  1. Well....totoo naman diba? Most of the time may interpreter ang mga Latinas as opposed to actually speaking in English.

    3. Anon 12:18, how is that racist?? Anong sinabi ni ANon12:12 na demeaning to Latinas? I dont think it means what you think it means.

    4. 1232 am, nakakaawa ka. Pakibasa ulit yung unang comment.

    5. 12:39AM Racist = "a person who believes that a particular race is superior to another.", where did 12:12 mention anything about superiority, or being a better race? or person? ikaw ang magbasa

She maybe agreeing to Mo but not a single demeaning racist comment came out from 12:12

    7. Winner ka anon 12:52. That was the point.

    9. Kawawang Ariella.. She only defended herself from bashers who keep insulting her for her English kahit ok naman.. Ngayon siya pa lumabas na masama.. She only meant that Latinas do not even speak English at the Q&A kaya wag naman siya i-down dahil lang sa English nya... Siguro nga marunong mag-English ang mga Latina pero malakas ba loob nila pagdating sa Q&A? or baka naman it gives them more time to answer kasi kaya pabor sila na may interpreter?

      Delete
    10. I don't like Mo Twister... at all! pero me point tlga sya. siguro iba ung intention ni Ariella pero medyo insensitive at mali ung pgkakasabi nya. She shouldn't single out any nationality nalng. buttom line is think first, before you speak or Less talk, Less Mistakes.

      Delete
    11. 2:56, she only defended herself at the expense of other, is that it? And you're gonna get mad when other race picks/bashes on Pinoys, too? Wow, I can smell hypocrisy.... Tsk tsk tsk!

  8. Tama si Mo. Pagtayo nilait ang accent, ang daming reklamo.. and we demand public apology.. pero tayo naman wagas maka spoof at manlait sa ibang lahi.. di ko na siya bet manalo..

    1. True. Remember that time when that Korean actress made fun of our accent when we speak English? Parang ganyan lang yung Latina comment eh. Ms. Arida, ikaw yata dapat may translator din. 1. all the other statements about filipinos are usually taken out of context too, like baldwin's and dan brown. may point si Mo

      Delete
    2. She has NO RIGHT to bluntly state her observations. She is representing the PHL in a beauty contest, for crying out loud! She should be a ROLE MODEL, not a loud airhead! She MUST think 100x before she speaks!

      Delete
    3. To Anon 12:24AM, don't worry, I am not naman one of those who were offended by the Baldwin / Brown statement. Kaya nga personally, kembot lang. It's no big deal. I feel na she could express herself better in Filipino pero bahala sya, sya naman magcocompete.

      Delete
    4. Anon 12:30 I agree with you, madami tyong mga pageant representative na matalino but di ma express ang sarili sa Q&A kse olats, madalas ayaw kumuha ng translator/interpreter because of pride, porke english speaking country ang pilipinas, gusto nila panindigan.

      Delete
    5. Ara sounds sabaw in my honest opinion though she speaks with substance. That was the edge of Megan that is why she won. Dapat magtongue twister sya madalas pag rehearsals break

      Delete
    6. tamang -tama, magtraining sya under Mo TWISTER

      Delete
    7. I agree with you Anon 12.30. Mali mali word usage nya baka may masabi na namang offensive yan just because she can't express herself in English. And I don't get it why beauty queens are too proud to get a translator. If that's the way of getting the crown why not? Ok lang naman umamin na you can't express yourself in English (instead nilalagyan ng accent yung English and it doesn't sound nice)

She is just OK with her english skills because others (she gave Latinas as example) are also not that fluent in the language. I think she just sees herself in them. They can win pageants without having to impress english grammar nazis.

yung sa ating mga pinoy na naoffend eegarding sa kakayahan nating mag english was justifiable since isa tayo sa mga bansa na pinakamagagaling mag ingles.

she might have generalized the latinos about their ability in speaking english but it is just a fact which was stated without any maligne intentions.

People, grow up! It may be true that most Latinas get interpreters. So what? I think our Filipina candidates should also get interpreters. Syempre plus points if you are fluent, but heck, naprove na a lot of times na it's not a requirement! 34. mo has a point. what she said and how she phrased it, taken out of context or not, is offensive to the latino community. our candidate, i feel, has trouble expressing herself well. forget about not being proficient in english, even in tagalog, there's a lot to be said with her delivery.
mo only said what he said because he knows the outside world, he's exposed to other cultures and have seen the consequences her slip of the tongue might bring us.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I'm born and raised in the US and Mo's personality and comments can sometimes be too much for me; however, I agree with him. If she says something like this on national TV now, I can't imagine what she will say during the actual competition. It's true though. We are very protective and proud of who we are, as well as Latinos. Latinos are our sister culture. We did come from Spanish ancestry and much of our culture is from that. Also, I admire Latinos because at least they can still speak their language fluently and not mix it with "kalurkey" slang or taglish haha Also, many latinos love filipinos and vice versa, so it hurts me that she would say that about Latinos. Peace everyone!

    ReplyDelete
  40. PS: Also, I actually think it's cool when people can speak their own language - it's what makes someone culture beautiful. Speaking English is cool and in the business world - great but just because you need a translator, it doesn't make you less than a person or stupid because you don't know english. What happened to celebrating diversity? Filipinos can obviously speak english but I think it's cool and advantage when she can still speak her mother tongue :)

  43. Knowing how to put a sentence in English does not equate to intelligence. Mo is right about this.

    ReplyDelete

    1. That's exactly why Miss Arida's comments should not be taken as offensive. Cause not being able to complete a sentence in English is not something to be ashamed of.

