Root cause is the company wants to maximize their profit by marketing and selling anything through these popular stars even at the expense of the craft and eventually the OPM industry as we see it now. The public buys not because of the singing but because they want to support their idols at masa bing Siikat at versatile ang idol nila.

It just so happens that these legit singers are not adapting to what is IN at the moment - slickly produced (or overproduced) music, think kpop. Hindi na nagbago ang style nila, puro ballads or revival ng classic ballads. Even Cher used autotune sa mga recent albums niya, at iniba niya ang style niya, kaya naghit. These legit singers shouldn't blame autotune or the consumers for their dwindling sales. Instead, they should experiment with different styles, genres, and technology, autotune included.
I appreciate KPop artists like EXO primarily because of the techniques and digital instruments employed. They may not have the best vocals pero hanep ang arrangements, dance routines, and music videos. Look for their songs OVERDOSE, HISTORY, WOLF, and GROWL. Hanep. I also patronize Hale, MYMP, and Bamboo before.
Sa KPOP naman, you see na nag eeffort talaga sila. They rehearse, live together para magkabond ang group and show their fans that they try really really hard. Kaya kahit d gaano maganda vocals, kahit d mo magets pinagsasabi nila, support parin.

Anon 708 actually, 3.5years ang average but training can take a year to 7 years depending on the trainees' raw talent and targeted market, genre & trends. HOWEVER, they have so much respect for their KPop industry. That's why they work so hard prior to debut. Talent and musicality mean so much to them on top of looks. They do not welcome mediocrity as their biggest agencies claim it (SM, YG & JYP). Their actors & actresses who can sing participate in musicals and sing on-screen. BUT, they do not do album releases as they respect that it's the KPop artists' core and forte. I think its delikadesa in Filipino. And respect for the art and the people who deserve. They also put budgets for indie artists. And they do hard core musical experiments. From this, we can say by comparison na relatively tamad and industry natin because producers do it the easier way by taking advantage of big stars' bankability and reach via different platforms. Medyo type ko ang EXO despite their SLIGHT autotune and expensive albums. They don't sing live lagi because of screaming fans and intensive dance routines. But when they do, they really sound good in variety shows. I used to buy albums of Hale and MYMP, kumpleto pa. One thing I noticed, Korea knows how to promote their singers via variety shows. Psychologically kasi, the appearances of their singers on variety shows allow you to understand them kahit konti. That's the reason why PBB is used as medium for entry to local showbiz. Variety shows creates more following. I don't think mall shows are enough to promote albums. That's why, mas bankable ang non-singer artistas because of their frequent/huge exposure via various platforms.

We just have to move forward and accept that this is not an ideal world. I do not hate legit singers. As a matter of fact, I'm a big fan of Sarah G. I agree with you. I patronize KPop but tbh, majority of them can sing live and so close to their autotuned releases. What amazes me is that beyond pretty faces and fantastic MVs, majority of their artists plays different instruments and speaks different languages. You can really understand how hard they work before debut. Their industry is very experimental as well.

ReplyDeleteTell that to the multi-million dollar KPop industry and other hollywood artists like Kesha and Ellie Goulding. Also to DJs and Mixers like David Guetta. Why don't we just have to accept the fact that people's taste in everything, including music, could change? If music doesn't revolve, we might as well still be listening to Beethoven's music. Enough of this. There's an era for everything.
ReplyDeleteWe just have to move forward and accept that this is not an ideal world. I do not hate legit singers. As a matter of fact, I'm a big fan of Sarah G. Do not tell me that I'm only having this opinion because my idol is still selling well despite the competition. And no, I wasn't bragging. I was only stating a fact. All I'm saying is, if Sarah, who can sing live, can produce an album that can meet the taste of today's generation, why can't the other singers? Why can't they get out of their comfort zone? Why can't they produce upbeat music which is today's current trend.
You cannot expect people to meet your standards all the time. Actually, as public entertainers, you have to be ,ore public pleasers. It's the nature of your job. And it is also just natural for us, public, to support what is popular. A pity, I know. But what can you do? An endless rant won't kill the mangrove old system of show business.
I agree with you. I patronize KPop but tbh, majority of them can sing live and so close to their autotuned releases. What amazes me is that beyond pretty faces and fantastic MVs, majority of their artists plays different instruments and speaks different languages. You can really understand how hard they work before debut. Their industry is very experimental as well.

