    3. ANON 12:24 am, bukod sa hindi mo na nga alam ang blackface, ginawa mo pang engot ang mga tao by making them think that aetas color their skin to look dark (when in fact, they are dark skinned). Baka you were thinking of ati-atihan, which is a festival, not a race.

    3. I dont think this film means a lot on hating. If its true, meaning to say the convos and how vice delivered the lines on BAKLA and TOMBOY thing are all about racism. Ofcourse not! This is not just about kiray wearing black make up and no comparison with black face peeps at all.. Chill ate, definitely americans wont get butt hurt on this movie since the history of black face is in its own word.. history.

    4. blackface is racist and offensive.

    5. The thing is, it's not about Kiray's blackface on Girl Boy Bakla Tomboy, sa mga nakapanood na (include me) sa isang scene doon, may cnabi c Vice tungkol kay kiray, tungkol sa KULAY nia and cnabi nia na kahit ano man ang kulay ni Kiray ay mahal nia ito at maganda c Kiray, sabi ni Vice sa GBBT, kaya don't judge the movie by its trailer, watch the whole movie, after u watch, u can judge the movie.. Just chill lang Ate ah !

    ReplyDelete

    1. Tropic Thunder is a satire. An intelligently made one at that. It's target audience will get the joke, and view the blackface element to be a mockery of blackface. GBBT is trash, and it's target audience will think blackface per se is okay.

  13. The thing is, the ordinary, average Pinoy most likely doesn't have any idea what exactly blackface is and it's connotations. So mangyayari at nangyayari ang ganyan sa mga pelikula at TV show. I honestly didn't know doing blackface was racist until I saw the outrage that it gets online from people in the US and other places. What more yung average Pinoys who don't go the websites I go to and aren't exposed to such things? It may not have been purposefully done to offend, but the "ignorance" excuse can only last for how long. It's time to educate.

Kaya I dont think the american word "ignorance" applied to us, unless u guys work, study, raise there are butt hurt and doesnt want to be called by americans-- ignorant since you guys are embracing their culture, not in our territory. The movie is made in PH, for pinoys. and thankful for those americans who appreciated the movie instead. 9. Take the paella out of paella negra and it is the most horrendously offensive word. Likewise, take kiray's face out of context and you may as well damn 1240 to hell. But if you take it within context, it's mere pinoy humor. Nothing offensive to the minds of the common filipino. And i'm sure that's not the only thing that's "culturally offensive" in that film, if you take everything OUT of context.

  34. Pinoys are racist, that's a fact. Some may not want to admit it, but we are. We are most insensitive in using racial slurs, and yet we easily take offense when we're at the receiving end. Our country is not as diverse as Malaysia (Chinese, Malays and Indians), Singapore or even to most of the world, so we tend to make fun of the unfamiliar. I think media needs to start with educating the audience with racial sensitivity, as this film is definitely a regressive step towards that.

You are precisely what's wrong with this country.

  44. I am not in US or in Philippines but the lady is correct. Pinoys need to be educated with this "blackface". Next time, it's better to get actors who are really black.

  45. It is indeed a racial slur .... "Blackface is more than just burnt cork applied as makeup. It is a style of entertainment based on racist Black stereotypes that began in minstrel shows and continues today."

Babala : Copy-paste ko lang po yan....

  46. I think this issue runs deeper in our culture. Lets call spade a spade a majority of filipino's and filipina's find dark skin people inferior within the culture. The constant definition of beautiful people through tv and advertisement of light skinned individuals has made us feel inadequate within ourselves and therefore spend money on whitening cream and other products. When the actor and actresses are shade darker, they are portrait as maids, crony's, weak and other negative stereotypes. It is a colonial slave mentality that have been persistent with in the society, from the time of the revolution to modern day Philippines. I don't think the people here are racist, but have been ignorant of issues surrounding race. Lastly we must learn to love our own skin no matter how light or dark our skin is. In the words of Steve Biko "black is beautiful," in our way we must also say "brown is beautiful."

Does it really matter ? Maybe this will be another issue about Vice Ganda's jokes, but please, don't make this a big deal... Masaya ba cia ? Ang di cia ang nagsulat ng movie and no choice cia dahil d cia ang Director ! WATCH THE WHOLE MOVIE, BEFORE JUDGING IT ! Nakakahigh blood kau -_-

  51. EXACTLY! Last Halloween lang super na criticize si Julian Hough for attending a halloween party wearing a black face copying a character from "Orange is the new black" kasi it was a dark time for the African-American community and it is not something to make fun of.

  53. the character and how she was portrayed are "racist". There's no defense for it...Ignorance!!! The exaggeration of the skin complexion and hair is simply meant to make the audience laugh and ridicule black people(not adore them or accept them as is), dont you guys see it? The movie is throwing back Philippine media(and Pinoy mentality) to the ignorance of the past. This movie should be condemned.
