Letter from a Reader: Did Fake Veterinarian Wrongly Administer a Dog's Vaccine?

Images courtesy of Fashion PULIS reader

Dear Fashion Pulis,

Good day! I am writing if I can share with your readers my horrible experience in this animal clinic. I feel it is my responsibility to let the public be aware of this veterinary clinic's malpractice. I am doing this not just for my dog who cannot walk properly anymore after being vaccinated there, but also for my fellow pet parents out there who are paying right but are not given the service that their pets deserve. Sharing my story would mean a lot.

May I give this warning to all: Be careful every time you bring your dogs to Fil-Chi Animal Clinic ( Benavidez Branch). Always make sure to ask first if the person attending to your dog is a licensed veterinarian and not just someone pretending to be one. My dog became a victim and cannot walk properly anymore after getting vaccinated there.

A month ago, I brought my 4-year old Chihuahua for her annual vaccination to  Fil-Chi Animal Clinic. My Chihuahua had two kinds of vaccination that day. One was given on her back and the other one was on her right foot. The "veterinarian" informed me that the injected area might get swollen for the next 3 to 4 days which I believe was normal. It happened in the past when dogs get better and back to normal several days after the vaccination.

Unfortunately in this case, my dog's foot did not heal. One week after the vaccination, I noticed how she could not walk properly and there were times she would fall when taking the stairs. When I checked her foot, I was surprised to see this swollen part on her right leg (almost the size of P25 coin).

I brought her back to the clinic the very next day. I asked the "vet" what went wrong. He told me not to worry and it was going to be fine. He said what happened was just an allergic reaction so I believed him. (Now I felt so stupid for believing him!) The "vet" prescribed medication for my dog to take daily, which I administered to her for a week. And so another week passed by and nothing had changed - my dog can't still walk normally.

For weeks, I could barely sleep, suddenly it got to me to verify this veterinarian if he was a licensed one or not. The next day, I called different agencies to verify and to my horror found out that the veterinarian is a fake! He used his girlfriend's license number to practice veterinary! (this I found out in his Facebook account. They are in a relationship for 10 years now.)

I went back to the clinic and talked to the owner about my concern, and he insisted that veterinarian assistants are authorized to practice as long as with supervision of a licensed veterinarian. In those times, there was no one licensed veterinarian who supervised this fake vet. This I could not accept. I called up PRC (Professional Regulation Commission) office and they said they are only allowed under a special permit ( like if it is used for special mission, etc.).

I had already submitted a formal complaint to Fil-Chi Animal Clinic last week but I have yet to get a reply from them. To the owner of Fil-Chi Animal Clinic, this I have to say: If you do not care for customer complaints like this, how much more will you care for animal's well-being that you are supposed to protect?

Thank you, Fashion Pulis for giving me a space in your blog.

Sincerely,
Cheska

    2. Pwede rin po sa legs. Pero I guess, it has something to do with the medicine used itself.

  3. So many complaints about veterinary clinics lately. They should be more careful they're dealing with people's beloved pets and can't be replaced.

    1. So baka licensed pala talaga yung "vet" tapos yung gf yung nakikigamit?

  5. Possible na may natamaang nerve when injected, o nagkaron ng infection after the vaccine. Was a fresh sterile needle used?

Can I ask why there are two vaccines for distemper sa four year old dog? Diba dapat booster na lang sa distemper?

    1. Not all AHs are good din. Yung ibang branch puro new vets. I got my dog groomed there one time, pag uwi nangangagat na ( mostly dahil pinalo or sinaktan sya) di na namin sya binalik dun

    2. Saang branch? Sa Jupiter sobrang okay. Sobrang thankful kami sa kanila for extending the life of our dog.

    4. 12:33 please AH Jupiter? They misdiagnosed my dogs Demodex mange. Result. Local case became generalized and my dog got serious infection sepsis and almost dies. I recommend Vets in Practice Mandaluyong. Fil- Chi in makati looks so dirty and they put some dogs on boxes instead of exam tables.

    1. Kumikita kasi ang mga vets every time they use a certain brand of vaccine. I repeat that in the USA and in Europe, dogs are vaccinated every 3 years only. Only rabies is recommended for a yearly vaccine. Please research on dog vaccines so you will be well-informed.