ReplyDeleteI bought the album because of the mere reason na I'm entertained by the artist and I enjoy their music. Kanya kanya pong kaligayahan yan. Yung mag magagaling wag na magmagaling. Ganyan po talaga ang life. Kahit mega talent ka pag wala kang charisma mas aangat talaga yung less of a singer than you.
ReplyDeleteSana din kasi kung magaling kumanta eh may iba ding paandar like magaling sumayaw, nakakatawa, may hatak ang personality od i kaya gwapo o maganda. yun lang yun. Look at SG, Julie Anne, Gary V and Yeng. Ang magrreact lang talaga yung singer na boring at wala ng ibang kayang ibigay sa audience.

ReplyDeleteEto din kasi....most legit singers were given songs to sing that will showcase their singing prowess, their strong vouces BUT those songs are so hard to listen. Get the trend kasi. Take Boom Clap, Flashlight, etc.

ReplyDeleteKe autotune o hindi, basta magandang pakinggan yung kanta at nakapagpapasaya ng maraming tao, yun ang mas importante...Bumawi na lang yung mga 'real' singers sa mga awards. O gumawa sila ng kanta na mas tatangkilikin ng masa.

Ang sa tingin kong malaking problema ay sa mga mismong 'singers' na to. Sasali sa mga singing contests tapos pagnanalo mag e-expect agad na tatangkilikin ng mga tao ang mga albums nila na ang laman ay 10 out of 12 songs ay revivals? Isang original song pero sa isang taon 3 artists ang may kanya kanyang version na ilalabas nila? Ano kami, engot? Bakit ko bibilhin yan? Bakit ako makikinik sa isang song ng paulit ulit na nirerelease na may konting pinagkaiba lang sa original?
Yung mga comments ng iba sobrang babaw. Ang punto eh pag ganyan ng ganyan, aba eh lahat na lang ng artista na me mga T....GA na fans na tagabili ng basura, eh babagsak ang music industry. Free for all ika nga. Matira ang matapang ang apog. Wala bang regulations sa music industry gaya ng MTCRB na regulate ang movie & TV. Yung OPM ni Ogie, ano ang papel. Basta lang kantahan walang quality control. Kawawa ang legit singers na nilalangaw gayong magagaling naman sila. Kung ganyan ng ganyan eh mag karaoke na lang lahat at yung nakakasuya bahala na publiko kung ano ang gusto nilang gawin. Walang control eh, sige sige lang.

ReplyDeletecurious din talaga ako malaman kung lahat ba ng mga gold at platinum awards na pinagbibigay sa mga celebrities na yan eh legit din ba talaga? kasi lagi ako nanunuod ng sunday variety show kung saan duon madalas pino-promote o nilo-launch ang kung anuman ang pinagkakaabalahan ng artista. pero kagulat-gulat ang mga nagpa-platinum o gold awardees na hindi man lang umalingasngas ang album, una sa nasabing show, at sa iba pang platforms gaya ng spotify, itunes, youtube, pati sa MYX at maging sa radyo. di kaya style lang din yun para dun palang umingay ang album? tapos yung pumakyaw ng album, ipamimigay lang din yan sa mga tours o caravan, sa trade events o kaya sa mga listeners.
at batid ko yung ibang artista sumusunod lang din yan sa gusto ng network at ng talent management nila kasi syempre pera-pera naman din lahat yan. pag bumenta may bonus na nga, nasusundan pa ang album. :)
