    2. gay marriage is the new civil rights movement. much like the black civil rights movement during the 50s and 60s. kaya madaming tao pa especially sa pinas ang uneducated about it. expect lots of bigoted comments to flood this FP entry

      Delete
    3. shows how hateful and ignorant you are.

      Delete
    4. uneducated about it? eh halos lahat ng tao sa Pinas sa parlor ng mga beki nagpapagupit. Beki people are more accepted here than in the US. Of course US liberal media like Times will feature this... but in US convervative media like Fox News they wont show this. Times Magazine is owned by liberal news media CNN.

  2. American mags talaga. Anything to boost sales. In the US context, gay marriage is quite accepted. But let's draw the line between what is allowed and what is something that society is not yet ready for.

    ReplyDelete

    1. It came from you already, 'American' mag. Which means, THAT mag doesn't need to know whether the society you're living is ready or not, it is for America, a country where shows that gender discrimination is over. BTW, erase your imaginary line 'coz in my opinion, the society must first be ready for 'it' before it is allowed.

    3. Hay Anon 12:02, ignorance pervades in your comment. Gay marriage in the US context is nowhere near "quite accepted"! In fact, the population is equally divided between the pro and the anti. Featuring a story about pro gay marriage thereby risks sales figures that could come from the anti gay marriage audience/market. Hence, it is not about boosting sales...more like, making a stance

      Delete
    4. You are ignorant. This is not about sales. The US supreme court is currently holding a hearing on DOMA which is related to granting same-sex marriage. This and same-sex marriage issues have been in the US news for years now.

      Delete
    5. Gender discrimination is over!?!? Are you freaking kidding me!!! Women are still discriminated in job opportunities here!

    6. I agree with you Anonymous April 1, 2013 at 10:28 AM

The two hearings (DOMA and Proposition 8) which took place last week were the reasons these two covers came out.

  5. DISLIKE! Pinipilit ang hindi naman dapat. Let marriage be between a man and a woman, as it is. Kung gustong magsama ng dalawang beki/tibo, let them have a domestic partnership or mag live-in. Wag nang i-distort ang definition ng marriage to suit your selfish interests. Mwah! :)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Super agree ako sayo!!!

      Delete
    2. FYI. Americans LGBT groups are pushing for marriage because if they fall under domestic partnership, there are certain laws that do not permit domestic partners/significant others the same rights that are entitled to a family member. For example, if a gay/lesbian gets terminally sick, their significant others won't be allowed to make decisions in behalf of his/her sick partner or to be given information about the patient.

Madami pa. That's why its very important to them to be given equal rights as to what is granted between two married heterosexuals.

Lastly, TIME is for the international market, hindi siya intended for the Filipino market. Let's not forget there are culture and countries that are very much open to these kind of photos. I don't see this as raunchy, racy or distasteful. It is a clear picture of what is stated in the copy of the cover story -'americans have spoken'. Hindi nila pinagpipilitan sarili nila sa atong kultura, nasa sa atin na if we'd be open minded enough to read what is actually happening in the states.

  8. Life has never been easy for gay people. They just want to express themselves, be equally represented, and have equal opportunities with heteros. Let us not blame them for being social activists as most of them have always been deprived of freedom of expression. THIS MAGAZINE COVER IS NOT ABOUT FORCING PEOPLE TO ACCEPT HOMOSEXUALITY AND GAY RIGHTS -- I SEE IT RATHER AS A PROOF OF DIVERSITY AND INDIVIDUALITY. I am a straight person and I am not disgusted by this cover, not one inch.

    7. Anong di sila nabibigyan ng rights to express themselvs?

      Delete
    8. Anon 1:46 I never said anything about their talents and contribution to the society. When I said "deprived of freedom of expression" -- I was referring to the inability of most gay people to express HOMOSEXUAL ACTS -- which is quite sad as everyone has the right to love and be loved.

      Delete
  9. Let marriage only be between a man and a woman? As far as I know, marriage is supposed to be between two people who are in-love with one another. Madaming heterosexual marriages are without love, pero ok lang sa inyo dahil lalaki at babae pa rin ang kinasal? so saan ang logic nun? For the most part, I believe the main concerns of gays who want gay marriage to be legalized is because as tax payers, they deserve equal rights to marry the person they love. Kung lahat tayo pinagbabayad ng tax, dapat lahat tayo bigyan ng karapatan pakasalan ang taong mahal niya! di naman kailangan catholic church ang magkasal e, it could just be a civil union as long as the state who acknowledges the legality of their union, pwede na yun!

Pano yung inampon mo pwede ding pakasalan kse nagmamahalan kayo? yung teacher at estudaynte nya pwede ding magpakasal kse nagmamahalan despite of their age? At etc etc... Period.

    6. @Anon 5:17
By whose definition? If it's your religion, no contest about that. But the LGBT movement is focused on the LEGAL definition of marriage.

Speaking of "marriage" as a broader concept, who defines that it is solely between a man and a woman? Historically, and even currently, you can find cultures and religions that had polygyny, polyandry, and group marriages. Marriage was never ALWAYS defined as between just a man and a woman. To say it has "always" been like that shows your ignorance.

  10. like. ito ang reality. gay couples kiss. i'm straight and i think the photos were done in a nice decent manner. i can understand kung naeeskandalo yung iba since it's not often that such photos are shown, much more so in such magazines. i salute time magazine for their bravery kahit pa nga maraming tao ang pupuna.

  11. Like. Love depicted in the most natural way should never be censored.

I hope, time will come na hindi na considered as taboo ang union of gay people, that the idea of gay couples kissing is as rude as flipping someone off, kaya kailangan i-censor.

    ReplyDelete
  12. To paraphrase the great Chris Rock, it's plain hilarious/hypocritical to hear people say that gay marriage violates the 'sanctity' of the institution, when that same society takes no issue with shows like The Bachelor or The Bachelorette, where the search for a supposed life partner is turned into nothing short of a televised parlor game.

    ReplyDelete
In other words, walang holy matrimony, marriage lang. They're two different things.

I have no idea what you're trying to say.

What does divorce have to do with gay marriage?

For the record I know gay couples who have been in loving relationships for YEARS. One of them got married in California when it was first allowed years ago. They are one of the most stable, loving, and amazing couples I have known. They are both intelligent, well-educated women and are an asset to the community.

Being monogamous is NOT a trait exclusive to heterosexuals. You say you're not narrow minded, but why are you implying that monogamy is difficult for gay couples?! Shame on you.

Marriage is to procreate as per the bible. How about those who can't bear a child? Those impotent straight couples?? They're not living up to the real essence of marriage. They don't have the right to get married as well? Why can't marriage be because they both love each other no matter what their sexual preferences are, etc? Marriage should be done because of LOVE. THAT SIMPLE.
