Before the pageant could let the dust settle, Miss Uzbekistan Rakhima Ganieva’s participation came under scrutiny. During an interview with Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, Uzbekistan‘s Culture and Sports Ministry and the national committee on women called Ganieva, 18, an imposter and said that no such contest as Miss Uzbekistan happened in the country.
The most recent contestant to join the controversies is Miss Philippines, Megan Young. Having made to the top ten of two contests – Beach fashion and Top Model – at the Miss World 2013 pageant, Young is one of the top contenders predicted to win the coveted Miss World crown during the finale.
However, topless photos of Megan Young, an early favourite among pageant’s fans, that appeared in the March 2012 issue of Rogue Magazine have surfaced and drawn ire from the fans.
“Rules are rules when it comes to the Miss World beauty contest it seems that contestants’ taking their clothes off is a clear breach of the laws,” a user wrote to IBTimes UK on condition of anonymity.
“A beauty queen is somebody that is a good role model inside and out and obviously is a beautiful person. It's not just about exterior beauty; a beauty queen has to have outstanding morals, elegance, femininity and class. And that's what everybody thinks it is. Beauty queens should be seen as role models not sex object.”
The user asks: “Will an Indonesian group of religious and feminist launch a protest on Megan Young's naked pictures? How will Miss World Organization and Indonesian government handle this issue?”
Notwithstanding any of these controversies, the Miss World Organisation is readying to host all the 130 contestants on the Miss World 2013 finale. Both Miss Philippines and Miss Uzbekistan remain listed on the pageant’s official website.
Hindi naman frontal nudity. Sana i-consider pa din. The pictures are artistic naman.

DeleteOnga, saka sa photoshoots na ganyan, hindi naman COMPLETELY nude, usually may tape or some other cleverly hidden cover na ginagamit. Buti sana kung nakabuyangyang yung keme nya eh hindi naman.

ReplyDeleteI would have understood if the pictures were screengrabs from "actual scandals". It may have been a sexy magazine but it was not pornographic. I'm sure other pageant contestants have also posed the say way. Parang sabotage attempt.

ReplyDeleteMegan's pic aren't that topless at all. That writer blatantly emphasized the sexual scenario wherein the photo is not a big deal at all. Kids would see beauty queens as role models and it is the role of their parents to guide them. So why do these insecure people bother much about the photos?

ReplyDeleteI remember reading somewhere na cory quirino informed miss world owner julia morley about megan's rogue magazine when she won miss world phil and it wasn't an issue. Naninira lang yung indian writer to bring megan down kase frontrunner sya.

DeleteThere is nothing wrong with the photos. She is topless, yes, but she didn't show her nipples, nor opened her legs for the world to see. It was for a magazine..not a nude mag. Even Ms. U candidates posed 'naked' with body paint way back in 2010. As long as it was done artistically to show art and not to pose exposing nipples and her vu**a, there is nothing wrong with the pictures. Senseless.

ReplyDeleteNothing wrong with the picture it was taken in good taste. Hindi sya nude or topless all you see is her back. I'm sure alam ni Megan kong ano ang rules at regulation sa beauty pageant. Ipinaalam naman siguro nya ito bago sya sumali. Kaya kong sino man ang na ninira sa kanya just be happy with her and move on kong natalo kaman sa contest may next pa naman.

Pilipinas. pero kung ganun na nga, sad to say, ground for disqualification nga to. ang nakakatawa lang sa iba, kasi pinoy ang involved eh automatic ipaglalabang art yan. i bet kung ibang lahi yan tapos malakas ang laban sa pageant eh mangununa ang pinoy sumigaw ng foul. i am for megan in winning the crown kasi may K talaga sya. but if there's a rule that pics taken like this are not allowed, then tanggapin natin graciously ang magiging decision. tayo kasing mga pinoy we're sore losers. we don't accept defeat graciously. parati nating claim eh nadaya tayo o di kaya nasabotage. tsk!
ReplyDeleteRogue is not a Men's magazine, it's a lifestyle magazine - culture, food, fashion, travel. Daring and sexy lang ang ibang pictures kasi trailblazing. Someone ought to fight the attack theyre doing against Megan! And start posting the entire photo spread and the magazine itself (caption the website of the mag even the cover Megan did) - hindi kalinya ng FHM ang Rogue!

ReplyDeleteIf it is really in the best interest of the Ms. World pageant to promote feminism and woman empowerment, they won't see Megan Young's photographs as a violation of the pageant's law. What's so wrong with a consenting adult artistically posing for a magazine? Shouldn't feminism be about letting a woman do what she wills to do, without being frowned upon by society? If the committee will disqualify her, this is a clear step back to feminism and a clear breach of woman's inherent right to free will and bodily autonomy. - JLT

ReplyDeletei may not be a fan of our candidate for miss world, but it was clear the photos taken was a result of a modeling job. in short, it was megan working as a model and not megan as a private individual who randomly chose to pose in that manner. i do not think this should affect her chance at winning the crown. also, rogue is not a porn/soft porn printed material published for the sole purpose of promoting sex. this is why it is safe to say whoever makes an issue out of this modeling photo set is only glorifying gossip and encouraging people to misjudge and misunderstand megan as a private individual with dreams of making it as far as winning the crown is concerned. people, judge accordingly and not with your own assumptions.
