The fact na pag tiningnan mo yang face ni Kiray and naisip mong racist coz its black.. Can you think it again???
Anon 12:20. Punta ka sa Wikipedia at iresearch mo ang history ng blackface para naman may matutunan ka before the year ends. A lot of society's ills are due to ignorance.
ANON 12:24 am, bukod sa hindi mo na nga alam ang blackface, ginawa mo pang engot ang mga tao by making them think that aetas color their skin to look dark (when in fact, they are dark skinned). Baka you were thinking of ati-atihan, which is a festival, not a race.
Anon 12:24. My gosh, hindi masamang magresearch muna. Read on the history of blackface, and try to place yourself in the shoes of modern day Black Americans, then try to imagine how they would feel if they were to see this.
Yeah Right! Meron sila problem sa BlackFace sa AMERICA(and other parts of europe) dahil sa slavering ginawa nila against black, hindi dito or any other ASIAN countries. Stop shoving your beliefs in others.
There are far too many movies there who give racist remarks and they decide run after GBBT. And please understand the essence of comedy. KJ si teh.
Uh-huh. And Teri Hatcher's line on Desperate Housewives about Pinoy medical graduates was supposed to be a joke, and yet every Pinoy and his/her mom got all their undies in a bunch over it. Get over yourself.
Porke joke, kelangan okay lang kahit may racist undertones? Like what 12:17 am said, yung joke ni Teri Hatcher, it was supposed to be funny pero nagalit kayo diba? Kasi racist.
I dont think this film means a lot on hating. If its true, meaning to say the convos and how vice delivered the lines on BAKLA and TOMBOY thing are all about racism. Ofcourse not! This is not just about kiray wearing black make up and no comparison with black face peeps at all.. Chill ate, definitely americans wont get butt hurt on this movie since the history of black face is in its own word.. history.
The thing is, it's not about Kiray's blackface on Girl Boy Bakla Tomboy, sa mga nakapanood na (include me) sa isang scene doon, may cnabi c Vice tungkol kay kiray, tungkol sa KULAY nia and cnabi nia na kahit ano man ang kulay ni Kiray ay mahal nia ito at maganda c Kiray, sabi ni Vice sa GBBT, kaya don't judge the movie by its trailer, watch the whole movie, after u watch, u can judge the movie.. Just chill lang Ate ah !
Filipinos are big racist here in the states...
I think people should reserve judgement until they have actually seen the film.
Tropic Thunder is a satire. An intelligently made one at that. It's target audience will get the joke, and view the blackface element to be a mockery of blackface. GBBT is trash, and it's target audience will think blackface per se is okay.
I'm not saying it's a bad movie or it's not funny but intelligently crafted satire is more fitting with Coen brothers or Woody Allen body of works. Funny yes smart?
Anyone will get the humor of hollywood jungle war satire but it's far from a work of a genius. Iba kasi makakontra lang.
Why don't you call yourself the racist, ateng? Mega violent reaction agad, di pa nga napapanuod ung movie. There's a lesson behind the black girl, fyi.
agree with you, i saw a couple of wen deramas' movies onewas petrangkabayo, needless to say di ko tinapos, very irritating, the other one was tanging ina, i forgot if i like it or hate it
The thing is, the ordinary, average Pinoy most likely doesn't have any idea what exactly blackface is and it's connotations. So mangyayari at nangyayari ang ganyan sa mga pelikula at TV show. I honestly didn't know doing blackface was racist until I saw the outrage that it gets online from people in the US and other places. What more yung average Pinoys who don't go the websites I go to and aren't exposed to such things? It may not have been purposefully done to offend, but the "ignorance" excuse can only last for how long. It's time to educate.
ako nga nandito sa US for more than 10 years na hindi ko alam ang ibig sabihin ng blackface! wala akong pake. sa mga pinoy lang ako nakikihalubilo dito.
I also thought na wala ngang relevance yung character ni kiray dun. Sobrang corny pa nung movie. Well it is given naman na corny ang movie if directed by W. D.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with this picture. That's just pinoy humor, and that is part of our culture AND charm. The ability to laugh at everything, including the way we look, is what makes pinoys so unique and special. FYI girl, not every black joke is a slur against african americans. Hinde lang sila ang maiitim sa mundo!
Sorry December 31, 2013 at 1:01 AM and December 31, 2013 at 1:13 AM, December 31, 2013 at 1:40 AM Asians are diff from americans, we cannot educate people in a glimpse about the history you are pertaining to, asians are more aware of asian culture. Kaya I dont think the american word "ignorance" applied to us, unless u guys work, study, raise there are butt hurt and doesnt want to be called by americans-- ignorant since you guys are embracing their culture, not in our territory. The movie is made in PH, for pinoys. and thankful for those americans who appreciated the movie instead. Those pinoys attacking pinoys as well, oh well, pagtatawanan lang kau ng mga kano sa pagiging super talino nyo haha!
