Oprah Winfrey Slapped with Sex Discrimination Suit

Oprah Winfrey does not look out for her own ... at least that's what is alleged in a new lawsuit in which a female exec at OWN claims she lost her job because she got knocked up.

According to a lawsuit filed Friday, Carolyn Hommel claims she was hired in 2010 as senior director of scheduling and acquisitions at Oprah's OWN network. Hommel claims she was told she was on-track to become a VP, but says things took a sudden turn when she became pregnant.

According to Hommel ... her duties were slowly transferred to a temporary employee and she was excluded from meetings when she returned from medical leave. Hommel claims she was let go ONE MONTH after giving birth and told to re-apply for the VP gig ... only to be passed over.

Furthermore, Hommel claims her boss, Michael Garner, fabricated a performance review that "made Hommel's job duties and responsibilities appear less 'senior' and therefore not a candidate for the new vice president position."

Hommel allegees her dismissal was a direct result of her becoming pregnant and requiring a medical leave.

  1. it's not Oprah's fault. I did watch the news and it was her subordinates who gave the decision and not her.

  2. let's be honest, sa position nya as an executive of OWN, she has to be in the loop at any given time. kaya most companies prefer guys as top level execs is because of this. hindi naman pwede wla mag-act ng responsibilities nya because she's preggy. karamihan nga, even while of vacation, execs still connect with their offices to get the on dits and act out accordingly. while i agree that this is sexual discrimination, can't be helped.

    1. Then, Oprah shouln't have hired her in the first place. But she did and she should have expected na majojontis at majojontis yung empleyado nya kasi babae, may matris.

Kahit yung subordinate ni Oprah ang supposedly nag fire sa employee, Oprah should be on top of everything. She is one of the major decision makers, so she had a hand in dismissing her.

How sure are you that Oprah hired her? I don't think Oprah has the time to interview and hire people.

  7. Hay naku, prob nya yan. Bat kc magpapajuntis? There must be other reasons why wasn't considered for the VP position, not just the juntis part. She was just saying that to gain brownie points from feminists. di yan mananalo. Period.
