Sam Smith was referring to an old interview with Ian McKellen that no openly gay actor has won the Oscar. Sam Smith said on his speech, "If this is the case … even if it isn’t the case, I want to dedicate this to the LGBT community, all around the world.”

Nagulat ako when they cut that portion ng speech ni Sam Smith when I watched the replay of the Oscars. I was like, "teka, saan yung LGBT part ng speech nya na napanood ko kanina nung live?"
Dustin could have simply called out that he was the first to do it THEN supported Sam smith for doing the same. Same team lang naman sila why the fuss!!!

Yes, 1980's out na si Elton John. Stephen Sondheim is also openly gay won an Oscar in 1990 for the same category as Sam Smith. So, wrong ang speech ni Sam. There were openly gay Oscar winners before him.
