Better Stay Humble

The road to his career was not an easy one for Versatile Performer (VP). VP did not belong to a showbiz clan nor did he have any connections that could have paved his way into fame easily. Besides, he possessed talent, and looks was just secondary to what he could do.

After years of doing the same routine, VP was finally given his break when the producers noticed he had talent and appealed to the audience. Soon, he was given enough exposure that he left his former job for showbiz. Then, the programs came one after the other. The money started coming in, and so did women, and finally, the intrigues. Finally, VP was made, as he had experienced almost everything associated with a showbiz career.

Achieving fame from humble beginnings can result in either humility or hubris. In the case of VP, his success filled his head. While he has witnessed the rise and downfall of showbiz personalities, VP seems to have forgotten that better things come to those who wait.

One day, VP was called by the production to ask if everything was okay, as some noticed that he seemed to be indifferent in the past days. VP caught the production by surprise when he raised the issue that he wanted a raise in his talent fee asap. The production explained that at that point, his demand could not be met because the production was working on a budget. Hence, if they give in to his demand, other aspects of the show will be greatly affected. Further, only when the producer increases their budget will the demand of VP could be factored in. Instead of understanding, VP threatened that he will not show up if his demand will not be granted.

After sometime, the production could not give in to the demand of VP. Without any explanation, VP left without explanation. Thus, instead of dwelling on the absence of VP, the production focused on what they could do, which was to use their creativity to hide the absence of VP. The goal was for the audience to be entertained by other gimmicks and not to make the non-appearance of VP noticeable.

What puzzled the production are the impatience and arrogance of VP. His earlier requests were granted, but as far as a raise in pay is concerned, the decision will rely on top management. A request that could dent the budget could not be properly decided at the production level. Time is all that is needed, as the management could be generous to their talents who know and are aware of their rank in the roster. With talents emerging from various contests, a new discovery with better attitude might just replace VP if he continues with such materialistic attitude.
