  1. Grades aren’t everything. But they don’t mean nothing. Congratulations Tiffy. You may have gotten some measure of fame because of your stellar performance in college, and in UP no less. The work has barely begun, and you have a long way to go. Stay grounded and focus on the work of nation-building. Enjoy the journey to becoming a doctor soon. May you and every Isko and Iska (including me) worth his and her salt truly serve the people. *taas kamao* -currently R&D Scientist for Asia Pacific

It proves na walang imposible.

    2. Exactly my thoughts! I can't believe there's a prof in UP who thinks this way. Why can't we just be happy for Tiffany and do away with crab mentality. BS Biology is a tough major - I used to be a BS Bio student but I shifted to another major. I couldn't imagine having that GPA and I'm really proud of Tiffany.

    3. Tama si prof. I agree with him. I've met people from here and abroad na matataas ang grades straight As lagi sa school but not really 'intelligent' and fail in real life.

If you want substantial discourse sa iba ka pumunta.

  3. Ganyan naman talaga sa UP eh... Sobrang politika.

    1. @1:13AM: I agree with you. Ganyan ang karamihan ng profs dyan sa UP Diliman dahil ako mismo ay na-experience ko yan to the point na hinarang ng isang prof na insecure ang scholarship ko abroad to the point na tinawagan niya yung scholarship committee and she really exerted effort to pull strings para lang di maibigay saoin ang scholarship and nagtagumpay siya on that part. Well, I went on with my life and I am in better situation now dahil hindi ako kasing poor ng prof na yun now. Kanya na ang scholarship grant, at least sa age kong ito ma laking bata sa kanya, earning a 6-digit monthly is so far sa kanyang poor pay check now.

    3. Blessing in disguise din pla na hindi naging prof ni tiffany ang bitter ocampong ito... while grades are not everything, you cannot discount the fact na importante yan, lalo na sa isang institution na dapat lugar ng katalinuhan pero ngayon ay puro aktibista nalang yata ang niluluwa... with tiffany's achievement, kahit papaano ay hindi mo panghihinayangan ang taxes mo na napunta sa education... may mga iska at isko pa palang seryoso sa pag-aaral at hindi puro yabang lang ang alam...

  4. I can't believe these people (Lanuza and supporters) are from UP!

    2. Same here. Tiffany worked hard for her GPA, so let's give credit where credit is due. If I were a student in UP, I wouldn't register for this Prof's classes. He spouts a load of insecurities and bitterness.

      Delete
  7. Prof Lanuza, what's wrong with a student dedicated with academics? In UP you can be a nerd, a conio, or an activist. Whatever floats your boat. And if she was never absent from classes, what's the big deal with that? At least she really got her money's worth. Besides, she got the weekends to do other things, unless rallying and protests are the only other activities a student can do for you. You're quite bigoted too, given that Tiffany had done Biology, so other than her GE subjects, which she had probably finished by her freshman and sophomore years, why would she pick a fight and debate with her other profs when they are dealing with life science? There's no comparison between say, Botany to Pol Sci 11.

  8. I read that UP is for Filipino only, OK, who is pure Filipino? only the aetas, those with Spanish, malay sounding surname, you are all mix blood. You are mix with malay, Chinese, Spanish, etc.

    ReplyDelete

    1. That's not true, only 3 or 4% of the whole Filipino population have Spanish ancestry. Those Spanish-sounding surnames were given in the 19th century to Filipinos to streamline the tax system.

There are more street smart people who became successful that the book smart people. And to add, i have a friend who is a personnel manager said that most of the smart UP applicants failed in the EQ exams

  11. The poor girl doesn't deserve all this hate. The haughty professor only showed how he gives grades to his students. What an idiot. Same goes for the people questioning her lineage. Why can't we all be happy for one person's achievements?

    ReplyDelete
Gusto nyo magdoctor to serve her country, masama pa ba yun? Kung gusto ng ibang student magrally at magdebate eh di go. At ang pagiging pinoy wala sa apelyido. Nasa puso yan. Kaya congrats sayo Grace!!

