It ranks 119 countries based on the Consumer Price Index - which takes into account the cost of groceries, restaurant meals, transportation and utilities.
On a tour of Latin America? Try Bolivia, Ecuador and Peru - and be sure to avoid Venezuela. Heading to south-east Asia? Indonesia and the Philippines will provide the best value, followed by Vietnam and Thailand.
Budget visitors to Europe should stick to the countries in the east - such as the Czech Republic, Poland, Bulgaria and Romania - while those going to Africa will get much more for their money in Egypt, Algeria, Tunisia and Morocco than they will in Burundi, Gabon or the Congo.
And above all, don't go to Switzerland unless you've got very deep pockets - it's the most expensive country in the world, according to the study.

DeleteCHEAP COUNTRY IF YOU'RE FROM THE WEST THAT EARNS POUNDS, DOLLARS OR EUROS. Cheaper than Vietnam? What? The reason why companies are closing in th PH is because we could no longer agree with demand of wages by the people abd by those companies. Thus, companies move to Vietnam for they offer cheaper labor. We could no longer offer cheap labor because of the prices that goes up every year!

That's true! I am in the US and currently living in a higher cost of living area, pero higher din naman ng konti ang sahod so parang balance na rin. I was a CPA in the Phil before and worked as government accounted, and even though my salary grade is on the top I still could not find my living comfortable and I don't know why. It's not like I went beyond my means. The difference living and working in America is I can still manage to save and travel, the thing that I could not do while working in the Phil.

DeleteHappy and sad. Happy na I can stretch my dollar kapag umuuwi ako diyan. Pero sad kahit na low ang cost of living diyan, marami parin ang can't afford to buy even the most basic necessities.

DeleteIf you happen to live in the Urban of the Philippines. You would hardly disagree with this study. Especially in the capital Manila, It is cheaper but every move you make there's always a need of hundreds of your centavos.
ReplyDeleteMaybe. But the flights are too expensive so it won't boost tourism that much. It's a lot more expensive than other countries, even Japan (when calculated from the same location). The higher price is due to tax that goes into politican's pockets.

ReplyDeleteFor tourists mura po ang Singapore compared sa ibang 1st world countries. That's what I always hear from cab drivers. Ang mahal lang naman dito sa SG ay ang bahay.

true talaga ang sa New Zealand,grabeh super mahal dito kumikita ako ng 300+nzd a week pero kulang pa din pambayad sa lahat ng bills,,sarap sana umuwi at manatili sa pinas pero dahil walang ipon ito kayod marino pa rin sa nz.....
ReplyDeleteMura sa Pinas? Oo, makakapagmura nga ang ordinaryong mamamayang Pinoy sa pataas nang pataas na presyo ng mga bilihin, pamasahe, tuition fees, kuryente, tubig, at mumurahin mo talaga ang mga pulitikong magna na nagpapasasa sa pdaf at dap!

ReplyDeleteCheap is different from a low cost of living. I don't completely agree with this article but it clearly has a point of view of a foreigner and not a local. However, even if you're working abroad (say in the US for example with 2 or 3 jobs), yes you can really save a lot and pay your dues at the same time.. pero naman patang pata ka na sa pagod kakatrabaho. Here, you work-pay your fees- and then rest/have a vacation pag ginusto mo. At the end of the day, it all boils down on how responsible you are with your money, your time and even your health kahit saang bansa ka pa nakatira.
