Ibalik natin sa kanya ang tanong... does he practice pinoy pride by saying this??? He couldve pointed out these things in a positive way.. like "things that Filipino should know about fashion" para naman hindi magmukhang tinatapakan nya or to offend ang mga Pilipino... im just saying this not to defend anything/anyone.. but this concept/principle is applicable in general... just saying...
He was my classmate in gs and hs. He's come a looong way. But his pov was kinda offensive. Pero he just pointed out the obvious that our local designers are snotty copy cats. Maybe he could have worded it differently....
eto classic case of clash of culture, the perception of "high" vs "low" fashion.
Gets mo? Ikaw ang dagdag kahihiyan sa mga pinoy!
What's wrong is that the plural of information is still information. The word is an uncountable noun. Just like data, luggage, furniture, and equipment. You shouldn't add "s" to indicate plurality.
@ 11:23 - Lope Navo, is that YOU? HAHAHA!
Only in the pelepens
isang malaking tumfact!!!! it's now what you know, it's WHO know dito sa Pinas! kahit wala talent basta friend ang editor sa mag/photog/stylist/fashion people, etc.,sila ang sikat! although may mga magagaling naman talaga kaso nasasapawan ng sikat lang.
To the local designers explore our country get inspiration from the culture our culture hindi yung todo tingla sa mga big time designers to the point na copy nalang hanggang dun nlng waley
Yung time lang ata ni Marcos napangalagaan yung mga artist because of his wife Imelda. Just read about that.
You can comprehend his message and understand that he has horrible grammar too! Magtagalog ka nalang kasi lope navo napaghahalata pagiging pretentious mo! Ang yabang pa! Self important wala naman laman ang utak! Empty kaya mas noisy!
May mga stores naman dito ng high-end brands...Filipinos like to shop. Yung ibang sinabi niya may point naman. Sobrang pangit lang ng delivery to the point na personalan na.....due to that his posts become pointless and now becomes just rants and more rants
Anong "deliberation" of words, te? Baka "delivery" of words.
wrong grammar & wrong use of terms especially 'xerox copy'. it should've been photo copy 'coz Xerox is a brand of a copier like HP and Canon and Brother...am I right or am I correct? congrats to Ariella Arida by the way! i have a feeling na sya mananalo this year sa Ms. U
Since xerox is popular brand for a photocopier, i guess it's acceptable to use that word as a term for photo copying. Another example brand is the Band-aid. We used the term band aid in fact we really mean adhesive bandage. Even the word escalator is used to be a trademark name of Otis Elevator Company. Read more about GENERIC TRADEMARK here>>> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generic_trademark
Yeah, i am not a Grammar Nazi and I believe I am not that eloquent, too. I am afraid na medyo may mali mali din english ko that I typed above. Ang kinaiinisan ko lang why just not stick on the status quo to tell your thoughts about the post above kaysa magmamagaling ka pa sa grammar eh medyo off naman talaga for trying to correct. It is like pointing your fingers with dirty nails. tsk tsk tsk.
As my comment about the post of Lope Navo, eh ganun talaga. truth hurts. He just put it into words what we Filipinos really are in the fashion industry. Lahat naman are free to have their opinions. :D
Mr. Lope Navo said that being a Filipino is embarrassing... and that "Filipino means to have no respect in other people's hard work, being Filipino means having no imagination at all." check out his fb people.
Xerox is correct, simply because many people all over the world use that word when referring to photocopying. In North America, Xerox generally refers to photocopy. It is the same thing with Colgate and Frigidaire where they are used as generic names (in many parts of the world) instead of brand names.
some of his observations are correct but i wish he didn't use general terms. not everyone is into fashion. more importantly, not every Filipino cares about fashion.
Exactly the reason why a Filipino with full of knowledge in real fashion should leave the country and pursue it in the fashion capitals(london, milan, paris, new york, tokyo). Majority of the Filipinos don't care about fashion and all the lucrative labels out there, leaving this minority group of deluded socialistas to create their own fashion arena with a little less knowledge of the real deal. That's why most of the fashion people in the Philippine circuit are from the wealthy families of celebrities and other members of alta sociedad. And they keep on imposing what's hot and what's not as if they have the legit authority (Imagine raymond gutierrez, liz uy, tim yap?like seriously and the overrated madness over antm). In terms of models, we barely find the global filipina model beauty coz of the mentality that caucasians/white is the epitome of beauty, resulting to manila becoming a city that won't run out of foreign models. As to the local designers, yeah he's very right. If you're an obsessed follower of every fashion week and every designer, the moment you checked on a collection of a local designer you would blatantly notice the exact replica of a look from a famous label. They wouldn't even daresay that it's their inspiration, instead they make up stories behind the collection just to patch the distressed situation. Hay Pinas! nakakaumay na!
I don't agree with #4 dahil unang-una, walang kinalaman ang skin tone preference ng isang tao sa estado ng fashion industry ng bansa niya. pangalawa, other brown asians especially Thai people are equally obsessed with having a white skin. Even Indians have fixation with white skin. Maski nga yung mga sadyang mapuputi na since birth eh like Koreans and Japanese, mas patok ang beauty products at make up na may pampaputi.
who is lope navo? i love fashion, sobra. but i would be honest di ko siya kilala. si stephen gan alam ko naman kahit papano. may tama yung mga sinabi niya, pero di lahat.
that's all thank you, good night, have a good one.
Kulang pa yung 5 reasons niya dapat may 6: NO RELEVANCE AND ALL WHINE.
