A Filipino who allegedly made anti-Singaporean comments on Facebook has been charged with sedition and giving false information during police investigations.

Ed Mundsel Bello Ello faces two charges under the Sedition Act and three charges of providing false information to a public servant.

Under the Sedition Act, the comments posted by the 28-year-old had the "tendency to promote feelings of ill-will and hostility” between Singaporeans and Filipinos.

On 4 January, Ello allegedly lied to the police, saying he did not post the comments on Facebook, and that his account had been compromised.

In January, Ello was also sacked by Tan Tock Seng Hospital where he was employed as a nurse.

If convicted, Ello faces a fine of up to $5,000 and/or a jail term of up to three years on each sedition charge.

For providing false information to the police, he could face a jail term of up to one year and/or a fine of up to $5,000 on each charge.

  6. I've been working closely with singaporeans for over a year now, and the more i get to know them and their culture, the more proud and happy i am to be a filipino. Sure they're a 1st world country. But imagine this -- their country is no bigger than quezon city so if u wanna go on a vacation, there's practically nowhere to go. They don't have natural resources like the mayon volcano or underground river etc to marvel at. Their small country also makes them so closeminded, their thinking is very limited. they're on the list of saddest nations, because they work n work n work. Even when they reach retirement age, govt will not support them so they need to keep working till they die. They are a very racist people and they actually have a law to make sure that 75% of the population must be of chinese race. Gays, by law, are also not allowed in their country. I can go on and on about how much i hate their country. And im so glad i can do that without fear of being jailed! Long live democracy and freedom!

    1. This is 1229 again. And before you all go hating on my post, let me just add that that bello ello guy was really wrong though because he posted that hate sentiment while living in singapore. Moral lesson to follow the rules in whatever territory you are in. Wala ka sa pinas dude. So sad for him, really. That's why i'm really glad i live in the philippines where i can exercise my right to free speech. Imagine if we had such a law like that in sg, for sure everyone commenting here would be put to jail.

    3. Over a year lang? My dear, 10 years na ako dito sa singapore. And the more na nakikita ko at nararanasang tumira sa iba pang sulok ng Mundo, Mas Lalo Kong na -appreciate ang batas nila dito. "Too much" democracy and "too many" individual rights, pero tingnan mo ang Pilipinas ngaun.

    7. One year ka lang as if you know Singapore well.Do you even know what are you talking about? Kayong mga klaseng tao ang hindi dapat pinalalabas sa Pilipinas. Panghila ng mga Pinoy na grateful sa biyaya ng Singapore.

Is there any nation who can do what Singapore does?Pity on us Filipinos kasi we have all but still in the slump.

    8. 12:29 Do you know that most Singaporeans are well-traveled hence they are exposed to diff cultures not to mention that there are 3 major races/ethnicity in this country: Chinese, Malay & Indian which has different culture from each other. Their government has set rules in order to have racial and even religious harmony for the good of its citizens. True, there are bad Singaporean but which country doesnt have bad citizens? Do you know that Singapore is one of the safest cities in the world? Their public transportation system is predictable and reliable? They may not have natural resources to brag about but hey, where are they now to compare to our country that has full of such resources and we are still in such a sorry state? Hate this country? Live in SIngapore pag may time so you know who is closeminded

    9. No matter where you are. Philippines man yan or kung saan man sa mundo. There's no point in saying bad things about other countries. May batas man o wala against that, let's just practice self restriction. There's really no point in saying bad things to others. So nasabi na nila ung masama sa ibang bansa? E ano naman after? Super babaw ng kaligayahan.

  7. Yikes! Basa basa din ng mga batas pag nasa ibang bansa.

  9. Aren't you glad you are not in their country? Yes i live in a poor country runby corrupt criminals, but at least i can freely criticize my government. No wonder singaporeans are one of the saddest countries on earth. They work like dogs and are muzzled like dogs. I completely understand the guy's hate sentiments towards singaporeans. Sana lang lumugar siya kasi he is in their territory.

    1. Yeah criticize PH govt all you want but the truth is wala naman nagagawa ang pag criticize mo dahil makakapal mukha sa govt.. Mas mahirap pa din tayo sa SG. Id rather be in a country where freedom of speech is limited but the government works hard to provide their citizen with a better life!

U just embarrassed all the Filipinos in Singapore. U just gave Singaporeans who hate us another reason to validate their hatred. Dhil sa post mong iyan, I'm sure may pinoy na napagiinitan dyan dhil pinoy sila at feeling ng iba ganun lahat mgisip ang mga pinoy. That's why I think if guilty sya, deserve nya yang punishment na yan!

I don't know but am giving him the benefit of the doubt, afterall he's innocent until proven guilty. Don't you think?