When it comes to color napaka sensitive talaga ng mga black people feeling nila lagi ay racist remark i am not familiar with the blackface pero siguro sa kanila its offensive
Take the paella out of paella negra and it is the most horrendously offensive word. Likewise, take kiray's face out of context and you may as well damn 1240 to hell. But if you take it within context, it's mere pinoy humor. Nothing offensive to the minds of the common filipino. And i'm sure that's not the only thing that's "culturally offensive" in that film, if you take everything OUT of context.
What can we expect from Vice e his comedy style is to insult and make fun of the people around him. If you're going to ask me to watch the movie to understand then please don't bother. GBBT including more than half ng roster ng mga pelikula ng MMFF are nothing but rubbish. Just sayin'.
As a pinoy, a black face for me is a taong grasa, most certainly not a diss against african americans. They are far from my reality. So don't you dare call me or my people ignorant, just because you don't get pinoy humor. And while we're at it, hey filams, stop calling the philippines "the P.I." kasi para samin, mura ang P.I., stop being so ignorant too!
Another stupid comment from a butthurt person. You demand respect for your own culture yet you cannot respect others? What do you call yourself - a HYPOCRITE. Educate yourself first on discrimination and black face, then let's discuss how wrong you are.
12:48, most "taong grasa" certainly suffer some form of mental illness and they are also homeless. I think it's just cruel and backwards for you, and for anyone else who finds this shit funny, to laugh at these very marginalized individuals. The unfortunate objects of our "Pinoy humor" indicates just how third world we are and i think it's time to change that.
Okay sige sabihin nating di niyo alam yung racism pero grabe kiray's character was an insult to the cultural minorities. Yung air polution, ash tray jokes, pati low IQ yung character, Wenn Deramas should have done better than that or should have stayed out of that black person joke. #justmytwocents
Kuha mo teh its an insult to the cultural minorities ng Pilipinas. But the movie is not an insult sa mga African Americans na prinoprotektahan ng Filam poster
With all issues on racism, gender equality, and political correctness dapat wala ng mga ganito kababaw na mga patawa. An insult is an insult kesyo African-American or Cultural minorities ng Pilipinas. There are lines that should not be crossed ever again.
TO GET A BIG LAUGH FROM AN AUDIENCE.
dito sa US, very sensitive naman talaga ang mga tao when we talk about skin color. She's right naman in her own way.
BACK IN THE 80's - 90's - even in the early 2000's movies have class and looked up by foreign viewers but now the movie industry moving backwards making film that totally nonsense
Other than that, this movie won "Gender Sensitivity" award? Seriously? Depicting gays as snatchers, na parang walang pinag-aralan? That gays act effeminate, and lesbians at butch only? Here we are again at stereotyping the LGBT community.
Shame on this movie. Shame on people defending that the humor presented by this movie is ok. REALLY SHAME ON YOU.
Vice Ganda is really such a disgrace to lgbt community depicting gays and lesbians a-like being made fun of instead of stepping one step closer to gender equalityhe rathan milk this kind of situation SHAME ON YOU making ragged jokes on people who you think are lesser than you
Agree. Diyan siya umangat, by putting others down.
mga ateng, wait lang kayo pag tapos ang moro moro festival, pwede na kayo manood ng Anchorman 2. dun kayo magalit at magreact ng over over in major major way. will ferrel's character says "Only Olympic sport Filipinos are good at is eating cats and dogs."
ang mainsulto sa dialog na yan, ipokrito. enjoy na enjoy tayo manglait ng kalahi natin to the point we forget its already mean and below the belt, and yet kapag ibang lahi ang nanlalait sa atin, akala mo aping api.
Ignorante! Sorry not sorry but truth hurts.
Point is, to present a character with such look isn't necessarily racism, it's how they are treated because of their color we should mind.
The point here is if it is really necessary to make kiray a blackface? Obviously, they're making fun of kiray being black. At sa nagsasabing as a pinoy eh taong grasa anh tingin niya sa blackface, well, sa movie hindi naman mukhang taong grasa ang pinoportray ni kiray. One doesn't have to be educated para malaman kung anong mali sa picture.
Kung meron man at below the belt ay maniniwala akong racist nga pero kung wala naman there is no reason to think it is. Siguro racist yong taong yon kaya ang bilis niyang mag conclude.
