Does He Really Support Film Piracy?

Being part of the movie industry, there are many expectations from stars. First on the list is image. Ideally, what the actors project comes close to what they really are. Second, they are expected to abide by the regulations the industry strongly advocates. One of these the actors are not expected to condone is film piracy - for very obvious reasons.

While training at the gym, DA called his assistant, who came up to meet him. The presence of the assistant called attention as DA might be feeling something and that he might need help. Then, DA was heard instructing his assistant to purchase copies of the latest movies. Since the gym was located at a favorite area of the anti-piracy raids, the other gym clients realized DA had just asked his assistant to purchase pirated movies.

Those who overheard the request of DA were amused that such an actor of his calibre actually patronize such DVDs. DA yet his siblings project a classy and sassy lifestyle. He also has money, given his movie and TV projects, and endorsements. However, DA is also known to be frugal. At any rate, purchasing pirated DVDs is such a turn off. Is patronizing such products, the only “fake” purchases DA makes?

"Price is rarely the most important thing. A cheap product might sell some units. Somebody gets it home and they feel great when they pay the money, but then they get it home and use it and the joy is gone." – Tim Cook

    2. yes there's nothing wrong with being frugal but he is actually patronizing pirated dvds that's as good as stealing and coming from showbiz, these actors and actresses should be the first ones to show support for the real deal and campaign against piracy tsk tsk

    3. But everyone's been fake stuff (in pinas)...kahit nga ang political affairs secretary was caught red-handed buying fake CDs...si DA pa kaya. Give the guy a break! I'm not a fan. In fact, I don't know who the guy in this BI is but I just don't find him buying fake CDs a big turnoff.

    9. we all know that 99.9 % of people who visit this site have at one point downloaded illegal content from the internet. don't believe guys who proclaim "i only buy my music from itunes" they tell us that its immoral and is killing the industry, but thats bec the business models the industry are using are so f***ed up and obsolete they could no longer keep up with the times. they need new business models. its becoming impossible to stop billions of people from sharing and "stealing" contents. we condemn piracy now but it will soon be the new norm. tv and radio survives the info-digital age bec they're free and cheap. its the movie and music industry that needs to innovate. go ahead, crucify those who buy pirated dvds, we're all fools. -internet activist

"A word of second hands"? You mean "hand-me-downs"? So you've never bought anything for yourself at all? Kaloka ka te!

Hndi ko kilala ang nsa BI nto pro sinabi ba dto na sinabi nia mismo na pirated ang pinapabili? nagassume lang ang mga chismoso sa gym just because anti piracy raids usually happen in that area.. 10. 9:45 AM Oh sige so walang capacity ang mga patrons ng piracy na bumili ng music in a legal way (iTunes, Amazon, etc.) pero gawin ba namang dahilan yan to buy pirated stuff? That's no different from a hold upper who held up a person because "wala syang pambili ng gatas ng anak nya". It's still a crime.

Besides, music/movies are not a NEED. If you can't buy your music/movies legally, then don't listen/watch at all! It's that simple. Kaloka!

      Delete
    11. Agree. I don't buy pirated stuff either. Kahit software, bumibili ako ng orig or naghahanap ng open source alternative. If I can't afford it, I don't buy it! And I agree with Anonymous 3:42 PM, music and movies are not a need! If you can't afford them, you can survive naman!

      Delete
    12. Basic mantra is: if you CAN'T AFFORD it, don't STEAL just so that you can have it! Ethics, people! ETHICS! Support nyo naman ang local industry natin! I know a lot of prod people who work very hard for the local cinema and music scene. Help them even in your own little way by buying original copies of their works!

      Delete
    13. if buying pirated copies is equivalent to stealing, does it mean that if you download it you are not stealing it? la lang...anyway, i dont buy pirated copies. i download it and share it for free! LOL!

    6. Anonymous 9:51, wag ka na magdahilan pa. Mali ang ginagawa mo. PERIOD. Bakit, is it your right to watch movies or listen to music? Is it a NEED?

So you're saying that just because you want to experience something, if you can't do it legally you should be able to do it illegally? "Paano naman ako, gusto ko maexperience e!" Sheesh!

    7. Eto, example. A friend of mine works for a gaming company overseas.

Because of people like these, like YOU, who think that entertainment is a NEED and you should be able to get them ILLEGALLY, that hardworking people are getting laid off from jobs!! Shame on you!

Kung di mo afford, wag ka bumili!!

Bow!

    1. No excuse for people who buy stolen stuff. The people behind films are working hard to get paid. And their pay depends on people who legally watch their works. Kahit ano pa ang sabihin ng iba, piracy is still a crime. Walang excuse! Para san pa ba ang anti-piracy laws kung everyone will say, "Hey, since everyone's doing it, it must be the right thing to do."

Or, baka inaalam nya kung may pirated DVD na nung movie nya with "s"

  14. ang tanga lang ng mga nagpupumilit sa argumentong there's nothing wrong being frugal even if it means purchasing STOLEN movies. it reflects the kind of education and upbringing these people obtained.
