In what aspect was it "overrated"? The cinematography was okay, the castings were good, the details were on point(historians approved-- aside from some fictitious part) and the visuals effects were awesome by Philippine standards.
i get your point 1:05, madaming reviews na nagsasabing "perfect" and "best filipino movie" ang heneral luna but i don't think so. one scene i didn't like is the battle at guagua, medyo comical yung dating at parang walang sense of danger.
3:23 - 1:05's opinion is just different from the popular opinion pero that does not mean na t sha. At hindi porke nanood ka ng Hen Luna, matalino ka. Hindi din ibig sabihin, makabayan ka. Huwag masyado makitid ang utak. Magpaka mature. Agree to disagree. 1:05 - agree. It's okay pero not worth the hype.
Love the sketch. The film's message is highly commendable, same thing goes with John Arcilla's sterling performance as Luna, but production value-wise halatang kulang sa budget ang movie. Compared to Marilou Diaz Abaya's Jose Rizal, Heneral Luna has a slightly better script (as it was given more leeway to become more imaginative as the film's opening disclaimer said that it was based on combination of facts and fiction, compared to Jose Rizal's script which faithfully relied on factual research). However, Abaya's Jose Rizal's production value was ten folds better than Heneral Luna. In summary, albeit its 3-hours running time I would still pick Marilou Diaz Abaya's Jose Rizal as the better film, if not the best Filipino film of all time.

Yung nagcomment na overrated ang heneral luna walang alam sa paggawa ng pelikula. Kung hindi pa yun maganda para sayo eh di wala ng magandang pelikulang nagawa ever!!
