Just Not Lucky

Showbiz practices are not spared from superstitious beliefs that range from prohibiting the eating of watermelon seeds on the set to starting the shooting based on a date recommended by a feng shui expert. Worse, some people are believed to be bringing bad luck on projects they are associated with.

When a network plans its projects, the production covers all bases to assure the success of the project. From writers to directors, the network will only choose the best from its pool. Given the rich roster of its actors and actresses, the network will strive to combine the seasoned and tested performers and the young ones. The former assures that loyal fans will follow the new project and the latter is sure to generate excitement. Thus, with production in the works, expectations from the management are high whenever a huge project is launched.

Given all the elements of a sure hit, namely, seasoned and star-studded cast, excellent writers and directors, and intriguing plot, the network was flustered when their expectations in the ratings game fell flat. This Project (TP) was performing below par compared with other projects of the network. What the network could not understand is why TP could not get soaring ratings at its timeslot. When the network started promoting TP, the reunion of a loveteam was much anticipated. Although they never ended up together, their chemistry brings sweetness on air, which assured that viewers are interested in the said loveteam.

After much thought, superstitious beliefs took over and some pinpointed the presence of a Network Talent (NT) as the unlucky element in TP. Based on her track record, NT has yet to score a major hit in recent years. When NT was launched in her own teleserye, her name became synonymous with intrigues, and her teleserye only lasted a season. Unlike other talents who were only as good as their last project, NT is different at she continued to be included in projects even though netizens have pointed out her low acting level.

When TP was failing to generate the ratings, the network planned to kill off the character of NT, but changes had to be implemented. Hence, instead of killing of just one character, the decision was to end TP, as its production costs were getting higher. However, there was a warning that any future project involving NT was to go through executives first before making a final decision of her inclusion. As to the question of why NT seems to have staying power, rumors have it that she has a very powerful backer, whom the executives will never be able to topple.
