Batangas Gov. Vilma Santos won Best Actress for Jeffrey Jeturian’s “Ekstra” at the recently concluded 13th Dhaka International Film Festival, held in the capital city of Bangladesh from Jan. 10 to 18.

The Dhaka Tribune described Santos as “fabulous.” Santos told the Inquirer that she is ecstatic and that the award “is a great bonus.”

Producer Joji Alonso told the Inquirer that Santos bested 21 other nominees.

Levon Haftvan won Best Actor for the Iranian film “Parviz.” Iran’s Parviz Shahbazi won Best Director for “Trapped.”

No best film was chosen among the 23 entries.

The jury members included Iranian filmmaker Rasul Sadr Ameli, Liberation War Museum trustee Mofidul Haq and Busan film fest executive programmer Kim Ji-seok.

The award ceremony was held at the National Museum auditorium in Dhaka.

Santos earlier won Best Actress in the Directors’ Showcase section of the Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival for the same movie.

  10. Bested 21 other actresses? Sus! Kasi po, according to the jurors, hindi impressive ang line up this year. Kaya ang nangyari, lahat na lang ng entries, nominated ang lead actresses. Atty. Joji, wag masyadong exag. OK?
