Backlash of Her Myopic Quips

While in an anniversary party of a fashion magazine last Thursday night, beauty queen (BQ) mingled with the guests, as one normally does. However, what was striking was that the "beki" guests in the same party avoided BQ like a plague. BQ felt the lack of warmth and the cold treatment some "bekis" showed her that night.

When she approached a high profile and popular stylist (PS), he ignored her. Of course, this reaction was a blow to BQ because PS was one of those who helped prepare her for one of the significant events in her life, which eventually ended in failure later on. Moreover, PS is often the top choice in photoshoots and other fashion events, where she also participates. PS is highly sought after by celebrities and non-celebrities who can afford his rates.

Out of disgust, BQ approached a group of girls and expressed her disappointment. She said something like, “Ano ba naman ‘tong mga ito, di makamove on sa issue.”

Perhaps, BQ forgot that her twitter messages alienated and offended the LGBT community. Some "bekis" found her messages amiss and insensitive because "bekis" were behind some of her major achievements. Behind every successful beauty queen is a "beki". Moreover, "bekis" form the support system and spearhead the world of her career. As for moving on, perhaps BQ thought her one-liner of an apology was enough to appease those she had hurt. Sadly, it was not.

Can you identify who BQ is? Please abide by the RULES in writing comments if you want me to post them. Initials and comments that are too explicit will not be accepted.

  5. I'm with BQ on this one. whatever happened to 'anyone has his/her opinion'? What do these gays expect, that everyone should agree with them? Kaya nga opinion eh. sino ngayon ang nagiging intolerant?

    1. Agree! Bkit? Kelan ba nging mali ang opinyon?

    2. Agree. I am Not against gays... but di ko maintindihan why dapat pagdating sa kanila extra sensitive ang mga tao. Pano nga naman magiging intolerant yung iba Kung ang gusto is special treatment. Wag sana ganun di ba. The more you ask for special treatment lalong di magiging normal ang tingin ng iba sa kanila. Hayst...live and let live...

    3. What she said was NOT an opinion. It was an indirect insult to the LGBT. She is a public figure that is why she has to be extra careful with her words.

    4. AnonymousMay 19, 2012 5:51 AM, what special treatment are you talking about? Nobody is asking for a special treatment, LGBT is asking for equal rights, the right to be respected, and a life free of mockery. Ditto with AnonymousMay 19, 2012 6:20 AM, what se said was not an opinion. It is a scathing generalization that is hurtful to the LGBT community...

    5. " Tandaan: Kapag walang bading, boring. - Vice Ganda- ".....No disrespect to the overly sensitive gay community, but this is one of the most stupid things I've ever read.

and dapat matuto din silang rumespeto sa kasarian nila. deserving ba ng respeto ang mga gays na nagpapakita talaga ng dibdib during gay contests? just to show to the world and the gays around that they have breasts?? or wear the skimpiest of clothing. if they want to pass like a woman, they should behave as one. I know may mga babae ding b*tch, but is that what gays want if they are women?

and some gays are loud. loud in buses, streets, restos specially pag groupo. aminin nyo mga bekis may mga ganyang klase na beki. nagpapapansin talaga pag naglalakad sa daan feeling ramp model.

Those who speak/fight for gay equality are the best ones of the LGBT group. they are respectable, earn decent living and are discreet in their affairs and there are some in the LGBT group who are loud, obnoxious and outright KSP.

    9. It's not a question of opinion. It's BQ being hypocritical. If she thinks gays are an abomination then why does she continue to associate with them? Is she trying to save them? Change them? If she thinks gays are disgusting then she should have nothing to do with them. As it is, she's still hanging around them. What's that all about?

Maybe she just wants a free dress

    12. Just because everyone's entitled to an opinion doesn't mean they can say what they want (no matter how cruel, racist, bigoted, controversial) and nobody can touch them.