2:25 Yeah right. Just like the thousands of "fashion photographerS, painterS, writerS, and fashion bloggerS based in New York City," s/he's not really that remarkable.
there's truth in his statements, but c'mon, can you get any more derogatory???? it's like saying filipinos are the worst human beings in the whole wide world...too much hatred in your heart there bud?
Lope Navo may be based in New York City and i agree that there is truth in what he said but what right has he to generalize and put the Filipinos down the way he did? we are already buried so deep in Sh*t the least he could do is support his OWN KIND. so what if we don't have our own version of those international fashion glossies he mentioned nor those high end stores? exactly the reason why he is ranting & raving, we have none of those because we are a 3RD WORLD country. we should be preoccupied with more important matters, like our economy, or ridding the country of these darn corrupt politicians. I am not deluded nor am I narrow minded. i am more hopeful of my country, and would rather not bash my own EVEN IF i am aware of all the problems & shortcomings.
Whoever you are, no matter how much you hate the philippines it will never change the fact that you are just a "photographer"! Insignificant and a waste of human flesh! You don't contribute anything positive for your country so just shut up and keep out!
Another case of pointing the dirt onto someone without checking your own dirty nails. Whoever you are, the reason why true blue filipino fashion artists wanna leave this country is the fact that you exist. You, just like any other Filipinos treat photographers like "just a photographer" no matter how many achievements you gained. In the fashion industry, photographers make or break a career of any model and designer giving them the authority of claiming the biggest contribution to the industry. If I may ask, do you even know steven meisel, mert&marcus, inez &vinoodh, terry richardson, patrick demarchelier, and whatnot?
Hahahaha the world will not end if there is no fashion industry! Poor you! No substance at all feeling mo ang talino mo na because you know people in this superficial industry! Hahahaha ikaka sarap ba ng buhay ng mga pilipino if they know the names of those photographers??? There are more important matters for my country than you whining about filipino "artists" mas concerned ako sa mga teachers, doctors those who have important things to do than appreciate you're so called standard of beauty! You can't tell me to respect his craft cuz for me WALANG substance just like you! Hahaha trying hard lang! Try harder!
Exactly te 3:00 PM. "Fashion" is such a superficial industry. I'd rather appreciate those in the sciences, research, health, engineering, etc. industries because these people do REAL work that REALLY benefits people. Fashion = dress up, take photos, walk on some stage. Ho-hum.
To be honest, I don't wanna brag my credentials but I graduated with a BS in NURSING from one of the prestigious schools in Manila.I'm an RM, RN.
Please look up fashion in in the dictionary! Haha if you agree with him then you agree na you have no brain no money no talent no pride no respect no dignity you must be ashamed to be filipino too haha magsama kayong bitter self important shallow "wanna bes"
Mr. Lope Navo said that being a Filipino is embarrassing... and that "Filipino means to have no respect in other people's hard work, being Filipino means having no imagination at all." check out his fb people.
Truth hurts! I agree with what he said for the most part. Especially, yung whitening lotion. Filipinos are so insecure about their color. They think being brown skinned is a disadvantage. For some reason, most Filipinos are having a hard time looking beyond their skin color. Add the fact that media and businesses make it worst. Even Belo and other skin clinics have whitening treatments that people are so blinded in to doing. The past 3 beauty queens are brown skinned and they all stood out and made a mark. This alone should make all of us be proud of our brown skin. I just don't get why Filipino want to be white?
That's what he believes, ang tanong lang e anong ginagawa niya to change it? You become great when you are the catalyst. Eto walang effect. He will go down in history as "one of those".
Well, this country is still a third world country so what does he expect. It is true that we don't have design schools here, and no arts school for acting, music and dance. We don't have a journalism school either.
To the fashion artists, this is a big thing. This is their passion. Their JOB. Their life. Maybe for you it's nothing, but for them it's everything. It goes the same way din naman po if tatanungin mo sila regarding your field of expertise. To artists, being a simple working professional is synonymous to mediocrity, thus they see excellence n the success of a CREATIVE mind.
Although he has some good points,I hope he checks his grammar first prior to posting ,for a better impact. Also,I think we do have a Balenciaga here in the Philippines,in Greenbelt.
We do need to educate a lot of our designers with some taste. There's so much crystals involved and these twirly stuff that's so middle eastern. This mesh fish net covered with crystals is so overused! All the pageant contestants are wearing them! That alone proves Gans point. Designers of no taste. Chandelier looking gowns...scarryyyyyyyyyy.
There's always truth to everyone's opinion. I agree on the snotty people in fashion- but isn't it the same case for all fashion circles around the world? As long as there are distinctions- elite, haute couture, RTW etc., there is obvious discrimination. We have vogue&most mags mentioned- but if you don't have it all does that mean Pinoys do not have taste? In the end, love for country is embedded in the soul&how much assistance you give your fellowmen. Bad mouthing Pinoys is so wrong. Especially if you're Pinoy.(¤eufiebaby¤)
let us go beyond grammar and understand where this person is coming from. i mean, seriously, english was never our domain tongue in the first place.
lope may have gone gutter level in describing Philippine Fashion, but come to think of it, we have become a nation of plagiarists! from the senate, to the supreme court and now, long standing but never discussed: our own fashion sense - if you still need some convincing, let us back track FP's previous postings to realize that there is an abundance of copycats amongst us.
our artists/fashion designers should take this opportunity to re examine on how they want to go about in the fashion business? hopefully the creative juices, original and unique flows over greed, profit and lost of integrity.
Thank you very much for that beautiful question and good morning to all of you (sabay kaway at kembot)
Seems like Filipinos are always good in following fads. Doesnt care much about originality and quality as long as they can say they are in the bandwagon. Sadly, this goes across industries and not just fashion.