However, she needs to watch what she say, in this day and age, everything you say can be taken out of context and be used against you.

      Delete

  45. pinoy netizens are up in arms because we're afraid she might say something like this in the actual pageant interview, that's assuming she gets that far. ayaw natin siyang magkalat or ma-embarass. o di ba, equivalent lang ito sa anak na magpe-perform sa school, yung parents ang kinakabahan ng todo para sa kanila.

but you know what, she might just surprise all of us. baka nag ba buckle siya in front of us because she knows we're her biggest critics. pero once in front of a different audience, baka mas relax siya then she can do her best.

on top of this, there's the pressure to place kasi yung previous 3, top 5, si megan miss world, yung mutya miss supra.

(i hope she doesn't read any of these...)

  52. Mo has a point. Kung Latina sya tapos sinabi nya yan referring to Filipinos. Madami pinoy magagalit sa kanya at sasabihan na racist at idedeclare na persona non grata sya sa Pilipinas. As in kakalat yan sa facebook at ibabash sya. So kaya dapat tayo mga Pinoy wag mag over react kung medyo hindi okay ang comment sa tin. Some Filipinos meron "feeling api" syndrome.

  53. Watch the interview. Ariella was just defending herself. She compared herself to Latinas having a hard time speaking in English. And that in the competition it won't actually matter how you phrase the words. She didn't say that it was bad or they were inferior to us. Give her a break. Don't be so quick to dismiss her as rude. She even admitted that she has a hard time with the language, and this may be one of the circumstances where she put it wrongly. And honestly, it's true. Objectively, Latinas have a hard time with the language as well.

Too many bad vibes for Ariella Arida, I doubt if she can make it. Si Megan at Mutya kc puro positive vibes lng. Eto c Ariela, she's not even thinking what she's saying. Not so crowning/beauty queen-ish.

  65. For me, being Miss Universe is not just about knowing how to speak a specific language. It's being able to influence and inspire other people. So whatever language you have, as long your heart is to serve and you have a strong mind to show people then you can be Miss Universe

    ReplyDelete
  66. I don't understand what the big deal is. Watch the full interview. Some viewers noticed that her english/grammar is not that good. She said that she's doing her best and she'll continue to work on it. Doon niya pinasok yung latinas can't speak a sentence. What she meant there was that Latinas couldn't even speak an english sentence properly but they are still placing, so speaking in properly english is not a hindrance to the crown. Yun lang yun. OA niyong lahat, hindi na kayo naawa sa girl na ilang months nagtrain so that she could make you all proud. One little mishap then you lost faith in her. So sad. I wish her all the best in Moscow.

  68. wrong usage of word i think is the main issue here... I believe ara was trying to convey a message that latinas to be specific cant speak english fluently but most of the time they ended as the winner

kung latino ang makakarinig nung statement mag aagree pa. don't get me wrong with this guys i have had conversations with latinos born raised and are still living in the different countries of south america and they are mababait and hindi sila marunong mag english lahat. mga palabiro din sila tulad ng mga pinoy but they are not as sensitive so i know they won't be offended with this statement since it is indeed factual.

and oo spanish ang gamit namin while conversing.

  78. Have you watched the entire interview? I was able to watch the interview and I think it was taken out of context sabi nga Ni karen the question was from a twitter follower asking her about sa command niya sa pagsasalita ng english she was defending her self sa mga bashers, watch the whole interview, give your opinion dapat base sa whole story not because sa nakita niyong post ni mo

    ReplyDelete
  79. Paganahin nyo mga utak nyo... ariella doesn't mean any negative on what she stated... but the thing is.. masyado lang binigyan ng negative impact yung sinabi nya kahit hindi nya intention na laitin ang mga latina.. besides... totoo nman na kung iisipin mo nakakaintindi ang mga latina ng English or they can also speak in English... but the thing is.. nakakapag isip sila ng right answer kasi habang tina-translate yung question on their language may sila mag-isip.. so in my own "OPINION" isa yung pandaraya... any violent reaction... hehehe

  90. I am Team Mo! That Ervic guy (who is he again?) cannot argue for his life and instead went into personal attacks. It says a lot about his intelligence and character, or the lack thereof! Secondly, what Ariella said was downright offensive. It exposed her lack of tact and class as a beauty queen. By claiming that her words were taken out of context, she dug herself deeper into the hole. She just showed everyone that she cannot communicate well in English. What's wrong ba kasi with having a translator? Ok naman yun ah. Tapos sasabihin pa nya she doesn't need one cos she knows she will deliver... eh kita nyo naman, deliver na deliver ang ignorant comment nya. If you made that comment here in the US, talagang racist ang dating. Oh well.

  94. Dear Ara...just because you can...it doesn't mean you should. See what happens when you try to show your ability. That is some hasty generalization. Some people might find it offensive..some won't but if you are fighting for that crown, at least try to be very cautious before you open your mouth. Your answer should put the others in unison..not division.

Besides it wouldn't hurt if you'll allow your audience to hear how beautiful your language is

    ReplyDelete
  95. Kiss the crown goodbye! show na show superiority complex. Try mo sanang maging humble..look at megan..humility at its best! Pasok sa banga ang crown.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Nothing offensive with her interview. She said Latinas don't speak English. It's true and Latinas are proud of it. They don't feel the need to speak English because Spanish is major international language. Not being able to speak English is not considered an disadvantage. It is only in the Philippines and in US that people think less of others who cannot speak english well.

    ReplyDelete
  97. gusto ata i-prove ni ate na kaya nya sumagot in english kagaya ng iba nating candidates. kaso kung sablay nman eh better in filipino na lang at ang importante eh yung context ng sagot.
