Key Reason for the Swan Song

The trend for the teleserye lineup nowadays is the inclusion of a fantasy series prior to the telenovela with heavy drama. Thus, networks have to think of what new fare they can offer. On the one hand, one network made its work easier by purchasing the rights to the famous fictional heroes of Filipino comics. Hence, the network can focus on the right casting and the tweaking of the story to make the current generation relate with the plot.

On the other hand, another approach to the fastaserye is to develop an original storyline, which another network is doing. Though costlier in terms of preproduction, sometimes an original fantaserye can start a trend and amass ratings and followings. Regardless of the source of the story, the plot, and the cast, an integral element in the fantaserye is the use of computer graphics. The present viewers are very critical of special effects, and raise their disagreements once they are presented subpar quality. Thus, networks will invest as good computer graphics can mean more viewers and higher rating.

Meanwhile, teleseryes end abruptly if they have low ratings, lack advertisers, or have a troublesome casting. However, a fantaserye (AF) has another excuse. The reason for the soon cancellation was technical, that is, the company that does the computer graphics no longer wanted to continue with the project. A former company that the network used to hire for computer graphics services declined the offer to continue the work. Hence, the producers had no choice but to cancel the series as no company was interested.

It’s just too bad that AF will be cancelled. AF has an original story and features an interesting cast comprising of the young talents of the network as well as highly competent senior talents.