Filipinos need to wake up. Most points are true - but should have not written in an INSULTING manner.
I agree. Try hard masyado mga Filipino designers. Some have potential but they often fall into the copycat trap. Once they become a name, nawawala na ang creativity at nagiging tacky na.
We really need class and a serious overhaul to our fashion industry. We're filipinos, why should we look to the western hemisphere para sa mga ideas! Wala tayong spring o winter mga 'te!
Wake up call to everyone from designers to fashionistas and not only that industry. We need to come up with originality and we need to support original home grown ideas and products.
partly agree.majority of pinoys are so americanized. but i still believe pinoys are uniquely talented among asians. i am every inch proud to be pinoys kaso younger generations of designers are yielding to be copycats.asan na yung talent natin to be creative and innovative?if we could only tap on to our God given talent then we could be well ahead in terms of arts and fashion.kaso, let's face it, majority are still bounded by western culture.
in some part i agree! but! ang ikinaloloka ko why have "someone's own sentiments" be his own sentiment too??? nakakaloka! sya ba ang spokesperson ni Gan??? sya ba ang alter ego ni Gan??? Too bad he can never change the FACT na HE IS STILL A FILIPINO!!!
And more embarrassing eh he him self is doing what he just said!
Anong year na ba? 2013 dba? Did he run away from Manila? No. It's on how you handle things. If you love the philippines and wants the fashion industry here to develop, you'd stay and share your knowledge para mapaunlad ang fashion industry dito. Pera gusto mo boploks.
I never use whitening products I embrace my brown skin ang problem yung lope mukang madumi ang pagka brown kaya insecure siya sa mapuputi! Hahahaha
Very true. One would think that these delusional IT girls from Manila are the goddesses of Fashion. Josko! Porke't half breed, maganda na?!
Best examples would be the so-called IT girls. They act as if they are THE fashion authority in the Philippines.
With regard to the "creative" team of magazines, how can one believe in the likes of Liz Uy, Raymond Gutierrez, etc? What credit do they have? Fashion na agad? Josko!
And the MERE mention of FILIPINO blood abroad, Filipinos rejoice without even thinking that these "filipinos" don't even have any idea about their birth country. They can't even sing LUPANG HINIRANG. Will we be proud of them right away?
Lastly, all these comments and perception about Filipinos having no national identity still hold true to JOSE RIZAL's NOLI ME TANGERE and EL FILIBUSTERISMO.
They are models? Models wear what are asked of them to wear! gravity ka
That's the saddest part actually. They're considered as MODELS here. Hello???? Porke may lahi model na agad, porke maganda model na agad. Models don't have to be pretty!! They should have the distinct look that can gracefully showcase a dress/photo. Well, I only liked one model who's been working her a** off here in manila, and she's Ria Bolivar. I could say that she has the qualities of a real model, apparently she's underrated maybe because she's not as white or as pretty as the It Girls KUNO!
He shouldn't generalize all the Filipinos. He's saying we are the lowest species om earth! He has a point with our well known Fashion Designers but then if you think of it,uunahin pa ba ng ating mahihirap na kababayan ang FASHION kung wala ng pangkain para makabili lang ng branded clothes?. All we care about is that we have something to wear everyday branded or not. AND there are A LOT of talented Filipinos who are not as popular as those who are published in magazines and newspapers. Hating is not helping. Just saying.
In Europe/NewYork, makikilala ka kapag may distinct sa craft mo kahit nobody ka, as long as you'll work hard for it.
In the Philippines, when we talk about FASHION is it often synonymous to the elite circle - the IT girls & boys etc. If there's a particular issue concerning this industry, that is probably the kind of priority given to fashion models that are of foreign blood. Seems that the pure Filipino models are being overshadowed by the foreign ones - from runway to TVCs to magazine pages etc. Funny because most of these "foreign ones" doesn't even have ample experience in the world of fashion.
Parang may pinaghuhugutan? Since ginenaralize na nya and pinoy sha, kasama sha dun sa mga pinagsasabi nya. The last laugh is on him kse pinoy din sha.
PHOTOGRAPHER LANG SIYA. It's not even comparable to other professions like a DOCTOR, LAWYER, BANKER, ENGINEER, FINANCIAL ANALYST, etc. who DO REAL WORK that REALLY benefit people.
Seriously, this country has other more pressing issues to attend to. Have fun pressing your shutter button every now and then, kid. It won't be surprising if you grow old alone.
May pagkakamai nga ho siya sa way n pagsabi niya. Pero hindi naman yun nagbibigay daan para sabihin mong PHOTOGRAPHER LANG, not even comparable to DOCTORS, etc. It's his chosen career and he's making a life out of it, so respect it.
I think Lope Navo is just frustrated.. He is merely venting. Although he could've used a little euphism and sarcasm. Well Stephen Gan is really a driving force in the US fashion circle and he has the ability to hire more pinay models. For example Monique in her shows don't use pinay models. Sad but true. And it i believe it is an endemic thing that a magazine covers one of its editors no? I'm sure even the fictional Miranda Priestly would not approve! Bore someone with your inutile magazine covers..
It came from someone na with a "hey look at me now" attitude. Or even si Stephen Gan at his level..i think hindi din sya ganun ka tanga or ka crude to say something like that. I must say na Philippine fashion industry is the last thing on his mind.
Kinda weird lang na si Lope, umuuwi pa here to shoot some editorials...e kung hate na hate nya dito e sana wag na sya bumalik para magaan ang kalooban nya. Hindi ba?
