Hi Fashion Pulis!
I would like to draw your readers’ attention to a food blogger’s (FB) penchant for copy-pasting. FB is a self proclaimed foodie, yet when it comes to writing about wines FB resorts to copying the winemaker’s notes verbatim, without crediting the sources.
To illustrate:
You can tell how weak FB's wine knowledge is with a simple slip-up like this:
There’s really no shame in admitting that FB does not have a good knowledge about wines, but FB should at least have the decency to admit this. Proper citation is a very basic rule of writing, and as someone who makes a living from writing, FB should know this full well and be more responsible about it.
FB's lifting isn’t limited to wine though. In a post about Vietnamese cuisine, I spotted these passages:
If you scour FB's blog you’ll find more snippets like these. It’s easy to tell which lines aren’t original because FB's real writing is different, so whenever a sentence is uncharacteristically well-composed, chances are FB simply copied it from somewhere, like a press kit provided by the establishment or company. There’s nothing wrong with referencing the press kit, but if FB is simply too lazy to paraphrase then FB should use quotation marks!
Plagiarism (whether borne of intent or ignorance) has always been something I strongly deplore, and I can't stand seeing someone gain so much popularity while passing off other people's writing as his/her own. Sadly, in our country intellectual theft isn’t taken seriously (hello Tito Sotto). I can only hope that this FB realizes the error of copy-pasting.
Thanks Fashion Pulis for helping bring this to light.
Yours truly,
Elle
Hahahaha! Dahil sa mga crispy bloggers like this!
ReplyDeleteHehehehehehe.....
ReplyDeleteAFFECTED ka much ha! ang dami mong time!
DeleteUnfollow mo nalang teh!
Sana yung iba umamin din na nakikopya din ng concept or kahit sabihin nlng na naging "inspiration" kasi namin din yung accidental love team so we made this concept to compete and bring you down again in your usual levels! Bwahhhhhahahahahahahhaha!!!
ReplyDeleteNakakloka talaga ang plagiarism may isa akong kilalang super proud na galing sa top university he's working in a BPO ang kapal ng fez lahat ng postings niya sa FB wall nya and twitter copy paste pa intelehente ang bakla ang mga walang alam naman nyang friends panay puri sa kanya kasi npaka witty daw jusko sarap sampalin! Sana mabasa nya to ng mahimasmasan di ba Jopay?
DeleteAh this food blogger! Much has been said about him. Envelope journalism - what would be it's equivalent in food blogging? That would be him. So plagiarist din pala sya,
Move on na teh!
Ang difference lang si letter sender was reacting and lamenting a wrong. Ikaw, nega lang.
DeleteIkaw ang oa sa reaction mo. The issue here is about intellectual integrity.
Papansin masyado!
Delete@12:24.
DeleteYung totoo 2:09??? Get a life!!!
Lol!
DeleteProblem is, we take intellectual property lightly. What if it happened to you? Wouldn't you feel mad somebody took credit for the effort and ideas you came up?
Delete2:39 Tell that to yourself! Hahaha
Delete2:45 Not all people give a big fuzz about it. If you ask me, i don't mind kasi yung nag copy and paste naman sa akin ang mag mumukang shunga. You guys misunderstood my point.
Delete2:39 I have a life and im loving it! lol
Delete4:18 dapat hiramin mo linya ng pabebe girls. Wala kayong pake.
LOL
Delete@3:57 korek! lol @6:18 No need na mag hawakan ng tenga, over na yun lol Ok na yang asaran.
DeleteYun oh!
ReplyDeleteWhat an "awesome" food blogger
ReplyDeleteOhhh.... Will go check.
DeleteBawal ba i-name ang food blogger? Why?
ReplyDeleteMost of the time, those who want their products (wine or food), restaurants, and the likes to be promoted distribute sales kits or promotional kits to media people including bloggers. Either they request to have it published, printed or showcased as is or sometimes they ask media people to write something from it. So sometimes it appears that they just get from others when actually the same kits were sent to different people for promotion. So yung ibang media people naunang ilabas ang article nila kaysa sa iba na late nag-upload. So magmumukhang komopya sila. :-)
ReplyDeleteI agree! I am a blogger myself and I am often sent a "press kit" whose contents I have to somehow insert into the blogpost. Contents of the press kit are often also on the product website and other marketing materials. Other bloggers are also sent this same press kit. We are not sued for plagiarizing because it's exactly what the companies want us to write about. And yes, no need for citation.
DeleteMga ate, di ba Tasting Notes ang sabi? Kung tasting notes yon, dapat sarili niyang notes or comments ang nilagay niya don! Ano yon? Wala siyang maisip sabihin na impression about the wine nung tinikman niya kaya kumopya na lang siya? Okay lang sa inyo yon???
Deleteher aspirations is to be a respected food writer and hopes that her journey will inspire at least one soul to strive hard and be the best that he/she can be
ReplyDelete-credits to her blog
mag-10 years na yung blog niya. how shameless of her to credit herself as one of the Pioneering blogs in the phils yet she relies on plagiarism.
ReplyDeleteShe? Baka he.
DeleteBakit 'her'? Male blogger Ito deba ?
mag-10 years na yung blog niya. how shameless of him to credit himself as one of the Pioneering blogs in the phils yet he relies on plagiarism.
ReplyDeleteHaha naku ateng asang mundo kaba ngayon.
DeleteWahaha! Bakit saan ba mundo mo? Puro honest ba taong nasa mundo mo?? Tiga saan ka ba sa mars? Kaloka hirit mo!
DeleteI used to read his blog but stopped na ever since that issue with the Big Bad Blogger came out. Feeling ko sya kasi yon. Parang tuloy whoever pays him and treats him like royalty gets a favorable article. Pera pera na lang.
ReplyDeleteawesome talaga!
ReplyDeleteI heard fb also features restos only if they pay. Aside from the free food of course
Pweh!
ReplyDeleteSeriously A? Copy paste?
ReplyDeleteNever liked fb's blog anyways. Mas gusto ko pa si chinita bloger
ReplyDeleteFB - A
ReplyDeleteIs this real? I thought he was that of a good blogger, kasi nagbabasa ako ng blog niya. And he looks legit. Well, looks can be deceiving nga naman. Lesson learned: maging mapag-masid.
He's getting paid for that, so bakit hindi na lang nya karirin pag aralan tlaga yung taste?
Very pinoy pa ang tastebuds. Not saying na bad yun pero wala syang alam how other culture/countries food should taste.
ReplyDeleteDon't you know that some newspapers print press releases verbatim? Don't you know that some news stories in business, politics, are fed to the press, and they are run word by word?
Maging fair naman kayo. All writers refer to a press release for notes, names of dishes, etc. Baka din yung source.
I am not a fan of FB,who now uses other writers to produce the blog. Halata sa style.
But let's not be clueless. Many writers in media use press releases like everyone else. The PR agency would certainly not mind if you use theirs verbatim.
Elle should clarify kung totally original written text yung ginaya, kasi mamaya nga, pareho silang HUMIRAM.
He gets paid 50k per blog/food review.
Pag nagsalita, mali mali mag ingles so alam na. Kaya, ingat kayo address at contact number lang siguro yung katotohanan dyan. Bwahahaha,
