Singer and movie actress-turned-civic leader Cielito “Mahal” del Mundo died of heart attack Jan. 9 in Phoenix, Arizona where she’d been based for many years. She was 80.
Del Mundo was known for her humanitarian endeavors which had many calling her the “Bob Hope of the Philippines.” She co-hosted the public service program “Kapwa Ko, Mahal Ko” with former senator Orly Mercado.
Bulletin Entertainment’s “Celebrity World” column had reported that del Mundo was in a coma in a hospital following a massive stroke. One of her daughters, Marisoc Nueno, said del Mundo also had brain tumor.
Among del Mundo’s movies were “The Musical Giant,” Langit Pa Rin Kita” and “Mula Nang Kita’y Ibigin.”
