How would he feel if foreigners make fun of the flooding in Manila? People need to be sensitive in crisis.Workers were either on house arrest or working outdoors even with hazardous air quality.
Oh my god, must we be always politically correct in every step of the way? Anyway to answer your question, I hear people joking about having a newly installed beach house because of the flood-even if they've been aggraviated by it. I know natural disasters aren't suppose to be funny but lighten up a bit, it won't hurt I promise you.
I don't think see anything wrong with Jim's tweet. people from Singapore really suffered from the haze for a few days; and there were pictures of SG covered with smog. and if ever foreigners make fun of the floods in the Philippines we just have to bear with because it's the truth. it's the governemen and the citizens fault why the floods in the Philippines is just so bad. just like what Dan Brown said in his novel "Manila is the gates of hell" (not verbatim). If you'll read Jim's tweet again, he is even thankful that the air in Sg in back to normal already.
To each his own. But I think the key takeaway here is to be sensitive in times of crisis especially when you're not directly affected. I would have laughed about it if the comments or jokes were made by those living in Singapore and Malaysia. I would have interpreted them as lightening up a sad experience/unfavorable situation.

I agree with you. It's similar to VG joke. Sensitive but he made fun of. In his other tweet, he joked about the flooding saying, There's flood because of suicide plumbers (not verbatim).
please explain how it's a sensitive issue?is it polarizing?are we talking about victims, people with a deep and rich tragic history?was he completely far removed from the situation to the point that he doesn't have the right to comment?
He did say he was there,right?he's actually experiencing it,so it's NOT insensitive to make light of your own experience.that's just ridiculous.
The tweet is yah quite funny but i dont think it is appropriate to make fun or do jokes about someone or something who's going such crisis...it would've been better if he posted a tweet of sympathy or prayer for everyone there...

Im here in Kuala Lumpur and really, truly Hazia talaga dito, we cant go out due to the hazardous haze level. What's wrong with the joke? He is just lightening up the mood. We pinoys are known for that - making fun of calamities and tragedies. Lighten up friends :)
He was not disparaging the place. He was making light of a situation that was real. Was it a sensitive issue? It's not! It just happened. It's not like he joked that the people of Singapore deserved it, caused it or whatever. It's not like he joked about a fat woman enjoying being raped for as long as she was given an apple.

Puhllleassse people! It came to a point where we had to wear mask outside & my eyes were so dry but i dont see anything wrong with Mr. Paredes' tweet! Sabi nga nya hay salamat db?? Dont be so insensitive! There were even memes of the Merlion with a mask on! A Singaporean music video bout the haze was even a big hit! =p
