Ok...so what? Nothing to see here. I'm sick of everyone raising the racist card when something as trivial as this happens. Don't make a mountain out of a molehill.
ANON 12:39, 12:47, 12:56, 1:19, 2:35... ang shush**ga nyo mga teh. Putak kasi ng putak ng di nagbabasa! Yung nasa kaliwa about immigration, tapos sa kanan sabi "don't let them in.". If sinadya sila ipagtabi, syempre may racial discrimination. Kung di sinadya, then deadma. Anyway, yung nasa kanan is movie about home invasion
baka mali ang pagkaka intindi mo sa word na 'racist'. haha.. chinese rin ako pero dito lumaki sa pilipinas, so i'm proud to be pinoy. nothing racist or wrong about that. and i don't think magagalit or magrireact ang mga chinese sa statement ko.
i am pretty sure this is by the G train between williamsburg and bed stuy where i hardly see any filipinos. this ins poster has been here for years and they just keep on pasting a new copy each time so that it's always new. it's a series of print ads using models from different immigrant groups.
Seriously? I don't see anything wrong about the ad nor its placement. People need to stop being so sensitive and creating malicious buzz in the name of racism.
Also, I am born and raised in Manila as well. I've been here for 14 years now and whenever people ask me I always tell them that I was born and raised in Manila but I am an American.
Not racist at all. The movie, Straw Dogs is a story about a white couple who are not wanted in the place they had just moved in. I am not sure though if this is a remake of a movie with same title that starred Dustin Hoffman but the setting was in England. This time the setting is in the south. Nag over analyze naman ang nakakakita ng side by side na photo na ito. Taken out of context, I should say.
if you're an american citizen, and you've lived in the u.s for ages, then of course you have to be proud to be an american..you took an oath during the citizenship ceremonies right? there's nothing wrong with that..as long as you still recognize where you originally came from...stop blowing things out of proportion...
And stop blowing your mind with senseless argument, eyes on the board! dalawang picture yan dba?
Gets? Kaya nga marami ng proud to be filipino kahit walang dugong pinoy. Wag oa,.
More so, that picture is so 2011. Straw Dogs was a movie in 2011 and the "dont let them in" tag was about the guy's murderous neighbors. The movie poster has no connection with the Filipina poster.
that picture is old. 2011 pa. and there's nothing racist there since the two billboards have no connection at all. one is about a filipino-american's pride as an american, the other one is james marsden's 2011 suspense-thriller movie, Straw Dogs.
here we go again...much ado about nothing. anonymous 1:03 is correct in saying that the ins pic is old. i remember seeing this in one of the subway stops between williamsburg and fort greene by the G train. the movie pic, otoh, is new and will be gone in a week or two.
i can only speak for my own brain and how it processes information. when looking at 2 items side by side, automatically i will look at the item on the left then right. so my brain is still digesting the message from the left poster and all of a sudden the negative phrase 'don't let them in' comes into view. so for me it seems the 2 posters were really placed side by side on purpose to send one message, that someone or some group feels i should not be here in america. you can say i'm reading too much into it, blame by brain, i have no control over it, he he he.
yes, i've lived here for 33 years and it becomes a conscious effort on my part to not attract too much attention to be the subject of discrimination of any sort from the americans. yes, i'm bothered by it but soon it will pass too since there's no point dwelling over something i have personally no control over. everybody has a way of dealing with discrimintion even in its mildest form. ignore it, fight it, your choice, kinda tough being a minority here if you know what i mean. like i said, i can only speak for myself, not generalizing that the whole population must react the same way.
born in PI, proud to be a fil-am!!!
(ps, yes, i've read from the comments above that these are old posters but the issue is still relevant today.)
For some strange reason this comment above bothered me a bit. I don't understand why we differentiate ourselves from each other. Are we not by blood and pride all filipinos. To disassociate yourself from the issues of filipino-foreigners, it feels like somewhat of elitist point of view of "I'm more filipino than you," so therefore our plight are inconsequential. When in fact we are the first line of defense, when Lucy Lui makes a comment of being afraid of being too dark or when Dan Brown calls Manila the gates of hell. Yet you have considered us a lesser form of filipinos. Wow what the definition of being a racist?
call it whatever but i don't care about filipinos who are proud being adopted by another countries. so what if you look like filipinos and have the bloodline but if you denounce your filipino citizenship, you are no longer filipinos. that ad doesn't bother me also. regardless if its placement is coincidental or not. those who are proud of being adopted by other countries make me look down at them
So let me get this straight, the only way I can keep being Filipino is through my citizenship. How feeble minded and ignorant are you. Seriously. When Africans were brought to America in bondage, did they lose their rights of being African or were they just proud of "being adopted" by Americans. There is a reason why it's Filipino - Americans, Japanese and other nations because we identify ourselves of being Filipino first, before our adopted homeland. If you want to talk about what it is to be a "Filipino" lets start from our history of the hindus immigrating to our lands were we learned sanskrit and in turn created our own writing system: Baybayin (Alibata) to American influence in Filipino culture. Also, the genetic origins that make us Filipino. So don't tell me I have I'm not Filipino because of my citizenship. So what have you done to elevate your understanding of being Filipino besides living there.
So my ancestral roots of bring Filipino is null and void. What a great example of bringing Filipinos together. You know what, I have my point of view and you definitely have yours. So support your Mussolini, Hitler, and every separatist Filipino that is out there. Your Crab Mentality has no bounds, unless your pure Filipino. By the way our Malay, Chinese, Indo and Indian is mixture of our Filipino identity.
Coincidence lang yan. Nothing racist at all. The left side add is in fact found in USCIS buildings, yung sa immigration system. Let's just all hope and pray ma pasa ang immigration reform nang maayus na ang maraming kababayan dito. Kesa pag usapan ang walang kwentang bagay. I am also from New York and you find adds all over the subways.
my guard!!! di na nahiya ang pinoy na yan..... proud american? eh pinoy na pinoy ung itsura.... that agency should address public apology to all filipinos
This is an ad from the USCIS (United States Citizenship and Immigration Services). I saw the same ad here in Washington D.C. but the model is from a different country. This is their normal ad. What's the big deal, just ignorant people making fuss over this immigration add. duh!
kung maka 'duh' wagas. and it's not the immig 'ad' by itself as the issue, it's its placement next to the movie poster with the catchphrase 'DON'T LET THEM IN'.
I think it's just a coincidence. America is too liberal to be subtle. I have seen way too many ads here directly addressing whatever issues, may it be discrimination or difference of opinion. I don't think it's a big deal unless you allow yourself to get affected by it or you have a malicious mind.
This is what's wrong with us, Filipinos. Porket coincidence na magkatabi yung dalawang ads, bibigyan agad ng kahulugan. The one at the right is a movie ad. Nothing to do with the ad on the left. It's not racist. It says, "Born in the Philippines, Proud American". Prolly because the United States adopted her and she's an immigrant.
I'm a Filipino, born and raised in the Philippines, migrated to Canada and is now a proud Canadian (citizen). Yes, I'm still a proud Pinay. Kahit 1/4 Spanish and 1/4 Chinese gawa ng halfsies na Lolo at Lola ko, I am still half-Filipino, which makes me a Pinay diba? I am also proud to have been adopted by the Canadian government, kaya proud Canadian. As for the coincidental placing of those two ads, WALANG RACIST dyan. Balat sibuyas lang talaga tayong mga Pilipino. Konting sintido komon naman mga teh! Wag masamain lahat ng makita.
The title of FP's blog post is "Deliberate or Not: New York City Subway Ads" - pointing to Ad placement. Ang "in question" here is sinasadya bang pagtabihin yung dalawang ads, or is it a "fail"
Hirap kasi sa iba dito react kagad di muna magisip.
Fp di ko alam kung b**o lng tong iba dito o nakaka b**o ang pagiging emerikin ctzen hahahahha its not about you darleng its about the posters if it is intentional na pinag tabi o hindi.. yun lng!
kung test ito sa school, maraming bagsak. basa basa mabuti ng instruction/question pag may time. who knows kung deliberate or not, yung affected by the subtlety will think yes.
What FB meant to imply was that, if the OTHER billboard, mounted beside on purpose. Kapapanuod nyo nyan ng MHL Nga Nga
Kinda racist..
ReplyDeletebraindrain to the ph. imbles na remitance tax pa ng america:(
DeleteAno ang racist dun?
DeleteWhy racist?! Can you define racism? Actually, pinoy lang na balat sibuyas ang mag iisip na racist yan..
DeleteExactly, where is "racism" on that picture?
DeleteYeah! No racism there! Parang ako, pure chinese ako. Born in the philippines. Proud to be filipino! May racism ba dun?
DeleteDi naman niya kinahiya kung san siya nanggaling..
Wag masyadong balat sibuyas.
-ac
Yun totoo, chinese or filipino? born in the philippines yet chinese?
DeleteOk...so what? Nothing to see here. I'm sick of everyone raising the racist card when something as trivial as this happens. Don't make a mountain out of a molehill.

