American mags talaga. Anything to boost sales. In the US context, gay marriage is quite accepted. But let's draw the line between what is allowed and what is something that society is not yet ready for.
It came from you already, 'American' mag. Which means, THAT mag doesn't need to know whether the society you're living is ready or not, it is for America, a country where shows that gender discrimination is over. BTW, erase your imaginary line 'coz in my opinion, the society must first be ready for 'it' before it is allowed.
Hay Anon 12:02, ignorance pervades in your comment. Gay marriage in the US context is nowhere near "quite accepted"! In fact, the population is equally divided between the pro and the anti. Featuring a story about pro gay marriage thereby risks sales figures that could come from the anti gay marriage audience/market. Hence, it is not about boosting sales...more like, making a stance
You are ignorant. This is not about sales. The US supreme court is currently holding a hearing on DOMA which is related to granting same-sex marriage. This and same-sex marriage issues have been in the US news for years now.
DISLIKE! Pinipilit ang hindi naman dapat. Let marriage be between a man and a woman, as it is. Kung gustong magsama ng dalawang beki/tibo, let them have a domestic partnership or mag live-in. Wag nang i-distort ang definition ng marriage to suit your selfish interests. Mwah! :)
FYI. Americans LGBT groups are pushing for marriage because if they fall under domestic partnership, there are certain laws that do not permit domestic partners/significant others the same rights that are entitled to a family member. For example, if a gay/lesbian gets terminally sick, their significant others won't be allowed to make decisions in behalf of his/her sick partner or to be given information about the patient.
Madami pa. That's why its very important to them to be given equal rights as to what is granted between two married heterosexuals.
Lastly, TIME is for the international market, hindi siya intended for the Filipino market. Let's not forget there are culture and countries that are very much open to these kind of photos. I don't see this as raunchy, racy or distasteful. It is a clear picture of what is stated in the copy of the cover story -'americans have spoken'. Hindi nila pinagpipilitan sarili nila sa atong kultura, nasa sa atin na if we'd be open minded enough to read what is actually happening in the states.
EQUALITY! What's wrong with kissing couples just because same sex sila?? It is LOVE so RESPECT it! If you don't like don't buy the mag or wag nyo tignan! ;)) I'm not gay or lesbian but I RESPECT them because GOD Love us equally! :)) make love not war ❤
Helooow! Pag na grant yan? Ano next na ipipilit nyo? Rights sa simbahan ikasal? Hahahahaha!
Life has never been easy for gay people. They just want to express themselves, be equally represented, and have equal opportunities with heteros. Let us not blame them for being social activists as most of them have always been deprived of freedom of expression. THIS MAGAZINE COVER IS NOT ABOUT FORCING PEOPLE TO ACCEPT HOMOSEXUALITY AND GAY RIGHTS -- I SEE IT RATHER AS A PROOF OF DIVERSITY AND INDIVIDUALITY. I am a straight person and I am not disgusted by this cover, not one inch.
Tama, ako mas madidiri pa ako sa babae o lalaki na nagpakasal dahil lang sa pera at di dahil sa love, ginoglorify pa nga yun minsan sa mga movies at teleserye, hays, the moral standards of some people nga naman.
Anong di sila nabibigyan ng rights to express themselvs?
Anon 1:46 I never said anything about their talents and contribution to the society. When I said "deprived of freedom of expression" -- I was referring to the inability of most gay people to express HOMOSEXUAL ACTS -- which is quite sad as everyone has the right to love and be loved.
Let marriage only be between a man and a woman? As far as I know, marriage is supposed to be between two people who are in-love with one another. Madaming heterosexual marriages are without love, pero ok lang sa inyo dahil lalaki at babae pa rin ang kinasal? so saan ang logic nun? For the most part, I believe the main concerns of gays who want gay marriage to be legalized is because as tax payers, they deserve equal rights to marry the person they love. Kung lahat tayo pinagbabayad ng tax, dapat lahat tayo bigyan ng karapatan pakasalan ang taong mahal niya! di naman kailangan catholic church ang magkasal e, it could just be a civil union as long as the state who acknowledges the legality of their union, pwede na yun!