I did some checking, mukha naman sikat siya....pero kahit totoo ang mga sinabi niya medyo nakakalungkot lang na ang sariling lahi niya niyurakan niya... sana tinira niya ang fashion industry without hurting the mother country that made him as he is right now....
very hurtful comments from Lope Navo, but slightly true. can you blame him for expressing his own opinion. he has the guts to trash talk because his career is in New York, not here. that's what happens when someone's career skyrockets to the milky way, they never learn how to look back. too bad he can't in any way eradicate Philippines from his birth certificate.
Kng totoo man tong mga sinabi mo? Nkatulong naman b??? This things shud have been said in a constructive way. It seems to me that lope navo hates being a filipino. Un lng.
This Lope Navo guy flopped in New York. He used to be a graphic artist, saka nag-photog. His works "stood out" and napansin temporarily sa international scene because they're overphotoshopped and different but hindi din tumagal coz nobody really likes over-photoshopped photos. So yun nagflop. Ngayon, nagkakalat dito sa Pilipinas. And kahit he used to be NY-based, di sya kilala like BJ Pascual, Mark and Doc.
Don't worrt, Manong Lope. We are as embarrassed about you as you are about being Filipino. The only difference between you and us is that we know who we are as Filipinos, with all our so-called faults you so merrily enumerated. I wonder if you can honestly say the same about yourself. Now, kindly remove your fishy self from our collective presence.
Dear Lope-Whoever-on-Earth-You-Are, First off, we dont know you. Your name doesnt even ring a bell. Not because we're not fashion aficionados just like what you claim you are, but because you're just another number in a thousand of your kind. Second, didn't your mother even tell you that it's not what you say but it's how you say it? Yes, you are entitled to your own pov but again, it's how you say it. Lastly, is this how you're trying to make a difference considering your achievements? Why don't you make the Philippines a 1st world country then? Maybe then we might reconsider being more concerned about fashion. And whatever you say, you cant change the fact that you are a Filipino and you're left with no choice but to suck it all up.
he's quite gaining a name in NY Fashion scene. You just don't know him for a reason that you're one of the bitter mindless(in fashion) Filipino who knows nothing much about what they're talking about. Anyway, I too didn't like his way of ranting all that stuff but he has a point.
google mo nalang teh... You are the id**T. ang mga kilala mo hanggang Ge*gi** W*ls** lang ata... He is very successful in his field and world class cya.
see! how filipinos are! they critcize lagi! porket mali grammar, maitim, pangit siya, wala siyang karapatan etc,. ang hirap sa atin hindi natin matanggap ang katotohanan! minsan kayalangan tingnan natin ang sarili natin bago manghusga! walang perpekto. sinulat niya yan, opinion niya yan, binasa niyo nasaktan ang ego niyo, bitter kayo. pero minsan tanungin natin sa sarili natin meron ba siyang tama, or reasons bakit niya nasabi yon? proud akong pinoy! pero masakit man sabihin nagbubulagbulagan tayo minsan! hindi tayo lagi ang the best! wala pa tayong napapatunayan! may mapapatunayan tayo kung magsisimula sa atin! opinion ko to! hindi rin ako perpekto pero minsan kaylangan kayong pag sabihan. mali ang sinabi niya di siya proud na maging pinoy! choice niya yon! paki alam natin! let us be optimist wag tingnan ang mali at i criticize...! opinion lang!
Korek!!!! Hirap kc satin masyado taung ma pride!kahit totoo kung nasaktan ang ego, magagalit na dun sa tao!pero pag tayo mismo gumawa/nagsabi nun, deadma lang at sasabihing 'im entitled to my own opinion'!
Remember Lope kahit ibilad mo sa france ang skin mo or mababad sa lamig ng snow never mo maaalis na Pinoy ka....supposedly, being the more successful pinoy sana Constructive ang criticism mo....may tama ka sa ibang points pero yung karamihan pagkamuhi sa sarili mong nationality, try sharing that with other nationalities, magmumukha kang ingrato at nakakahiya....very wrong na ikahiya ang bansang kinalakihan mo,you can escape manila but you cant escape who you are even if gayahin si jinky oda sa pag gluthatione
He is right about the skin whitening and foreign models obsession. It is more of a sickness now, perpetuated by pseudo-doctors like Belo. But about fashion in general....this country is still too poor to think about fashion. The vast majority of people are pre-occupied on where to get their next meal that they can’t really afford to think about what is going on in the world of fashion.
nega naman! Michael Cinco, Josie Natori, Cary Santiago, hindi mo kilala? aralin mo muna ang facts at huwag gumawa ng sweeping statements..so irresponsible.. and Pinoy Pride starts from yourself. shame on you!!!!
based on the twitter exchange nila ni Rico Robles, i too, want to understand where this Lope Navo's hate is coming from. he's even resulting to name calling with Joyce Ramirez. ibang level ang galit ng lolo mo! nawawala sa wisyo. hambog ang peg!
I'm sure inaapi to dati. Bitter sa fashion industry sa pilipinas kasi di siya maka fit in dati kasi he's an ugly jejemon studying near the slums kaya nayon na may narating na eh feeling akala mo kung sino. Ang itim niya kaya...
Yung iba dyan magbabalat sibuyas na naman. #PinoyFried
ReplyDeleteso true naman talaga, so don't be sensitive guys.
Deleteda hu etong hitad na to?!
DeleteParang Dona Victorina ang peg...always bashing the natives to prove the superiority of the whites...
DeleteIbalik natin sa kanya ang tanong... does he practice pinoy pride by saying this??? He couldve pointed out these things in a positive way.. like "things that Filipino should know about fashion" para naman hindi magmukhang tinatapakan nya or to offend ang mga Pilipino... im just saying this not to defend anything/anyone.. but this concept/principle is applicable in general... just saying...