DeleteANON 1:50 what's with your question? Sorry but I find it to be quite st*pid.
Deletelike a square peg in a round hole
Deleteanu ngayon? sino ba siya? sus!
5:17 mas sh**gels ka teh. Di mo binasa ang posts ng iba? Intindihin mo kaya. Wa epek ang pinagtabi na ads. Kebs.

DeleteAd placement fail.
ReplyDeleteHay nako, may mag aalburoto na naman dyang mga balat sibuyas. Nagka scandal din sa NYC subways regarding anti-Muslim ads. Kebs, wala me pake.
ReplyDeleteWhatever! Wag na pansiinin baka sumikat pa! Next pls!
ReplyDeleteI currently live in Queens, NYC. Haven't seen this ad, at what subway station?
ReplyDeletei am pretty sure this is by the G train between williamsburg and bed stuy where i hardly see any filipinos. this ins poster has been here for years and they just keep on pasting a new copy each time so that it's always new. it's a series of print ads using models from different immigrant groups.
DeleteI see nothing wrong about the ad. So, it's a fact. NYC encompasses color, sex, & origin.
ReplyDeleteNaku ayan nanaman ang mga balat-sibuyas na Filipino. I live in Queens, NYC too and I believe this is purely conincidental.
ReplyDeleteat what subway station?
DeleteSeriously? I don't see anything wrong about the ad nor its placement. People need to stop being so sensitive and creating malicious buzz in the name of racism.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts exactly.
DeleteParanoid naman masyado.
ReplyDeletekulang sa pansin mga new yorkers, wahahaha inggit much ang peg ng mga ung*g na racist!!!!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I am born and raised in Manila as well. I've been here for 14 years now and whenever people ask me I always tell them that I was born and raised in Manila but I am an American.

DeleteAnon 1:51, ang title na nilagay ni FP is "DELIBERATE OR NOT". Meaning, sinayda ba na pagtabihin? Hindi ka ata marunong umintindi.
DeleteDear, that is the point of the article and picture
Delete@anon 1:51 atleast aminado kang di mo naintindihan ang caption ni FP haha! ikaw pa may ganang supalpalin si anon 12:36am ha? lols

ReplyDeleteThat's not the question. FP is asking if intentional na tinabihan ng poster na "Don't Let Them In".
DeleteAgree with you there... I'm one of those born in PI and proud to be American!!!