In a Western country "blackface" is Racist, The movie is just for local filipino community and it wasn't made to insult "African Americans". We don't embrace american culture, In America Filipinos always makes jokes about being "mexican", "maids" or Brown Monkeys. "Everyone is A Little Racist"
African Americans are way to sensitive anyway as if everyone owns them an apology. Being Too "Black", Too "White" or Being Too "Asian" is always an issue. #FirstWorldProblems
Pinoys are racist, that's a fact. Some may not want to admit it, but we are. We are most insensitive in using racial slurs, and yet we easily take offense when we're at the receiving end. Our country is not as diverse as Malaysia (Chinese, Malays and Indians), Singapore or even to most of the world, so we tend to make fun of the unfamiliar. I think media needs to start with educating the audience with racial sensitivity, as this film is definitely a regressive step towards that.
When I first arrived in the US, I was surprised to find out the terms pinoys used for other races - blue for black americans (blue-ga), kulisap for chinese (insect sounds like intsek), etc...
I'm with her on this one. Partly her concern is that it is such crappy Filipino film, that would be shown abroad and us, Filipinos would be identified by that film. One does not have to see the film to say its a crap. It's a crap. Its a humor film eh, much like American Pie.
sad reality. Dapat it should start sa mga magulang to educate their children.
this is surely racist, black face na afro looking pa, if this movie will be shown here in the US, it's a shame to us filipinos for the brutal humor that we have.
I didn't watch this movie, but this stupid remark that to make herself famous is...stupid. This is a comedy movie. Have you watched hollywood? It's full of racial jokes. Get over it.
Basa-basa din pag may time... "Blackface is more than just burnt cork applied as makeup. It is a style of entertainment based on racist Black stereotypes that began in minstrel shows and continues today."
You are precisely what's wrong with this country.
I am not in US or in Philippines but the lady is correct. Pinoys need to be educated with this "blackface". Next time, it's better to get actors who are really black.
It is indeed a racial slur .... "Blackface is more than just burnt cork applied as makeup. It is a style of entertainment based on racist Black stereotypes that began in minstrel shows and continues today."
I think this issue runs deeper in our culture. Lets call spade a spade a majority of filipino's and filipina's find dark skin people inferior within the culture. The constant definition of beautiful people through tv and advertisement of light skinned individuals has made us feel inadequate within ourselves and therefore spend money on whitening cream and other products. When the actor and actresses are shade darker, they are portrait as maids, crony's, weak and other negative stereotypes. It is a colonial slave mentality that have been persistent with in the society, from the time of the revolution to modern day Philippines. I don't think the people here are racist, but have been ignorant of issues surrounding race. Lastly we must learn to love our own skin no matter how light or dark our skin is. In the words of Steve Biko "black is beautiful," in our way we must also say "brown is beautiful."
Does it really matter ? Maybe this will be another issue about Vice Ganda's jokes, but please, don't make this a big deal... Masaya ba cia ? Ang di cia ang nagsulat ng movie and no choice cia dahil d cia ang Director ! WATCH THE WHOLE MOVIE, BEFORE JUDGING IT ! Nakakahigh blood kau -_-
EXACTLY! Last Halloween lang super na criticize si Julian Hough for attending a halloween party wearing a black face copying a character from "Orange is the new black" kasi it was a dark time for the African-American community and it is not something to make fun of.
the character and how she was portrayed are "racist". There's no defense for it...Ignorance!!! The exaggeration of the skin complexion and hair is simply meant to make the audience laugh and ridicule black people(not adore them or accept them as is), dont you guys see it? The movie is throwing back Philippine media(and Pinoy mentality) to the ignorance of the past. This movie should be condemned.
Tapos napakabalat-sibuyas natin pag may racial slurs against Pinoys sa mga movies and tv shows abroad? Admit it, ang daming Pinoy na ipokrito.
ReplyDeleteYou have tendency of a racist dear..

Hey b*tch napanood mo ba at naintindihan yung movie? Malamng hindi kaya STFU

Those pinoys attacking pinoys as well, oh well, pagtatawanan lang kau ng mga kano sa pagiging super talino nyo haha!
Deleteanon 1240? is that your consciencesayin that? think again you idolized Vice that much to be blided enough with stupidity and read a book will you WTF
DeleteWhen it comes to color napaka sensitive talaga ng mga black people feeling nila lagi ay racist remark i am not familiar with the blackface pero siguro sa kanila its offensive
DeleteTake the paella out of paella negra and it is the most horrendously offensive word.
