The Colombian man who was shown burning an effigy of Miss Universe Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach has taken down the video of the incident after fierce reaction from netizens.

The man who uses the name Noider Almanza Barraza apologized for offending the people of the Philippines and blamed a tradition in his country for the incident.

A translation of his post on Facebook said Colombia had a tradition of burning dolls of “characters or things that causes controversy” in the previous year to “begin a new year.”

“At no time (was my intention) to hurt or offend (the people of the Philippines. I am very sad … I apologize,” he wrote.

  1. He should burn Miss Colombia's effigy instead for being so egoistic. Haha!

    3. If it is true that it's just an annual Latino tradition (that is not necessarily offensive), why didn't they also burn Miss Colombia's effigy? Pero sige, nag-apologize na, ok na ko dyan.

    5. From what I know, year-
end tradition nila to burn effigies that may have caused them bad experiences or memories as a gesture to put the past behind so they can start fresh with the new year. I'm proud pinoy but if that's their tradition, i have to respect that. I felt bad but I wasn't offended especially now he has apologized. Most Colombians did the same and some even included a Steve Harvey effigy as well. Na-hurt talaga sila kasi they groom little girls to be beauty queens. Passionate sila when it comes to beauty pageants. Some Latin American countries even have schools for aspiring beauty queens. Word of the mouth (I just heard but can't confirm) na beauty queens are even protected by cartels. Yun lang naman, just my 2 cents.

  3. I think the pings of new berating messages, or reactions, minute by minute and hour after hour had done the trick. Next time, don't incite people. Moreso when you're the one I. The wrong. Did you need to be called uneducated or lacking in good graces by thousands before you finally got your senses back? Your tradition of burning effigies are alright, but not the images or models you used. Anyway, good that you at least learned your lesson.

  7. Um, piano did not cause the controversy - in fact she is a victim as well of the fiasco. There is no acceptable excuse. But I hope the apology is sincere.