So kung magpinsan pwede na ding ikasal kse nagmamahalan sila? Pano yung inampon mo pwede ding pakasalan kse nagmamahalan kayo? yung teacher at estudaynte nya pwede ding magpakasal kse nagmamahalan despite of their age? At etc etc... Period.
@Anon 5:17 By whose definition? If it's your religion, no contest about that. But the LGBT movement is focused on the LEGAL definition of marriage.
Speaking of "marriage" as a broader concept, who defines that it is solely between a man and a woman? Historically, and even currently, you can find cultures and religions that had polygyny, polyandry, and group marriages. Marriage was never ALWAYS defined as between just a man and a woman. To say it has "always" been like that shows your ignorance.
like. ito ang reality. gay couples kiss. i'm straight and i think the photos were done in a nice decent manner. i can understand kung naeeskandalo yung iba since it's not often that such photos are shown, much more so in such magazines. i salute time magazine for their bravery kahit pa nga maraming tao ang pupuna.
Like. Love depicted in the most natural way should never be censored.
I hope, time will come na hindi na considered as taboo ang union of gay people, that the idea of gay couples kissing is as rude as flipping someone off, kaya kailangan i-censor.
To paraphrase the great Chris Rock, it's plain hilarious/hypocritical to hear people say that gay marriage violates the 'sanctity' of the institution, when that same society takes no issue with shows like The Bachelor or The Bachelorette, where the search for a supposed life partner is turned into nothing short of a televised parlor game.
In other words, walang holy matrimony, marriage lang. They're two different things.
Ang LBGT in the US, they don't push naman for marriage sa church. Ang gusto lang nilang mangyari ay makuha nila ang same benefits that straight couples get from the Federal government.
me civil unity na naman di ba but not all states.
Yes way to a man and a woman getting married because of money? Yes way to straight couples abandoning their children because they are incapable of supporting them? Tell, meeeeeeeeeee!
This is how we are becoming more casual in immorality. Giving our own definition about love to justify our eniquity. Using God`s name to make it look divine and acceptable.
Wait a sec, how did God get dragged into this conversation? The concept of "marriage" in this debate is not tied to religion. Atheists, agnostics, and individuals who worship religions other than Christianity can get married without acknowledging the "God" you speak of. It's not a solely Christian concept, you know.
Anon 7pm Marriage2 ka den dyan no knows history ng marriage teh? Europe is more conservative. A big rally by anti-gay activists happened in Paris recently. Gay marriage is a contested issue in England and Germany. Gay people have more respect in the Philippines than in North America and Europe from experience. Mas third world kayo than here in the Philz.
Yes indeed! Kadiri pala talaga tignan. Pano kapag bata ang makakita? Ano kayang magiging reaction nila? I'm sure malilito sila. Na not all family consist of a mother, a father, & child. Kundi a mother & another mother... Or a father & another father??? irerevise lahat ng books kse idadagdag na yun! huh??!
ang di ko maintindihan sa inyo, sa marriage lang kayo nakatingin.. right to marriage daw e, ilan ba sa inyo ang maghihiwalay din dahil nagsawa sa asawa / partner.. all because legal ang divorce.. dapat wala divorce, para walang broken family
Hello? Gising ka ba teh? Anong walang broken families kasi walang divorce? Andaming may eskabetche dyan no, and they're all broken families. Both the wife and husband are just married only on "paper" na lang.
married on paper is still married. 5:21.. as married couple, dapat kaya nyo pangatawanan ang 'til death do us part.. kung naka focus ka sa family mo, walang kabit.. divorce is the back-up plan of supposedly mature persons that only satisfies themselves but let the young ones suffer.. and the lawyers richer
I live in a state where gay marriage is legal. I'm ok with this mag cover. I'm all for equality, respect, and love. I think marriage should not be denied to people who are in love and willing to be together for the rest of their lives. People are just selfish saying marriage should just be between a man and a woman. Marriage should be for everyone regardless of their sexual orientation. Being gay is a reality and is staying. It's not a disease that we can cure. People should just have to accept that it is now part of our civilization.
my neighbor's grandma & her adopted son should be given the same right to marry. They're both inlove! The granny is 75 the adopted son is in his late 30's! marriage equality for all! right anon 3:02?