And bekis are people, too. If they don't like BQ based on her recent words and actions and choose not to associate with her, that's their choice.

If, for example, a friend of mine says publicly that she thinks people who leave the Philippines in search of greener pastures are cowards for not staying in the Phils. and are failing in their duties as children by not staying home to take care of their parents, does that mean I have no right to be offended? If I eventually decide that I don't really have room in my life for people who disagree with my lifestyle, does that make me "intolerant" to her opinions?

The bekis weren't mad because she HAD an opinion. They were mad because she publicly announced that their lifestyle was a lie from the devil, and acted so high-and-mighty and holier-than-thou about it.

Anong tawag dun, truth or lie?
Pero sabi nga ni BQ dba,Jesus loves everyone and he died for our sins.kung magdedecide lang ang isang LGBT na gsto nya magbago Jesus can accept him/her with open arms and I think even BQ can help!

    6. Just because society says it's wrong, it's wrong? Can we just use some logic? Beauty queen chose to say her 'opinion' in public, which hurt most gays in the community. What do you expect them to do? Agree with her? Beauty queen drew the line and crossed it. 111. If I were BQ who has gay friends who have helped her and whom she loves, I would have been more tactful in my pronouncements. If you love and care for people, you wouldn't want them hurt, right? How can you equate the word "devil" to your dear friends? She could have been more sensitive, bec whether she likes it or not, she is surrounded by them in her industry. And calling them devil certainly has big repercussions.

  112. i think the wrong thing on her part was actually posting her opinions in twitter--out for everyone to see...i mean, again, she's a celebrity so of course lots of people can read her posts, and as a public figure, she can be subject to scrutiny...i think the wound is still open, so she shouldn't be chummy with them right now...just respect that the LGBT community got hurt, and give them time to heal...i think mq is still hurting from her own personal experience which led to her "damaging posts"..but then again, that's no excuse to generalize and alienate a certain sector of society...i guess for both parties: just give each other time for now...

  114. Kasi naman, lesson learned...next time, do not touch the homosexuality subject because it is something that is very sensitive.

But since andyan na yan I think the best way is for both parties to give this issue a rest. Tama na ok move on ng lahat. On my opinion this kind of issue hindi na dapat pinapalaki pa. It's enough that other people respect each other when it comes to their sexual preferences. Come to think of it here in our country more than half of the population are catholics. Respect each other nalang sana.

  121. Nowhere in the Bible does it state that homosexuality is OK. What BQ tweeted took a lot of courage to say especially in this time. I am not against the LGBT but that does not mean I condone their lifestyle.

eh, kung sincere ka, go and try to reach out to them. bakit ka pa maghihintay kung bibigyan ka ng pagkakataon?

the least you people can do, instead of preaching this and that, why won't you pray for them?

Teh, you just judged them. You just said you want to help them regain who God created them to be. Your statement assumes their current existence, that is a gay or lesbian, is not natural or what God created them to be. Shempre feeling mo mabait ka pa and helpful, but you have passed judgement on them na. This type of unexamined bias is what the LGBT community is fighting against. Your statement is also a perfect example of what is holier than thou hehe

Ang sabi ko nga, "P*ss off the gays once, and you'll be doomed forever".. Gusto ng LGBT respeto but they can't even respect those who oppose them.

Nakakatakot na talaga ang mundo ngayon. Pati Bible sinasabi nila na "Outdated" na. Napaka-blasphemic.

To those who still believe in the relevance of the Bible in today's setting, quite na lang mga kapatid. hehe Save Our Own Souls na lang. Unless and until we can follow every single rule in the bible (eg. not eating pork, crabs, shrimp), let's not shove to other people's throat what we have read/learned from the Bible.

