    6. sorry, i dont get it...pero ano kinalaman ni lea sa issue?

      Delete
    7. Lea Salonga, a pure Filipina, endorsed the product some years back. When the commenter said Bayo shamed Lea Salonga, it means that they did not even regard that its previous endorser is a true-blue Pinay who did not need any mixture of foreign blood to excell in her field.

  2. When I saw their billboard, sabi ko sa sarili ko na naligaw na ng landas ang bayo sa brand message nila. For the longest time, they were saying "pinay and proud", tapos biglang half and half na.

    ReplyDelete
  3. I bought items from this franchise because their model Lea Salonga embodied "Pinoy and Proud"... I am never buying your stuff ever again, sell your wares to mixed Pinays.

  4. Tanong lang: Sino ang Ad Agency nyo? We are all curious.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Ay nako, mga echoserang over-reactors nanaman. Everyone takes everything so literal now a days, that's not what they meant by "what's your mix?" Widen your mind, think outside the box... there's too many judgemental and narrowminded people now.

    1. Nah! The ad was literal. What's your take on "what's your mix?", btw?

      Delete
    2. you're too defensive. i think it's an irresponsible ad.

      Delete
    3. yes the ad is literal. I think their original concept of 'whats your mix' pertains to the mixing of your mood and personality to the clothes you wear. This concept is good. But then they took it literal to the models, which I think was appalling. Talk about racism or nationality plus create a formula that determines the percentage of your nationality, then you created a stage where people can throw tomatoes and empty water bottles. It is advertising so the campaign is out there for consumer's interpretation - may it be exactly the same as what they want to convey or the opposite. Apparently, half interpreted otherwise. Publicity-wise, yes, they succeeded but concept-wise, they fail. Bottom line is, if youre an advertiser, you should be smart enough to consider what other people (people that do not think the same way as they do) may take on their campaign messages.

      Delete
    4. My take or in other words interpretation of this ad is that you should be proud to be filipino, whether you are mixed or not... Filipino blood makes you world class NOT being mixed, since these mixed models have filipino blood in em it just makes them world class. The tagline of "What's your mix?" does not only point out to ethnicity. Bayo clearly stated mixing and matching "Nationalities, mood, personality, and of course your fashion pieces" hence the tagline. Honestly, we should be more prideful that these mixed models are proud and willing to represent their filipino heritage. People are saying its discriminating pure filipinos, I don't see that at all. If it's racial discrimination then aren't the full filipinos themselves doing the same thing, discriminating against mixed filipinos? I'm pure filipina myself and I think this ad doesn't mean any harm. Anyways, it's just my opinion and what I believe in! That's my take, what's yours? Also, how is this ad irresponsible?

    6. This is an example of a good concept gone bad.
      1. One's lineage (or mix) is not the same as mixing and matching of clothes poor correlation.
      2. It amazed me how they were able to arrive at the percentage like 80% Chinese - 20% Filipino. Is there a science to this? Can you determine this via DNA test or something. Seriously!
      3. Message should have been no matter what your lineage is, part chinese, australian, african or whatever, you still are considered 100% Filipino and being a Filipino sets you apart.

We can not completely blame the Ad agency because this campaign was approved by the management of Bayo.

      Delete
    7. sheesh people. Don't take things literally. Yes, it was a poorly written copy but the concept is not racist at all. Some comments are just way off and uncalled for. kaya walng asenso pinas napak narrow minded ng pilipino. kala mo kugn sinong makabayan e puros imported namn gamit.

      Delete
    8. I agree with the last 3comments, the new ad of BAYO doesnt mean to descriminate anyone. And as far as I know BAYO is the only brand that doesnt get international personalities as endorsers w/c other brands do (not even half filipinos).

      Delete
    9. they arrive in that percentage because of their great great grandparents. getz? simple thing gets complicated kapag pinapalaki ang issue.

      Delete
    10. It implies that A Filipino automatically should have a mix. Sana they played on the different hats a person wears nalang, I.e. 50% mother 50% CEO. Maybe that would have been better received..