DeleteHe was my classmate in gs and hs. He's come a looong way. But his pov was kinda offensive. Pero he just pointed out the obvious that our local designers are snotty copy cats. Maybe he could have worded it differently....
ReplyDeleteNot everyone! Wag lahatin! Im sure it also happens to other countries but we have heaps of talented designers here also!
Deleteeto classic case of clash of culture, the perception of "high" vs "low" fashion.
DeleteLope Navo: I don't know where you guys get your INFORMATIONS! - Haha! Lakas maka-Gretchen & Marjorie Barretto ng Unggoy na toh!
ReplyDeleteTomoh! Hahaha!
DeleteAgree! Informations daw!!! Sobrang daming informationSSS! Kaloka
DeleteWhats wrong with the word INFORMATIONS? Its a plural word.
Gets mo? Ikaw ang dagdag kahihiyan sa mga pinoy!
DeleteWhat's wrong is that the plural of information is still information. The word is an uncountable noun. Just like data, luggage, furniture, and equipment. You shouldn't add "s" to indicate plurality.
DeleteWhat??????! FYI, Information is a collective (group) noun, and has no plural form.
Delete@anon 2:17pm
Deletedi kasali ang data, dahil ang singular form nng DATA eh DATUM
@ 11:23 - Lope Navo, is that YOU? HAHAHA!
Deleteinformation is singular and plural. although english prof ko noon pointed out na pieces of information is also considered plural form ng information.
Preach it Lope Navo.
ReplyDeleteLope Navo has some valid points except for parts that are totally insulting.
ReplyDeleteI soooooooooo agree with what he posted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteFilipino ba talaga yang sira tuktok na yan? Masyado nang mayabang. Hay! Tignan na lng natin kung ano magaganap sa kanya after this.
ReplyDeleteLook him up.
Only in the pelepens
ReplyDeleteisang malaking tumfact!!!! it's now what you know, it's WHO know dito sa Pinas! kahit wala talent basta friend ang editor sa mag/photog/stylist/fashion people, etc.,sila ang sikat! although may mga magagaling naman talaga kaso nasasapawan ng sikat lang.
ReplyDeleteTo the local designers explore our country get inspiration from the culture our culture hindi yung todo tingla sa mga big time designers to the point na copy nalang hanggang dun nlng waley
Yung time lang ata ni Marcos napangalagaan yung mga artist because of his wife Imelda. Just read about that.
ReplyDeleteTrue that! Even the local movie industry was at its finest at that time!
Deletekasi kailangan aliwin amg mga tao para itago ang totoong nangyayari. art was used as a diversion. para hindi malaman ng tao ang pang-aabuso. ang matinding corruption. ang mga human rights violations. ang pagpigil sa press freedom. ginamit ng mga marcos ang paggawa ng magagandang pelikula at iba pang pagsuporta sa "art" as makeup. to hide what was really underneath it all.
Deletei agree with you ateng.
Deleteanon 1:32 aM, you may be right pero after marcos, wala ng make up make up no? harapan na pangloloko sa mga pilipino.
DeleteI surprisingly agree with him. Our fashion industry sucks. Puro kopya, dominated by trying hard IT girls. yuck.
ReplyDeletedi nman lahat!
DeleteLAHAT! Sino hinde?
DeleteEeerrrhhhh horrible grammar Lope Navo!
ReplyDeleteunderstand the message the author was trying to convey.
Deletebut I guess comprehension is something you miserably do not have.
You can comprehend his message and understand that he has horrible grammar too! Magtagalog ka nalang kasi lope navo napaghahalata pagiging pretentious mo! Ang yabang pa! Self important wala naman laman ang utak! Empty kaya mas noisy!
DeleteI cannot comprehend a message crafted in lousy English. FAIL!
DeleteTama naman sinasabi nya.
ReplyDeleteTama ba yung sinabi niya informations? Dapat information lang without 'S' kakahiya much
DeleteMay mga stores naman dito ng high-end brands...Filipinos like to shop. Yung ibang sinabi niya may point naman. Sobrang pangit lang ng delivery to the point na personalan na.....due to that his posts become pointless and now becomes just rants and more rants
ReplyDeletehis right in some points but so-so harsh deliberation of words. maybe because he is establish in the fashion world
ReplyDeleteHe's not HIS.. establish ka pa hahaha
Deletegrammar grammar minsan teh
hahahaha..... naloka ko sau 1:50am
DeleteAnong "deliberation" of words, te? Baka "delivery" of words.
Deletedefinitely agree for #5 reason. a bit racist but true. most of the people in philippine fashion are self serving just like the congress.
ReplyDelete;)
Racist? Wala namang binanggit about race.
ReplyDeleteAmen!
ReplyDeleteWho is Lope Navo?
ReplyDeleteGood question. Who is this piece of shit?
Deletewrong grammar & wrong use of terms especially 'xerox copy'. it should've been photo copy 'coz Xerox is a brand of a copier like HP and Canon and Brother...am I right or am I correct? congrats to Ariella Arida by the way! i have a feeling na sya mananalo this year sa Ms. U
ReplyDeletexerox copy is already acceptable. it is define as a copy made by a xerographic printer.
