@Jimparedes: Because of toxic smoke from Indonesia blanketing its neighbors, it s now 'Malaysia... truly HAZIA'
Both jokes on singapore and malaysia are in bad taste!
How would he feel if foreigners make fun of the flooding in Manila? People need to be sensitive in crisis.Workers were either on house arrest or working outdoors even with hazardous air quality.
Oh my god, must we be always politically correct in every step of the way? Anyway to answer your question, I hear people joking about having a newly installed beach house because of the flood-even if they've been aggraviated by it. I know natural disasters aren't suppose to be funny but lighten up a bit, it won't hurt I promise you.
I don't think see anything wrong with Jim's tweet. people from Singapore really suffered from the haze for a few days; and there were pictures of SG covered with smog. and if ever foreigners make fun of the floods in the Philippines we just have to bear with because it's the truth. it's the governemen and the citizens fault why the floods in the Philippines is just so bad. just like what Dan Brown said in his novel "Manila is the gates of hell" (not verbatim). If you'll read Jim's tweet again, he is even thankful that the air in Sg in back to normal already.
To each his own. But I think the key takeaway here is to be sensitive in times of crisis especially when you're not directly affected. I would have laughed about it if the comments or jokes were made by those living in Singapore and Malaysia. I would have interpreted them as lightening up a sad experience/unfavorable situation.
hahaha pati ba naman for SG and Malaysia eh sensitive ka? ok naman yung joke ni mamang jimmy noh, it's not offensive nor done in poor taste. i even liked the Malaysia Truly Hazia. i bet kahit sila din natatawa
I agree with you. It's similar to VG joke. Sensitive but he made fun of. In his other tweet, he joked about the flooding saying, There's flood because of suicide plumbers (not verbatim).
please explain how it's a sensitive issue?is it polarizing?are we talking about victims, people with a deep and rich tragic history?was he completely far removed from the situation to the point that he doesn't have the right to comment?
He did say he was there, right?he's actually experiencing it,so it's NOT insensitive to make light of your own experience.that's just ridiculous.
The tweet is yah quite funny but i dont think it is appropriate to make fun or do jokes about someone or something who's going such crisis...it would've been better if he posted a tweet of sympathy or prayer for everyone there...
tweet of sympathy or prayer? sakuna ba ang naganap? may namatay? may nasaktan? kahit pa nga sabihing "My thoughts go out to the people of Singapore" awkward pa rin pakinggan because it's HAZE and SMOG, people! It's not a calamity. Jeez!
Im here in Kuala Lumpur and really, truly Hazia talaga dito, we cant go out due to the hazardous haze level. What's wrong with the joke? He is just lightening up the mood. We pinoys are known for that - making fun of calamities and tragedies. Lighten up friends :)
He was not disparaging the place. He was making light of a situation that was real. Was it a sensitive issue? It's not! It just happened. It's not like he joked that the people of Singapore deserved it, caused it or whatever. It's not like he joked about a fat woman enjoying being raped for as long as she was given an apple.
Matuto tayong maging discerning sana. Hindi yung makahirit lang ng "That's rude!" or "That's Politically Incorrect!" just for the sake of sounding like we're sensitive and informed.
di ko maintindihan bakit mga pinoy napaka uber sensitive sa mga ganyang topic..pero kayo (isama nyo na ko) naman kung makapanlait abot hanggang outer space...pwede bah? freedom of speech!!!gudness gracious!
i'm sure there were countless people in Singapore who ended up joking about the situation.lighten up,people!try pulling out the sticks up your @$$€$ and laughing a bit.it will do you good.
we're getting to be more uptight and stuck up than the British if we think this joke was in bad form. And at least the British have their sarcasm! Mariosep!
Why is this sensitive??
Puhllleassse people! It came to a point where we had to wear mask outside & my eyes were so dry but i dont see anything wrong with Mr. Paredes' tweet! Sabi nga nya hay salamat db?? Dont be so insensitive! There were even memes of the Merlion with a mask on! A Singaporean music video bout the haze was even a big hit! =p
Jim Paredes is still sense of humor! Loves him!Just like his cousin Jimmy Santos
ReplyDeleteHahaha! Pasok sa banga!!

Agree, you have a point.

DeleteTrying to be funny crossing the borderline of insensitivity is bland and not funny at all.
Deleteits a joke, get over it and move on
Delete@12:16 you must be fun at parties

DeleteJust Sayin..no need to debate about this. :)
Don't worry, di na natin kailangan ang foreigners to make fun of our flood. We're doing it na.
DeletePeople who care too much about what others would say are those with the most shallow types of insecurity.
DeleteWhy so serious? He did not say anything bad naman about Sg. Malay na nila kung ano yung Lion katol!
Deleteagree with june 25,2:26.
DeleteThere are people who simply call foul just to feel better about themselves and appear more educated and sensitive.

ReplyDeletenothing wrong with what he tweeted. that's the reason why we have this phrase called 'pun intended'. should not be a big deal at all.