      Delete
    2. It's the other way around. In the US, rabies vaccine is administered every 3 years while DHLP, Bordatella, etc are yearly vaccines.

      Delete

      Delete
    4. 2:06 well, informed naman ako kasi tinanong ko mismo sa vet namin. how about you? are you a veterinarian ba?

two 5 or 6-in1 vaccines in just one month? kahit mismo vet namin nagulat nung sinabi ko yang case na yan.

makapag-"Please research on dog vaccines so you will be well-informed." ka dyan e wagas. fyi, 20years in practice na yung vet na pinagtanungan ko kaya wag ka masyado magmagaling dyan.

    2. fil- chi is not cheap some services are more expensive than animal house and vets in practice. They also have several branches. It is a legit clinic. How will you know that a legit place like that will present you with a fake vet? No it's the clinics responsibility. You obviously have no pet and view them as mere possessions or animals. Such contempt for pet owners huh?

  13. Cheska, please seek the help of PAWS. They will surely advice you on what to do. Most probably baka makasuhan ang clinic na yan!

IN THE USA and EUROPE, after the initial puppy vaccinations AND after the 1st year of vaccination, we should be vaccinating our dogs EVERY THREE YEARS.

VERY IMPORTANT INFO FOR ALL DOG OWNERS:

Avoid a combination vaccine (five-in-one-type vaccinations) that offers multiple vaccines in only one shot. Note: some veterinary clinics only carry this type of vaccine. We recommend that you look elsewhere for care.

Do not vaccinate your adult dog more frequently than every three years (unless local conditions suggest a heightened need for Lepto, Bordetella, or Lyme vaccines; these each last a year or less).

At a minimum, try to schedule the rabies vaccine for a different visit than the other vaccines, if your dog needs them. The rabies vaccine should be administered by itself at a later date, apart from the other three “core” vaccines (distemper, parvo-virus, and adenovirus), and in another part of the dog’s body.

PLEASE RESEARCH ON THE WEB ABOUT DOG VACCINES. YOU WILL LEARN A LOT OF INFO ON WHY ANNUAL VACCINES ARE DANGEROUS ESPECIALLY FOR SMALL DOGS!

    1. you know what, I'm a cat lover & pet owner, yah read it online some vaccines &its wounds are the culprit of cancers and shorter life of pets!

  14. OMG why was your 4 year old chihuahua given 2 annual vaccines at one month apart?! The dog should only be give ONE ANNUAL VACCINE. Your dog is 4 years old and she is an adult dog. Adult dogs only get ONE ANNUAL VACCINE. Kaya nga annual meaning once a year.

You have the right the sue the clinic! They will be doing the same thing to other adult dogs. My goodness, This is the first time I have encountered someone giving two annual shots at one month apart on an adult dog!

    Please contact PAWS asap!!

  15. Uh oh... that's our vet clinic, but different branch. They have many branches actually.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Bakit kayo pumapayag ng 8-in-1 vaccine. The more vaccines you give a dog at one time, the more potential for negative side effects.

Adult dogs usually need only 3 or 4 core vaccines which are:

    canine distemper
    adenovirus type 2
    parainfluenza
    parvo virus

The first vaccine contains these important core vaccines.
    ______

However, the second vaccine administered is not required but only optional!

You are just bombarding your dogs with unnecessary vaccines kaya nagkakaroon ng bad effects.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Actually, it's the vaccine that caused the damage, and not the veterinarian. Please do your research, vaccinations do more harm than good. Pati sa mga babies ninyo na akala nyo being a good parent bombard ng vaccines bec that's what docs and ads say, do your research.

    2. FYI vaccines don't cause harm, it save lives by preventing viruses such as measles, which if not treated could cause sclerosis panencephalitis. The vaccines given to your child is approved and recommended by WHO. Get your fact straight and not just from anti vaccine bimbo/former playboy model

  23. Marami na namatay na dogs sa filchi vet benavides branch, lots of horror stories try to google it. I agree with anon 12:38. The vaccine itself can be the cause of paralysis, there has been a lot of similar incident of paralysis vaccine induced reported in US

    1. 4 yrs old na so fur baby so dapat as a responsible pet parent e alam mo na once lang tinuturukan pag annual booster na lang.

    2. 4 years old nga ba? From the health record ni fur baby. Parang 2nd dose pa lang ng 5 in 1. In fact may due date for the 3rd shot.