Delete"FYI girl, not every black joke is a slur against african americans. Hinde lang sila ang maiitim sa mundo!"
DeleteSo your point is?
What can we expect from Vice e his comedy style is to insult and make fun of the people around him. If you're going to ask me to watch the movie to understand then please don't bother. GBBT including more than half ng roster ng mga pelikula ng MMFF are nothing but rubbish. Just sayin'.
ReplyDeleteAs a pinoy, a black face for me is a taong grasa, most certainly not a diss against african americans. They are far from my reality. So don't you dare call me or my people ignorant, just because you don't get pinoy humor. And while we're at it, hey filams, stop calling the philippines "the P.I." kasi para samin, mura ang P.I., stop being so ignorant too!
ReplyDeleteAno ka ba nameenn 1248. It's not the PI, the mura, that you know. C'mon. Bangon Pilipinas, bangon!
DeleteAnother stupid comment from a butthurt person. You demand respect for your own culture yet you cannot respect others? What do you call yourself - a HYPOCRITE. Educate yourself first on discrimination and black face, then let's discuss how wrong you are.
Delete12:48, most "taong grasa" certainly suffer some form of mental illness and they are also homeless. I think it's just cruel and backwards for you, and for anyone else who finds this shit funny, to laugh at these very marginalized individuals. The unfortunate objects of our "Pinoy humor" indicates just how third world we are and i think it's time to change that.
DeleteFil-Ams call the Philippines P.I. as in the "Philippine Islands". Get it? -JEBP
Delete@1:09, exactly his/her point, i think! Take things out of context and they ate damning. Take em within context and there's really nothing to it.
DeleteYou are ignorant of the history of blackface.
ReplyDeleteIt is a garbage movie.
DeleteKuha mo teh its an insult to the cultural minorities ng Pilipinas.
ReplyDeletethis country is hopelessly ignorant.
TO GET A BIG LAUGH FROM AN AUDIENCE.
ReplyDeleteTOMOH!
Deletedito sa US, very sensitive naman talaga ang mga tao when we talk about skin color. She's right naman in her own way.
ReplyDeleteBACK IN THE 80's - 90's - even in the early 2000's movies have class and looked up by foreign viewers but now the movie industry moving backwards making film that totally nonsense
DeleteOther than that, this movie won "Gender Sensitivity" award? Seriously? Depicting gays as snatchers, na parang walang pinag-aralan? That gays act effeminate, and lesbians at butch only? Here we are again at stereotyping the LGBT community.
ReplyDeleteShame on this movie. Shame on people defending that the humor presented by this movie is ok. REALLY SHAME ON YOU.
shame on you too hun, dont embrace too much american culture. you are still an asian. :)
DeleteYou are so right, Anon. 3:22. Let's just be backwards, ignorant, and let us reject whatever liberal ideas the US is introducing to us.
Delete3:22 you dont even make any sense at all. Anung konek nyan sa sinabi ni 1:44? You sound like a fantard. And for that.. SHAME ON YOU :)
DeleteBoom!
Delete@3:22 di ko makonek reply mo....
DeleteI agree. Too shameful and ignorant.
DeleteSo being LGBT is purely "American culture"? Labo mo.
DeleteVice Ganda is really such a disgrace to lgbt community depicting gays and lesbians a-like being made fun of instead of stepping one step closer to gender equalityhe rathan milk this kind of situation SHAME ON YOU making ragged jokes on people who you think are lesser than you
ReplyDeletehe/she is disgusting.
DeleteEXACTLY. Akala nya boses sya ng LGBT when actually he is pulling the society backwards.
DeleteAgree. Diyan siya umangat, by putting others down.
ReplyDeletemga ateng, wait lang kayo pag tapos ang moro moro festival, pwede na kayo manood ng Anchorman 2. dun kayo magalit at magreact ng over over in major major way. will ferrel's character says "Only Olympic sport Filipinos are good at is eating cats and dogs."
ReplyDeleteang mainsulto sa dialog na yan, ipokrito. enjoy na enjoy tayo manglait ng kalahi natin to the point we forget its already mean and below the belt, and yet kapag ibang lahi ang nanlalait sa atin, akala mo aping api.
Masyadong MAARTE!
ReplyDeleteIgnorante. Fantard. Enough said.
DeleteEducate yourself on the history of blackface. egoggle mo 'day. She is not being "maarte". You are ignorante.
Sorry not sorry but truth hurts.
Point is, to present a character with such look isn't necessarily racism, it's how they are treated because of their color we should mind.
ReplyDeleteBlackface is racist and offensive.