DeleteYou are partly correct. The Oxford dictionary already included the word 'xerox' which means, as what you've said, photocopy. :)
DeleteSince xerox is popular brand for a photocopier, i guess it's acceptable to use that word as a term for photo copying. Another example brand is the Band-aid. We used the term band aid in fact we really mean adhesive bandage. Even the word escalator is used to be a trademark name of Otis Elevator Company. Read more about GENERIC TRADEMARK here>>> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generic_trademark
DeleteYeah, i am not a Grammar Nazi and I believe I am not that eloquent, too.
same with Ketchup/catsup
Mr. Lope Navo said that being a Filipino is embarrassing... and that "Filipino means to have no respect in other people's hard work, being Filipino means having no imagination at all." check out his fb people.
Deletefine, congrats to her na rin and good luck sa Miss Universe!
this person doesnt matter at all, grammar pa lang triple wrong na! Next...
ReplyDeleteOuch.
ReplyDeletehe has a point.. but really... do you have to drag Stephen Gan to this? Own up your opinion, Lope Navo and.. grammar check, please.. lol
ReplyDeleteIt must be "photocopy" not a "xerox copy". Xerox is a brand of photocopying machine. Poor Lope, low IQ.
ReplyDeletePhotocopy and xerox copy are all the same. Ikaw yata ang poor IQ teh. Research ka about generic trademark sabay laklak ng iodized salt.
DeleteXerox copy is wrong
Delete"Xerox" is a genericized trademark. :P
DeleteXerox is correct, simply because many people all over the world use that word when referring to photocopying. In North America, Xerox generally refers to photocopy. It is the same thing with Colgate and Frigidaire where they are used as generic names (in many parts of the world) instead of brand names.
Deletesome of his observations are correct but i wish he didn't use general terms. not everyone is into fashion. more importantly, not every Filipino cares about fashion.
ReplyDeleteExactly the reason why a Filipino with full of knowledge in real fashion should leave the country and pursue it in the fashion capitals(london, milan, paris, new york, tokyo).
Deletevery well said anon 1:29
DeleteI don't agree with #4 dahil unang-una, walang kinalaman ang skin tone preference ng isang tao sa estado ng fashion industry ng bansa niya. pangalawa, other brown asians especially Thai people are equally obsessed with having a white skin. Even Indians have fixation with white skin. Maski nga yung mga sadyang mapuputi na since birth eh like Koreans and Japanese, mas patok ang beauty products at make up na may pampaputi.
that's all thank you, good night, have a good one.
#bbpgold #chos
REALITY BITES. TRUTH HURTS. UGLY TRUTH.
ReplyDeleteKulang pa yung 5 reasons niya dapat may 6: NO RELEVANCE AND ALL WHINE.
ReplyDeleteWho is lope navo
ReplyDeleteLope Navo is a fashion photographer, painter, writer, and fashion blogger based in New York City.
Deleteso, he or she?
Delete2:25 Yeah right. Just like the thousands of "fashion photographerS, painterS, writerS, and fashion bloggerS based in New York City," s/he's not really that remarkable.
ReplyDeletethere's truth in his statements, but c'mon, can you get any more derogatory???? it's like saying filipinos are the worst human beings in the whole wide world...too much hatred in your heart there bud?
DeleteLope Navo may be based in New York City and i agree that there is truth in what he said but what right has he to generalize and put the Filipinos down the way he did? we are already buried so deep in Sh*t the least he could do is support his OWN KIND. so what if we don't have our own version of those international fashion glossies he mentioned nor those high end stores? exactly the reason why he is ranting & raving, we have none of those because we are a 3RD WORLD country. we should be preoccupied with more important matters, like our economy, or ridding the country of these darn corrupt politicians. I am not deluded nor am I narrow minded. i am more hopeful of my country, and would rather not bash my own EVEN IF i am aware of all the problems & shortcomings.
DeleteLesson from this??? BUY PILIPINO
ReplyDeleteWhat is a "Pilipino" product? Even our culture is just a mix of Western and Asian heritage. Accept it, walang "original" sa Pilipinas.
DeleteThe ugly truth!
ReplyDeleteWhoever you are, no matter how much you hate the philippines it will never change the fact that you are just a "photographer"! Insignificant and a waste of human flesh! You don't contribute anything positive for your country so just shut up and keep out!
ReplyDeleteAnother case of pointing the dirt onto someone without checking your own dirty nails.
Deletekung maka Google wagas!
DeleteHahahaha the world will not end if there is no fashion industry! Try harder!
NO.
DeleteExactly te 3:00 PM.
Kaya don't call me "walang substance"
Delete---
Please look up fashion in in the dictionary!
ReplyDeleteTruth hurts!
ReplyDeletei totally agree with you.
DeleteIt is an Asian mentality. Not just Filipinos'. We are too hard on ourselves.
ReplyDeleteThat's what he believes, ang tanong lang e anong ginagawa niya to change it? You become great when you are the catalyst. Eto walang effect. He will go down in history as "one of those".
ReplyDeleteBlame it sa mga social climbers lol trying hard "it girls"
ReplyDeleteHe would have been credible without being rude.
ReplyDeleteHe has some good points but he seems so hateful, arrogant and very shallow ugly brown monkey.
ReplyDeletetruth hurts. hehe..
ReplyDeleteWell, this country is still a third world country so what does he expect. It is true that we don't have design schools here, and no arts school for acting, music and dance. We don't have a journalism school either.
ReplyDeleteWe have design schools here FYI. However, more often than not only the rich can afford.
DeleteMaybe us Filipino dnt put fashion on our top priorities, pero at least we are conscious on our grammar wen we want to point things.
ReplyDeleteHaha..
Feeling intellectual kasi tong lope na to! Noone would even care if he will disappear! Hahaha such a disgrace! Shallow "artist" wanna be!
ReplyDeleteagree!!!!