Grabe kayo!
If mga kapwa pinoys must know....Gay Marriage is pertaining to equal rights under the LAW!....its not distorting your religious belief narrow minded person
@Anon 11:25 AM I have no idea what you're trying to say.
What does divorce have to do with gay marriage?
For the record I know gay couples who have been in loving relationships for YEARS. One of them got married in California when it was first allowed years ago. They are one of the most stable, loving, and amazing couples I have known. They are both intelligent, well-educated women and are an asset to the community.
Being monogamous is NOT a trait exclusive to heterosexuals. You say you're not narrow minded, but why are you implying that monogamy is difficult for gay couples?! Shame on you.
You should reeducate or educate yourselves. Kaya pinupush iyan ng LGBT community sa US kasi deprived ang gay couples of so many Federal benefits. Iyong tax nila mas mataas ang kaltas kesa sa straight couples which is unfair.
Hahahahaha!
Anon 7:55. Pag na grant ang same sex marriage dito sa US. Eh di swerte mo? Pwede ka ng ipetition ng jowa mo. Kaya ka siguro tudo support ano? Hahahaha!
If mga kapwa pinoys must know....Gay Marriage is pertaining to equal rights under the LAW!....its not distorting your religious belief narrow minded person
If you are against gay marriage, then don't marry a gay person. THAT SIMPLE. It doesn't affect you really. Mind your own business. What religion says about marriage S*CKS.. Marriage is to procreate as per the bible. How about those who can't bear a child? Those impotent straight couples?? They're not living up to the real essence of marriage. They don't have the right to get married as well? Why can't marriage be because they both love each other no matter what their sexual preferences are, etc? Marriage should be done because of LOVE. THAT SIMPLE.
Haha! I have a hunch that you listened to the audio clip of DOMA and Prop 8 hearings (I did). The lawyers of the proponents of gay marriage mentioned the points you're tryna raise here. Love it and you.
Sa school me sex education nga pala sila...
there is no need for you to explain things like this to your child. it is normal for two lovers to express themselves in the most normal way that they know, and that is through kissing. your child may even be more open minded than you are and already understand that things like these are all happening in the society, in the real world that some bigots are trying to deny and cover up.
I don't like this cover. It's not because the couples are gay... I just think the level of intimacy is a little too much for Time. I'd feel the same way even if it showed heterosexual couples. If it were any other mag, fine. But it doesn't seem appropriate for Time.
eeeewwwwwnesss to the highest level. dko masikmura.

ReplyDeletekung saan sila maligaya. kebs!
ReplyDeleteeewwww kadiri. i lost all respect for Times.
ReplyDeleteI lost all respect for you, sadly. I thought you were intelligent - turns out you aren't. Makes me sad. :-(
DeleteYes indeed! Kadiri pala talaga tignan. Pano kapag bata ang makakita? Ano kayang magiging reaction nila? I'm sure malilito sila. Na not all family consist of a mother, a father, & child. Kundi a mother & another mother... Or a father & another father??? irerevise lahat ng books kse idadagdag na yun! huh??!
DeleteThat's the responsibility of parents - to educate their children.
DeleteIt's "Time."
ReplyDeleteHello? Gising ka ba teh? Anong walang broken families kasi walang divorce? Andaming may eskabetche dyan no, and they're all broken families. Both the wife and husband are just married only on "paper" na lang.
DeleteYES TO DIVORCE! NO TO GAY MARRIAGE! :)
Yup! Pandagdag gulo ulit yan pag nagkataon. Akala naman nila for life na silang magsasama kapag kasal na sila. Pffft!