      Delete
    11. AnonymousJune 9, 2012 4:53 PM, you got that right! for me, the campaign meant well, it's all about being proud to have pinoy blood :)

    3. Duh!! di nila sinasabing mas maganda and sabi nila maganda ang Mix. It's not a racist AD.

      Delete
    4. AnonymousJune 9, 2012 12:14 PM sinabi nila na pag may filipino blood kaya nagiging maganda un babae not the other way around.

      Delete
  7. Honestly, I wasn't THAT offended. I mean, the campaign just stated a fact that having mix bloods will get you somewhere but never stated that being 100% pinoy will not or is ugly. It does not even say that beauty is exclusive to those who are ‘half-half' – it simply states that they generally are.

The campaign had a potential but the execution made it cheap-looking though.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. But i think Coming from a brand that previously promotes 100% pinoy and proud then switches to a campaign that promotes mixed is beautiful, it conveys a lot of negative messages.Even if the ad simply states that half-half is beautiful, simple filipinas will ask themselves, "hey, im a full-blooded pinay, am i not beautiful?" remember, BAYO caters to all filipina women.

      Delete
    2. I don't get why simple Filipinas feel that way. Are you saying that simple filipinas are narrow-minded and insecure? Like what you said, they previously promoted 100% Pinoy, is it bad to get the attention of the mixed-blooded Filipinas to buy their stuff? I don't think so. It's just a pure campaign, what's the fuss about?

      Delete
    3. So they can't change their marketing strategy anymore? di namn nilang sinabing di sila proud sa 100% filipino. This time, they chose to celebrate the uniqueness of every Filipina. May halo man o wala.

      Delete

    ReplyDelete

    1. Please stop it with this mentality; all of us are FILIPINOS! We always count which percentage of us is a certain race but can't we all just agree that we are all Filipinos? And aeta as purong pinoy? It's laughable that you don't consider people coming from Malay descent as pure Filipinos

      Delete

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Di rin. Fyi, majority of pinoys are mixed. The concept of BAYO was eugenics.
"Call it biased, but the mixing and matching of different nationalities with Filipino blood is almost a sure formula for someone beautiful and world class..." -- Anong tawag mo dun?

      Delete
    2. The thing is, yung copywriter gusto nyang sabihin na pag merong Filipino blood, yun ang world class. Ang intention nila is to paringgan yung Bench and Penshoppe for hiring international stars for their campaign. Ganun kasi yung Lea Salonga ad nila a decade ago.
Thank you Bayo for taking the ads down.

      Delete
    3. "The thing is, yung copywriter gusto nyang sabihin na pag merong Filipino blood, yun ang world class."

Agree, mukhang na-lost in translation lang kaya nag-iba ng meaning.

  12. I wonder why this kind of message was approved before it went out to the public. Aside from the fact that it can be offending, their target market is limiting, considering their catch question is 'whats your mix' pertaining to those who just have mixed nationality. I dont want to start with what 'real beauty' is but clearly, their message invited misinterpretation.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. They're actually asking you, what's your Mix? That was a question not a statement. A question to remind that everyone is unique but can still be 100% awesome! What's limiting is the way people read it. narrow minded much?

      Delete
    2. When someone asks me "whats my mix?" i wont be reminded how unique and 100% awesome i am as what you said.. correlation too absurd te.

  18. i am a Bayo buyer since way back they opened their first stores, i could not remember how many years ago but i was still in my teens. I love Bayo coz their clothes are comfortable to wear, though it may be quite priced-high yet considering quality & uniqueness, it's worth it. And comparing them with their closest competitor, Bayo is still more reasonably priced.

I am not too keen with their advertisements, but i believe they are just trying to convey that whoever wants to buy from them, they can find their right fit and that their clothes are for everybody.

  19. I'm confused. Here's a country that brings in so-called Fil-whatever basketball players, soccer players, rugby players. actors and actresses; and then gets offended by an add celebrating mixed Filipino models and call it discrimination.

Hello? Isn't this the same people that a few weeks ago were jumping up and down because their kababayan Jessica Sanchez, a Filipino-American-Mexican was in the finals of AI? Now what would that girl do?

So what's this "discrimination" thing all about?