  13. What's wrong with this UP Professor named Gerardo Languza Inggit?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Exactly! The fact that Tiffany's hard work paid off is a good thing. There is merit in working/studying hard. She takes her schooling seriously and she refuses to waste her parent's money. Lanuza you should stop teaching if good grades and hard work do not matter to you. Teach people how to cheat and steal instead. Sour graping creep.

      Delete
  14. Mr. Lanuza, I'm confused now of your reasoning and judgement. You're a disgrace sa UP. I won't be surprised kung maghahanap k ng ibang pagtuturuan in the future.

    ReplyDelete
Ekis sya don.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Crab mentality. Ganyan tayong Pinoy eh. Instead of appreciating, icriticize pa.

    ReplyDelete
  17. kung nakuha ni Tiffany yung mga grades na yan na walang daya e manahimik na yung mga hater. to be that consistent in getting those grades just means she is smart, intelligent and at the same time blessed kasi she can be the smartest pero not enough yun to be that consistent. God has a lot to do with it. on the other hand, the whole achievement does not mean na happy ever after na ang sunod. kaya wala talaga dapat ika inggit. kanya kanya tayo ng landas. sa tingin ko kung alam lang ni Tiffany na may ganitong ka negahan associated to her achievement, i think she would opt to be less successful.

    ReplyDelete

Kalurkey.

  20. bakit mas madaming mayaman sa UP

    ReplyDelete
  21. It's true that grades aren't everything but what's important are the values behind how she got those grades. Time management, prioritization, and HARD WORK. People, just be happy for the girl and be inspires of her achievement. She's living proof to all the lazy youth out there that you can have a life but still excel in school. Yea, grades arent everything but if she continues with those values and attitude SHE will succeed in her life. I can't say the same for all the bitter people there. Wala ba kayong ibang ulam kungdi ampalaya?

  22. Ibang klase ka, Lanuza! UP Prof ka pala, bakit ang shallow and bitter mo? What a disgrace to the institution! Itapon na yan!!

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  25. Hindi ibig sabihin mataas grades niya eh yun lang ginawa nya for her whole academic career. I dont personally know Tiffany's story, but I think she joined orgs and/or leadership activities. Because the way I see it, having big grades means the person is discipline and responsible, not just smart. Mahirap kaya i-maintain yan.

    ReplyDelete
Filipino/half/or not, so what?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Haaaayyyy.... Nakakalungkot!

If it's easy to get an almost perfect grade, bakit hindi lahat nakakuha nito? If walang masabing matino, quiet nalang please because ikaw, mr lanuza, ang nagpapahiya sa sarili mo.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Siguro kung sa Harvard o ibang Ivy League schools nagtapos si Tiffany super claim na tayo na Pinoy sya at buong yabang na ipagmamalaki sa buong mundo and nobody will question her ethnicity.

    ReplyDelete
  29. inggit aya si kumareng Gerardo kay Tiffany, beauty and brains kasi e. i don't get it. why would the hell in the first place give tiffany a high mark and "1" for that matter if he thinks that Tiffany doesn't really deserve it or isn't that intelligent? hindi ganun kadali makakiha ng "1" sa UP noh. ay ewan. kawawa naman yung bata.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Prof. Lanuza alongside the rest of UP professors detesting the achievement of Tiffany Uy -- granted, hindi kahulugan na matalino ang isang tao komo't naka-flat none, but you in academe sector must have appreciated the effort exerted by a student. You guys could have appreciated her attitude towards her studies, because what she has been doing may also prevail once she steps onto corporate world, and WALANG SILBI ang TALINO kung PULPOL naman sa attitude and commitment. Kahit mentally gifted ka man -- yung tipong walang ka-effort-effort umachieve ng 1.0 -- uuwi ka ring 'strikesoil' kung wala kang attitude and commitment.

Grace deserved her final grade because she is smart, intelligent, dedicated, committed.