  129. I'm not gay but I believe Myopic Queen deserves the backlash. She was not merely expressing her opinion, she just negated and dismissed any and all that is good from being a member of the LGBT community. She just called their existence, values, beliefs - everything as nothing but a lie from the devil. True gays can be bullies but most, while loud, use self deprecating jokes. She may not agree with their sexual preference but being gay, I believe, goes beyond sexual preference. Her being Christian does not make her a better person than a gay person. I always believed that this whole "my religion or my personal relationship with Christ makes me a better person than others" as medieval, it is but a manifestation of the white man's burden in the context of cultural relativism. What she did went beyond name calling, bullying or expressing an opinion. If I were gay I wouldn't move on too, I would set her in her place. Besides, it appears that Myopic Queen IS the one who needs to move on. So a transvestite was more appealing and attractive than her. Big deal. Just because she was a beauty queen did she really believe she was the queen of beauty? Tsk tsk. Move on Myopic Queen.

I feel for LGBT, na-hurt sila. Oo, para sa church sin yun, pero WE DON'T HAVE TO RUB IT IN THEIR FACES. Tayong mga girls, we owe it to them kaya magaganda tayo.

Sana lang both parties should move on na. Another article like this will just worsen the situation. Hayaan nalang natin mamatay ang issue and let the wounds heal in time.

  134. "Move on"... personally, i think she's the one who hasn't moved on.

Her twitter posts are still a bit defensive if you ask me. Maybe she should acknowledge her guilt. I think this is just all in her head. She's so burdened by guilt, kaya kung anu anong negativity na nangyayari sa kanya.

Things will not change for her until she really understands the true value of forgiveness.

    ReplyDelete
  135. Sabi nga ni newton,"to every action, there is always an equal and opposite reaction." yes, she's entitled to her own opinion, but everyone else is entitled to react in any way they want. I may agree with her religous views, but not with her obvious disgust/disappointment with how others react. When we speak our minds, we should also prepare ourselves for the consequences.

    ReplyDelete
  136. What I don't understand is if she despise homosexuality, then why would she want to "hang-out" with the very group she calls a lie from the devil. Isn't that act a very expression of a LIE as well. It's bigotry.
She is entitled to her opinion and she stood by it. I commend her for that. But she should give the LGBT the freedom to despise her opinion as well. It's a cause and effect thing.
If you give out opinion on something, especially hurtful one whether true or not, expect people to have opinions on your opinion as well. And it's obvious that in LGBT community's opinion, she is not worth befriending. So she too has to respect that.
The LGBT is moving on by choosing not to have anything to do with her. She should do the same para move on na talaga.
    My two cents.

    ReplyDelete
  137. But when I think about it, it's kind of hard nga naman to socialize with someone who has that kind of opinion about something that is part of you. You can't avoid feeling like you've already been judged or an opinion has already been formed about you. Sure, opinions shouldn't be taken personally but when you state them in such a way that BQ did, quite tactless and self-righteous and with the words "lie from the devil," pretty hard not to be, even slightly, offended.

    ReplyDelete
  138. The problem is, people think the "right to your own opinion" means you get a free pass to say ANYTHING you want and nobody can react negatively. So you can say something close-minded, bigoted, racist, cruel, etc. and it's OK, nobody can touch you, cause it's your own opinion!

Sorry. You're entitled to your own opinion. But if you express it publicly, be prepared for the repercussions. People will disagree with you. I'm Christian and straight, but personally I was turned off and insulted by BQ's holier-than-thou, self righteous attitude.

If I were one of BQ's gay friends and I read her tweet, I would've been even more insulted. Let's put it this way -- if I found out a non-Asian friend of mine thought all Filipinos were stupid, do you think I'd continue hanging out with her? Ano yun, "oh it's just her opinion that Filipinos are stupid, but she's entitled to her opinion so I'll still be her friend!" Ano ako, tanga? So the bekis are entitled to feel the same way. Yes, BQ is entitled to her own opinion. But if that opinion -- and her attitude throughout this entire episode -- is something that infuriates the bekis, then they can't be blamed for not liking her anymore.