Besides aren't we forgetting Bayo's other sins, like stealing and plagiarizing? It was all over the net a few years ago; they even threatened the Japanese artist, Emma, whom they stole designs from.

  24. I honestly think Bayo didnt mean to be racist or discriminating. I think naging mali lang yung execution. hindi lang nila napadala yung message nila clearly. parang kulang kasi eh...feeling ko nga hindi lang mga 100% pinay dapat ang maoffend...so if you are mixed - 40% pinay 60% british...then ano ka???? dyosa?? actually, its as if you dont belong to any race. So ayun, kulang, are they trying to say... equals 100% pinay? we're all equal regardless of mix? so ano yun? i just hope Bayo realized something...but good move to apologize and take action.

    ReplyDelete
  25. dapat yung ad nila, what's your mix, yung tungkol sa ethnicity ng pinoy for example like me.50% cebuana-50% negrense para full blooded filipina talaga, kung yun yung gusto nilang i convey, kasi diba target ng market nila is tayong mga pinoys, para walang ng racism issue na yan.dapat alam nila yan kasi if i'm not mistaken they are from silay negros occidental, they are silaynons from HOFELIÑAS clan if my memory serves me right.kaso naman pag ganito yung concept surely the raciscm issue will arise also because, how about some pinoys with foreign blood? aver??

  28. I don't think Bayo's campaign is offensive. I know a lot of you would disagree though. I hope you will reread their ad camppaign. Based on their campaign, they have said that having a Filipino lineage is definitely something to be proud of. Is that a bad thing guys? I guess they even would want to say that having a Filipino Blood is having a superior blood but of course they would not say that lol.

  35. I am a Filipino and I am not offended. When I saw the photos for the first time, I just went past it and didn't even make a big deal out of it like other people did. I do not even understand why this is a big deal. I think the message that bayo unintentionally conveyed was that "if you're 100% Filipino, you are ugly and will not have any chance to be recognized world class. People with different mixes are beautiful people and can be recognized world class. "

So... why is there a need to get offended when you know you're not ugly? Or maybe other people got offended because they have nothing more to offer other than physical looks and them being a Filipino makes it a handicap. That is just sad. With or without physical looks I think everyone, I mean pure and half breeds, have an equal chance to get recognized and be successful if they have great personality and skills.

  40. it's considered offensive if you make the people that you are peddling your wares to (which would understandably include pure/non-mixed pinays) feel that they are not good enough or special enough, being non-mixed as they are, compared to mixed pinays.

they're not saying that pure/non-mixed pinays are ugly or what, but that compared to ordinary, plain vanilla pinays, pretty or not, it would be so much cooler if you were with mixed lineage.

and pls, spare me the argument regarding pinays wanting to look white. that may be preference, for a whole variety of reasons. and that is skin-deep. chinese folks in china, malaysia, etc. like to maintain their already fair complexion, so don't start over-analyzing things. but if someone, and esp. an institution/company/body of people, starts telling you that you are not enough, then that is something different. you can guzzle glutathione potions and what-not; i feel it would be wrong but that's not my concern. you do what you want to your body. but if someone else starts targeting your pagkatao (lineage-wise), that you're not good enough, then of course, that is hella wrong on a whole different level.

and do you seriously think their slogan "what's your mix" is meant to ask, "are you half-igorot, half-aeta, half-malay?" no doubt NO. in this day and age of celluloid dreams, people think it's cool if you have eurasian lineage or something as exotic. but NOT pinay exotic. politically correct or otherwise, pinay exotic (which is more natural and closer to non-mixed) is not the marketing ideal--not the marketing model, not the marketing "mix" (pun intended). otherwise, why don't all these companies just include a half-aeta, half-malay person? why pay millions to feature someone on billboards/magazines like this lass with all her non-aeta features (cuz she ain't no aeta fo sho)??? there's obviously double standards happening here.

Bayo's desired result here would be that by spending millions on an ad campaign that is supposed to make them so much more money, you the consumer would feel so much more insecure in your own skin than you already are, that you would fork over lots of money to buy shit (good shit, i must admit) that you hope will start making you feel a little more special, if not maybe a little more "mixed".