  47. Maybe it is just the way the message was sent but there is truth to what the guy said. Tiffany was able to fulfill whatever her teachers are asking. Unfortunately, that is the only gauge they can use. Think of it this way, for those who have taken some kind of bar or board exams. Those who topped just means they reviewed the questions that were asked so they know the answer. Marami dyan na bumagsak sa board. That does not mean mahina utak nila. Pwedeng matalino din sila. 54. Reading Mr. Lanuza's comments, I realized the plight of our public school students. I was lucky to be sent to a private school. However, I feel that students from lower income bracket families don't deserve to be bullied by those people who were entrusted to their care. No wonder may mga taong "asal kalye" even if they graduated from college. The students were subjected to abuse that they think that abusive behavior is the norm.

Tiffany don't mind your bashers. Stand tall and proud. Just be thankful that God gave you a different path and you grew up without knowing the feeling of hatred and bitterness.

    ReplyDelete
You aren't seeing the point guys. It's not a personal attack on Tiffany but a challenge to every UP student. Our professors have instilled in us the idea that what differentiates a UP student from the rest is that we should have a conscious use of knowledge and self to serve the people. Service over glory. As one pursues knowledge, one should be aware why and for what it should be. It's a disservice to the students, to UP as an institution, and to the country if we only ever produce self-serving graduates.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Pwede nya sabihin yan in a more decent and professional manner.

    2. Agree!

      Delete
    3. Then in the same light that it's not Tiffany's fault for being driven

      Delete
    4. What part of 'not a personal attack on Tiffany' did you not understand? Many students have failed themselves, UP and the Filipino people because they were more interested in getting good grades. It just so happens that she's the embodiment of the dreams of the kind of UP students I was speaking of.

  57. Teacher lanuza cguro dapat attend k ng class for good behaviour and right conduct. And UP should be as higpit with screening their professors kcng higpit ng entrance exam sa pgpasok sa UP. Nakakahiya kng me ganyang mentalidad na ngtuturo sa UP. Imagine the wisdom he would pass his students!!!

  59. Ang daming insecure! Grabe! Crab mentality to the highest level! I have a highschool classmate na graduate ng UP and he has been posting recently na sana siya dapat ang nandun, na ganito lamg ang lamang ni topnatcher sa knya etc.... So with this post of FP, i conclude na insecure etong mga taga UP at ayaw nilang may manlalamang sa kanila. Tsk tsk

  62. To Lanuza, you're supposed to be an educator and not a basher! Would you rather have somebody who's always tardy or absent in his/her classes because he/she is always present in every picket lines or protests than this girl who did her best and focused herself in her studies? Isn't it the reason why all of us go or went to school? That's why it's called a SCHOOL,to learn, to study, and not to be a part of chaos that an educator like you teach them. So, you mean to tell me that , a Filipino can't be a Cum Laude in different countries just because they weren't born there? in other countries, i.e here in the US, they give scholarships to everyone even if they're not a citizen. Epal!

  64. Sir gerry did not single out Tiffy in his first post. It's a general reminder to all students who merely work to get high grades and not really understand what they're studying and what for.

  65. Eh sinong magaling Prof Lanuza?

    2. Yes but do you have an idea how much it cost per unit in other schools? Subsidized naming mga taxpayers pa din yung tuition Ng taga UP

  67. Prof Lanuza's comment is a glaring and direct reflection of how he is as a professor and his views on his students. Hopefully, not too many students will enroll in his class after this.

    1. Oo, prof sa UP si Sir Gerry. Naging teacher ko siya sa SocSci1. Magaling siya but iba talaga trip niya. He's not someone to mince words about anything. I don't think he's belittling the achievement of Tiffani; gusto lang niya ipointout na ang high grades in school does not necessarily equates intelligence. Kasi sa UP halos lahat naman talaga matalino kaya lang ung iba tamad magaral kaya mga 2.5 to tres ang final grade. Eto kasi talaga si Sir napakasarcastic ever tsaka iba siya mag isip compared to the majority pero I don't think inggit siya kay Tiffani. And for the record nagbibigay ng uno si Sir Gerry. (Not me though. 1.5 binigay niya sakin. Hehe)

  71. Gerardo Lanuza is insecure of Tiffany's achievements, and definitely an ahole. Instead of issuing condescending and non-sense statements, we should admire individuals who do their best, and their commitment to excel. From: An IT Manager from the U.S Big 3 Companies o
