In all fairness to the young Barrettos, they answer their interviews graciously, full of class. Like when Julia and Daniel were asked about the scandal of their mom and their families, they answered with full positivity that their family will overcome these issues and they didn't take any side. I've talked with different kind of people; particularly Americans. When I was communicating with them, I must say, my English wasn't that fluent. And what I observed too, his fluency wasn't that good also. He didn't laugh at me, nor criticize me for not be able to deliver the perfect grammar. I didn't laugh at him either, 'cause he expressed his thoughts clearly. My point is, English isn't out native language. So don't get your expectations too high from people to be fluent. Yes, she studied in one of the best schools here in the Philippines but that doesn't mean that she has to be perfect on it.

@Jaymie, I believe Anon 12:46 was not talking about grammar as basis for IQ level. What he/she meant was for someone who had been in a British school and had been taught in British English for all the years she had been there should have been better with her punctuations e.g commas, and the subject verb agreement of some of her sentences. I was in the impression though that she might have been irritated while responding to the one bashing her; hence, the long reply that obviously shows the writer was going through myriad of emotions.
And one more thing, we Filipinos are the world's best in business English. If someone notices so-and-so personalities are off the marks of what they tweet/write/share, that's because we had taken into English like ducks to water. We notice minutest details. How we tell the other person their mistakes though is another thing. Some are tactful, others will be tactless.

Some British and Americans are not that fluent with the English language... ask any call center agent and they will attest on how poor these people are with the use of their supposed "mother tongue" (ubos na english ko from this point)

Perhaps it's because of the lifestyle. When you are a child of a mistress it is perceived that you are living a life and enjoying perks that should have been for the real family only. When someone like Gretchen is seen by everyone as being ostentatiously materialistic and shameless in parading her wealth, people are understandably repulsed. Dominique gets a share of that disdain for being her mother's daughter. Maybe she should not, but then people aren't always understanding. Considering na sa international school siya nag-aral, expected na ok siya magsulat. Pero di din pala. Yung use of punctuation marks is very basic and subject-verb agreement.

DeleteI've talked with different kind of people; particularly Americans. When I was communicating with them, I must say, my English wasn't that fluent. And what I observed too, his fluency wasn't that good also. He didn't laugh at me, nor criticize me for not be able to deliver the perfect grammar. I didn't laugh at him either, 'cause he expressed his thoughts clearly. My point is, English isn't out native language. So don't get your expectations too high from people to be fluent. Yes, she studied in one of the best schools here in the Philippines but that doesn't mean that she has to be perfect on it.

Delete@Jaymie, I believe Anon 12:46 was not talking about grammar as basis for IQ level. What he/she meant was for someone who had been in a British school and had been taught in British English for all the years she had been there should have been better with her punctuations e.g commas, and the subject verb agreement of some of her sentences. I was in the impression though that she might have been irritated while responding to the one bashing her; hence, the long reply that obviously shows the writer was going through myriad of emotions.
DeleteAnd one more thing, we Filipinos are the world's best in business English. If someone notices so-and-so personalities are off the marks of what they tweet/write/share, that's because we had taken into English like ducks to water. We notice minutest details. How we tell the other person their mistakes though is another thing. Some are tactful, others will be tactless.
Mga Pinoy nga naman! Ano bang masama sa sumasablay na grammar? Punta ka sa US or Canada, kausapin mo mga locals. Maloka ka sa grammar nila! Wala yang pinag-iba sa Tagalog. Hindi naman lagi lagi complete sentence ang Tagalog natin di ba? Masyado kayong maka-grammar!

DeletePerhaps it's because of the lifestyle. When you are a child of a mistress it is perceived that you are living a life and enjoying perks that should have been for the real family only. Ika nga, nang-agaw ang nanay mo, nakikihati ka naman sa tatay ng iba at sa kayamanan niya. When someone like Gretchen is seen by everyone as being ostentatiously materialistic and shameless in parading her wealth, people are understandably repulsed. Dominique gets a share of that disdain for being her mother's daughter. Maybe she should not, but then people aren't always understanding. Life is not fair, but then again it hasn't been fair for the legitimate family, too. Fate has a way of balancing and evening things out.

ReplyDeletewala akong angal kung mali ang english grammar dahil we all make mistakes. ang nakakapanindig balahibo ay yung mga lumaki sa pilipinas tapos sinadyang huwag turuan (ng magulang) o mag-aral ng tagalog (sariling sikap) as if nakakababang uri ang magtagalog. pinagmamalaki pa kung di marunong! as though it gives them class! good heavens.