DeleteThe point here is if it is really necessary to make kiray a blackface? Obviously, they're making fun of kiray being black. At sa nagsasabing as a pinoy eh taong grasa anh tingin niya sa blackface, well, sa movie hindi naman mukhang taong grasa ang pinoportray ni kiray. One doesn't have to be educated para malaman kung anong mali sa picture. Unless nagbubulag-bulagan kayo dahil sa sobrang pagkafantard niyo.
ReplyDeleteFilipinos don't even now that they are being racist. LOL.
Kung meron man at below the belt ay maniniwala akong racist nga pero kung wala naman there is no reason to think it is. Siguro racist yong taong yon kaya ang bilis niyang mag conclude.
ReplyDeleteYou are too ignorant to know the history of blackface?
DeleteIn a Western country "blackface" is Racist, The movie is just for local filipino community and it wasn't made to insult "African Americans". We don't embrace american culture, In America Filipinos always makes jokes about being "mexican", "maids" or Brown Monkeys.
ReplyDelete"Everyone is A Little Racist"
African Americans are way to sensitive anyway as if everyone owns them an apology.
Being Too "Black", Too "White" or Being Too "Asian" is always an issue.
#FirstWorldProblems
Uh-Oh! It's going to be shown in theaters in the whole US starting next week.
DeleteI agree 100%
DeleteBlackface is racist no matter where you show it.
DeleteTrue.
DeletePinoys are racist, that's a fact.
ReplyDeleteWhen I first arrived in the US, I was surprised to find out the terms pinoys used for other races - blue for black americans (blue-ga), kulisap for chinese (insect sounds like intsek), etc...
DeleteI like how you put my mind into words. Love na kita.
DeleteI'm with her on this one. Partly her concern is that it is such crappy Filipino film, that would be shown abroad and us, Filipinos would be identified by that film. One does not have to see the film to say its a crap. It's a crap. Its a humor film eh, much like American Pie.
ReplyDeletesad reality. Dapat it should start sa mga magulang to educate their children.
ReplyDeletethis is surely racist, black face na afro looking pa, if this movie will be shown here in the US, it's a shame to us filipinos for the brutal humor that we have.
ReplyDeletehuh? have you seen movies of adam sandler and rob schneider? hindi ba sobrang racist and yet we just laugh it off?
DeleteVery true.
Delete@12:03, adam sandler has one of the most Razzies. walang kwenta ang humor niya. at hindi porke't ginagawa ng iba, kailangang makisali tayo.
DeleteI didn't watch this movie, but this stupid remark that to make herself famous is...stupid. This is a comedy movie. Have you watched hollywood? It's full of racial jokes. Get over it.
ReplyDeleteBasa-basa din pag may time... "Blackface is more than just burnt cork applied as makeup. It is a style of entertainment based on racist Black stereotypes
Deletethat began in minstrel shows and continues today."
@10:46, so since ginagawa ng iba, it must be okay to do it too? marami namang paghuhugutan ng jokes na hindi ginagamit ang blackface ah.
You are precisely what's wrong with this country.
ReplyDeleteBlackface is racist but Filipinos are too ignorant to know it.
ReplyDeleteAMERICA CAN SUE VICE GANDA FOR THIS. GOOD LUCK SA'YO CHAKANG KABAYO.
ReplyDeleteI am not in US or in Philippines but the lady is correct. Pinoys need to be educated with this "blackface". Next time, it's better to get actors who are really black.
ReplyDeleteIt is indeed a racial slur .... "Blackface is more than just burnt cork applied as makeup. It is a style of entertainment based on racist Black stereotypes that began in minstrel shows and continues today."
ReplyDeleteBabala : Copy-paste ko lang po yan....
Nakakahigh blood kau -_-
ReplyDeleteHello Miss Hilaw, eh ikaw naman racist eh. Mkpnira ka lng sa GBBT, naku! Fail te. Isip ka ng bagong style ha.
ReplyDeleteGet a new brain as well, 6:36. You are too brainwashed. Kawawa ka naman.
Deletebasahin mo nga uli yung comment mo. wala kang point eh. bakit naging racist yung nag-post niyan? ikaw ang kailangang mag-isip.
DeleteAng dami b dito e.
ReplyDeleteduh, why are you surprised??? it wont be the gates of hell for nothing
ReplyDeleteEXACTLY! Last Halloween lang super na criticize si Julian Hough for attending a halloween party wearing a black face copying a character from "Orange is the new black" kasi it was a dark time for the African-American community and it is not something to make fun of.
ReplyDeletethe character and how she was portrayed are "racist".
ReplyDeleteWala namang isyu talaga jan..
ReplyDelete
