ReplyDeleteMelissa said it herself. Her request was denied the first time. Yet she insisted on it. She may not have deserved the harsh language but she started the rude and inconsiderate behavior by taking some else's seat. If permission is not given, learn to accept it.
If she insists that this is a women's rights issue, then she should be the first to promote gender equality. No means no (regardless of the speaker's gender and how sweetly/respectfully one requests).
The next time you want to take photos of clouds, pay for your own window seat. Don't expect men to give up theirs. This convoluted sense of self-entitlement is what hinders us from achieving real gender equality. Women are capable of buying their own seats now. Empower yourself. Don't expect men to treat you differently just because you are female.

DeleteI did not defend the guy. I merely pointed out that this is not a women's rights issue. Stop trying to get empathy from us women because this is not a gender issue.
The harsh words were not warranted but the same is true for physical violence. The comment about the ban came after the assault on the guy. And the video clearly shows the captain/pilot saying "kasi sinasaktan mo na yung mga crew e." Remember that the crew included women.
If a guy used words like b1tch, $lut, wh0re to bully a woman then I could agree that the bullying/shaming is based on gender. But this is not the case.
So once and for all, please stop playing the gender card! This is not a gender issue. Any person who assaults a fellow passenger (regardless of gender, race, nationality or religion) deserves to be offloaded from the plane.
We should not tolerate and give excuses for any form of violence (both verbal and physical).
