An International Award-giving body IA for media gives its annual awards to distinguished and meritorious public service through various networks, organizations, and individuals. Any professional media practitioner aspires and dreams to be awarded with an IM, one of, if not the most coveted and prestigious award.

IA is a unique body, every award is special as it only gives a few compared to other award bodies. Its long history and selection process is broad. Excellence has to be defined on its own terms.

It is a no-brainer therefore that to be a recipient of IA puts one in an elite class, a cut above the rest, so to speak.

For this year, two local networks - N1 and N2 - submitted their entries for a category. It was for the coverage of the biggest catastrophe of unprecedented power to hit the country. Both N1 and N2’s entries were truly excellent and deserving of the award. However, N1’s coverage nailed it with more points as its coverage was broadcast more in international media.

Then something reportedly reversed what could have been.

One of the committee members happened to be a close associate of an influential and respectable international journalist whose credibility was put at risk by a local counterpart associated with N1. Reportedly, the episode became one big deciding factor why the award went to N2 instead.
