I am a Muslim and I do not find anything wrong with what they wore. While for a Muslim, properly wearing a thawb (long robe) actually has religious significance, it is fine if a non-Muslim wears them. In fact, we Muslims should be happy about this, as many who try it, find it quite comfortable and practical, because it shows that Islam prefers practicality over being fashionable.
Now on the context of the thawb on the show. Let me point out that it was a costume-theme party, not a horror theme party. Many of them were wearing non horror-genre costumes like Julia as Pricess Leia (sci-fi), Jimmy as Hagrid (fantasy), Anjo sa The Hulk (sci-fi), and Ryan as a baby. Wearing a thawb was within the boundaries without being Islamophobic.
Maybe we should all start learning how to be sensitive to others as well. Just because the nuns, the soldiers, the Muslims, etc after not objecting to the use of their uniforms or apparels that distinctly identifies to them, that it's over acting to call the attention of these individuals who use them. To some people, using these garments have a deeper meaning and would naturally be offended by the lack of disregard for what they represent. Not because people from the US or other country do it, that it means ok. Respeto lang siguro. Tito sotto is held in high regards because he is a public official, and as such he should be more responsible, sensitive and inclusive.
Good job Tito Sen! Yung yak yak ng yak diyan ay yun pang walang karapatan mag blah blah. Pinoy yung nakalatay sa genetic strand ninyo. ReplyDeleteNow on the context of the thawb on the show. Let me point out that it was a costume-theme party, not a horror theme party. Many of them were wearing non horror-genre costumes like Julia as Pricess Leia (sci-fi), Jimmy as Hagrid (fantasy), Anjo sa The Hulk (sci-fi), and Ryan as a baby. Wearing a thawb was within the boundaries without being Islamophobic.

Maybe we should all start learning how to be sensitive to others as well. Just because the nuns, the soldiers, the Muslims, etc after not objecting to the use of their uniforms or apparels that distinctly identifies to them, that it's over acting to call the attention of these individuals who use them. To some people, using these garments have a deeper meaning and would naturally be offended by the lack of disregard for what they represent. Not because people from the US or other country do it, that it means ok. Respeto lang siguro. Tito sotto is held in high regards because he is a public official, and as such he should be more responsible, sensitive and inclusive.

Sana nakuha nyo ang reaction ng internet noon sa naging meme na "We're a Culture, Not a Costume" dahil totoo naman na everybody now is a cry baby. Before, I made effort to create and wore Spartan (300 reference), Cowboy (Brokeback Mountain), Indian (Slumdog Millionaire), Viking (well, just hat - Skyrim reference) pero I'm proud to wear those and not thinking about racism. Stop overthinking about costume as a statement of being a racist! Your race is not special, we are all equal!