DeleteAlthough he has some good points,I hope he checks his grammar first prior to posting ,for a better impact. Also,I think we do have a Balenciaga here in the Philippines,in Greenbelt.
ReplyDeleteso what if his grammar is wrong... doesn't make his statement anything less
Delete3:17 It does te! Mas may impact and finesse kung perfect ang grammar niya.
Deletefor a better impact?? check ur grammar too
ReplyDeleteWe do need to educate a lot of our designers with some taste.
ReplyDeleteBad taste creates many more millionaires than good taste. - money is difficult nowadays so I might as well pretend to have bad taste instead!
ReplyDeletePreach sister!
Pero wait, fill me in please. Di ako mahilig sa fashion, sinech?
ReplyDeleteI really wish that one day, Philippines would be a "fashion capital"- Big Dreamer
ReplyDelete*No. 4 --> ain't that the truth? :-(
Magaling ka ba mag-spelling? Spell A-S-A, teh? haha
DeleteThere's always truth to everyone's opinion.
ReplyDeleteoh wow, i never knew fashion defines a nation!
ReplyDeleteHahaha korek ang babaw nitong wanna be na to!
DeleteTumpak na tumpak ka mare. Nakakarimarim ang kahambugan ng tao na to.
Deletelet us go beyond grammar and understand where this person is coming from. i mean, seriously, english was never our domain tongue in the first place.
ReplyDeletelope may have gone gutter level in describing Philippine Fashion, but come to think of it, we have become a nation of plagiarists! from the senate, to the supreme court and now, long standing but never discussed: our own fashion sense - if you still need some convincing, let us back track FP's previous postings to realize that there is an abundance of copycats amongst us.
our artists/fashion designers should take this opportunity to re examine on how they want to go about in the fashion business? hopefully the creative juices, original and unique flows over greed, profit and lost of integrity.
Thank you very much for that beautiful question and good morning to all of you (sabay kaway at kembot)
YOU'RE THE 2013 WINNER! CLAP CLAP CLAP!
DeleteKUDOS TO YOU.. I SO AGREE WITH YOU :-) VERY WELL SAID..
well.... yung sinasabi yang pampaputi agree ako dun! hahahhaa!
ReplyDeletetruth hurts. mu-agree ko sa iyaha.
ReplyDeleteSeems like Filipinos are always good in following fads. Doesnt care much about originality and quality as long as they can say they are in the bandwagon. Sadly, this goes across industries and not just fashion.
ReplyDeleteFilipinos need to wake up. Most points are true - but should have not written in an INSULTING manner.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Try hard masyado mga Filipino designers. Some have potential but they often fall into the copycat trap. Once they become a name, nawawala na ang creativity at nagiging tacky na.
ReplyDeleteWe really need class and a serious overhaul to our fashion industry. We're filipinos, why should we look to the western hemisphere para sa mga ideas! Wala tayong spring o winter mga 'te!
Wake up call to everyone from designers to fashionistas and not only that industry. We need to come up with originality and we need to support original home grown ideas and products.
ReplyDeleteso sad.. but true.. lope navo is a famous photographer published worldwide.. he is filipino..
ReplyDeleteso why, anon 1:47pm, does he not use his worldwide acclaim to promote the country & its people?
Deletepartly agree.majority of pinoys are so americanized.
ReplyDeletebut i still believe pinoys are uniquely talented among asians.
i am every inch proud to be pinoys kaso younger generations of designers
are yielding to be copycats.asan na yung talent natin to be creative
and innovative?if we could only tap on to our God given talent then
we could be well ahead in terms of arts and fashion.kaso, let's face it,
majority are still bounded by western culture.
Tinag pa si Randy C.! Kaloka! Pero he has a point naman kasi.
ReplyDeleteRandy couture?
Deletein some part i agree! but! ang ikinaloloka ko why have "someone's own sentiments" be his own sentiment too??? nakakaloka! sya ba ang spokesperson ni Gan??? sya ba ang alter ego ni Gan??? Too bad he can never change the FACT na HE IS STILL A FILIPINO!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd more embarrassing eh he him self is doing what he just said!
Anong year na ba? 2013 dba? Did he run away from Manila? No. It's on how you handle things. If you love the philippines and wants the fashion industry here to develop, you'd stay and share your knowledge para mapaunlad ang fashion industry dito. Pera gusto mo boploks.
Hahahaha
ReplyDeleteVery true. One would think that these delusional IT girls from Manila are the goddesses of Fashion. Josko! Porke't half breed, maganda na?!
ReplyDeleteBest examples would be the so-called IT girls.
Models wear what are asked of them to wear! gravity ka
DeleteSo true!
DeleteThat's the saddest part actually.
DeleteHe shouldn't generalize all the Filipinos.
ReplyDeleteIn the Philippines, when we talk about FASHION is it often synonymous to the elite circle - the IT girls & boys etc.
ReplyDeleteTrue that! You go, Girl! Have a happy period ~ Kimmy
DeleteBeki... It should be pieces of information and not informations.. Fyi.
ReplyDeleteEven the Singular & Plural Forms.. LOL
ReplyDeleteSabog ang grammar ni pseudo-fashion designer.
ReplyDeleteHindi po fashion designer si Lope. He is a world-famous photographer
DeleteFunny lang kse galit na galit sha, affected much? Bitter-bitteran lang. Parang may pinaghuhugutan? Since ginenaralize na nya and pinoy sha, kasama sha dun sa mga pinagsasabi nya. The last laugh is on him kse pinoy din sha.