Deletemarried on paper is still married. 5:21.. as married couple, dapat kaya nyo pangatawanan ang 'til death do us part.. kung naka focus ka sa family mo, walang kabit.. divorce is the back-up plan of supposedly mature persons that only satisfies themselves but let the young ones suffer.. and the lawyers richer
ReplyDeleteEw! I'm not against gay marriage, but this cover? Dislike. Why need to be this vulgar? I bet if man and woman magkikiss for cover eeww din.
ReplyDeleteLOL It's because DOMA and Prop 8 hearings were conducted last week. :-)
DeleteHaha I agree. Di bagay for Time. The issue is not the fact that the couples are gay, it's that the kiss is too sensual for a magazine like Time.
DeleteI'm all for gay relationships. To each his own. But to actually see this cover...well, guess i'm not ready to see kissing gay couples.
ReplyDeleteWell, then cover your eyes...
DeleteHey, it's all right! Acceptance takes stages :)
DeleteI live in a state where gay marriage is legal.
ReplyDeletemy neighbor's grandma & her adopted son should be given the same right to marry. They're both inlove! The granny is 75 the adopted son is in his late 30's! marriage equality for all! right anon 3:02?
Grabe kayo!
ReplyDeleteSorry i'm one of those na hindi pinanood yung 2 movies na sinabi mo.
DeleteSaw those two movies. Gondoh.
DeleteLIKE!
ReplyDeleteIf mga kapwa pinoys must know....Gay Marriage is pertaining to equal rights under the LAW!....its not distorting your religious belief narrow minded person
ReplyDeleteno narrow minded person here..
Deleteokay, if this gay marriage comes up with a clause that you cannot divorce your partner, be monogamous, will you still be up for it?
marriage should promote a family, not normalize separation that would not be good to the future generation
equal rights should not satisfy the present.. but also the future habitants of this planet
@Anon 11:25 AM
DeleteI have no idea what you're trying to say.
Anon 11:25. Natumbok mo.
DeleteYou should reeducate or educate yourselves. Kaya pinupush iyan ng LGBT community sa US kasi deprived ang gay couples of so many Federal benefits. Iyong tax nila mas mataas ang kaltas kesa sa straight couples which is unfair.
Hahahahaha!
DeleteYes I'm joining talaga 'cause my dyowa is in California. Kasad.
DeleteAnon 7:55. Pag na grant ang same sex marriage dito sa US. Eh di swerte mo? Pwede ka ng ipetition ng jowa mo. Kaya ka siguro tudo support ano? Hahahaha!
DeleteIf mga kapwa pinoys must know....Gay Marriage is pertaining to equal rights under the LAW!....its not distorting your religious belief narrow minded person
ReplyDeleteIf you are against gay marriage, then don't marry a gay person.
ReplyDeleteHaha! I have a hunch that you listened to the audio clip of DOMA and Prop 8 hearings (I did). The lawyers of the proponents of gay marriage mentioned the points you're tryna raise here. Love it and you.
Sa school me sex education nga pala sila...
ReplyDeleteI see it as something not to be disgusted with.
ReplyDeletethere is no need for you to explain things like this to your child. it is normal for two lovers to express themselves in the most normal way that they know, and that is through kissing. your child may even be more open minded than you are and already understand that things like these are all happening in the society, in the real world that some bigots are trying to deny and cover up.
ReplyDeleteAy hindi, dyan ka nagkakamali. Siguro wala ka pang anak kaya nasasabi mo yan. Gawin mo, ipakita mo yang malaseang magazine sa isang bata, tignan mo kung anong magiging reaction ha? Ng malaman mo.
DeleteSad to say. the child responds to things also varies from how they are raised at home. BUT not in all cases. Although it has a lot of impact
I don't like this cover. It's not because the couples are gay... I just think the level of intimacy is a little too much for Time. I'd feel the same way even if it showed heterosexual couples. If it were any other mag, fine. But it doesn't seem appropriate for Time.