ReplyDeletePHOTOGRAPHER LANG SIYA. It's not even comparable to other professions like a DOCTOR, LAWYER, BANKER, ENGINEER, FINANCIAL ANALYST, etc. who DO REAL WORK that REALLY benefit people.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, this country has other more pressing issues to attend to.
DeleteI think Lope Navo is just frustrated..
ReplyDeleteeuphemism ata teh?
ReplyDeletevery hurtful comments from Lope Navo, but slightly true. can you blame him for expressing his own opinion. he has the guts to trash talk because his career is in New York, not here. that's what happens when someone's career skyrockets to the milky way, they never learn how to look back. too bad he can't in any way eradicate Philippines from his birth certificate.
ReplyDeletethe last part of his comment was not captured, he said "It is very embarrassing to be a Filipino ..." poor guy
ReplyDeleteKng totoo man tong mga sinabi mo? Nkatulong naman b??? This things shud have been said in a constructive way. It seems to me that lope navo hates being a filipino. Un lng.
ReplyDeleteWell, if i have a face like that of Navo I will feel embarrassed too. LOL
ReplyDeleteContradicting yung number 1 and number 4. :)
ReplyDeleteThis Lope Navo guy flopped in New York. Ngayon, nagdadrama kasi walang pumapansin sa kanya hahahahha
ReplyDeletetalaga? so ba't mas maganda credentials niya?
ReplyDeleteDon't worrt, Manong Lope. We are as embarrassed about you as you are about being Filipino. The only difference between you and us is that we know who we are as Filipinos, with all our so-called faults you so merrily enumerated. I wonder if you can honestly say the same about yourself. Now, kindly remove your fishy self from our collective presence.
ReplyDeleteDear Lope-Whoever-on-Earth-You-Are,
ReplyDeleteFirst off, we dont know you.
And whatever you say, you cant change the fact that you are a Filipino and you're left with no choice but to suck it all up.
who is lope navo anyway? such a trying hard, social climbing id**t.
ReplyDeletehe's quite gaining a name in NY Fashion scene. You just don't know him for a reason that you're one of the bitter mindless(in fashion) Filipino who knows nothing much about what they're talking about. Anyway, I too didn't like his way of ranting all that stuff but he has a point.
Deletegoogle mo nalang teh... You are the id**T. ang mga kilala mo hanggang Ge*gi** W*ls** lang ata... He is very successful in his field and world class cya.
Deletesee! how filipinos are! they critcize lagi! porket mali grammar, maitim, pangit siya, wala siyang karapatan etc,. ang hirap sa atin hindi natin matanggap ang katotohanan! minsan kayalangan tingnan natin ang sarili natin bago manghusga! walang perpekto. sinulat niya yan, opinion niya yan, binasa niyo nasaktan ang ego niyo, bitter kayo. pero minsan tanungin natin sa sarili natin meron ba siyang tama, or reasons bakit niya nasabi yon? proud akong pinoy! pero masakit man sabihin nagbubulagbulagan tayo minsan! hindi tayo lagi ang the best! wala pa tayong napapatunayan! may mapapatunayan tayo kung magsisimula sa atin! opinion ko to! hindi rin ako perpekto pero minsan kaylangan kayong pag sabihan. mali ang sinabi niya di siya proud na maging pinoy! choice niya yon! paki alam natin! let us be optimist wag tingnan ang mali at i criticize...! opinion lang!
ReplyDeleteKorek!!!! Hirap kc satin masyado taung ma pride!kahit totoo kung nasaktan ang ego, magagalit na dun sa tao!pero pag tayo mismo gumawa/nagsabi nun, deadma lang at sasabihing 'im entitled to my own opinion'!
DeleteI LIKE IT! CORRECT KA DIYAN KAPATID!
DeleteBigyan ng jacket!!!
ReplyDeleteRemember Lope kahit ibilad mo sa france ang skin mo or mababad sa lamig ng snow never mo maaalis na Pinoy ka....supposedly, being the more successful pinoy sana Constructive ang criticism mo....may tama ka sa ibang points pero yung karamihan pagkamuhi sa sarili mong nationality, try sharing that with other nationalities, magmumukha kang ingrato at nakakahiya....very wrong na ikahiya ang bansang kinalakihan mo,you can escape manila but you cant escape who you are even if gayahin si jinky oda sa pag gluthatione
ReplyDeleteI agree with everything that he said about "Fashion" in the Philippines. But he's kinda ugly.
ReplyDeleteGQ Philippines coming in a few months!
ReplyDeleteHe is right about the skin whitening and foreign models obsession. It is more of a sickness now, perpetuated by pseudo-doctors like Belo. But about fashion in general....this country is still too poor to think about fashion. The vast majority of people are pre-occupied on where to get their next meal that they can’t really afford to think about what is going on in the world of fashion.
ReplyDeletelope navo, gano kayo ka close ni stephen gan for you to speak for him?
ReplyDeletenega naman! Michael Cinco, Josie Natori, Cary Santiago, hindi mo kilala? aralin mo muna ang facts at huwag gumawa ng sweeping statements..so irresponsible.. and Pinoy Pride starts from yourself. shame on you!!!!
ReplyDeletebased on the twitter exchange nila ni Rico Robles, i too, want to understand where this Lope Navo's hate is coming from. he's even resulting to name calling with Joyce Ramirez. ibang level ang galit ng lolo mo! nawawala sa wisyo. hambog ang peg!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure inaapi to dati. Bitter sa fashion industry sa pilipinas kasi di siya maka fit in dati kasi he's an ugly jejemon studying near the slums kaya nayon na may narating na eh feeling akala mo kung sino. Ang itim niya kaya...
ReplyDelete
