    1. The Bible also says that if you work on a Sabbath, you should be PUT TO DEATH (Exodus 35:2), You cannot shave your face (Leviticus 19:27), wear cloth of 2 different fabrics, plant 2 different seeds in the same field, touch the skin of a dead pig (like a basketball), and eating shrimps is an abomination (Leviticus 11:9-12).

Is this the truth you're talking about?

    2. what you posted is not a mere "truth", the term truth is different from commandment. And what you posted is a command from the bible. The term truth pertains to statements, ideas, facts, etc., English 101 says the same. Declarative sentence is different from imperative sentence. Hopefully it helped you.

    3. i thought the shrimp part were from the old testament.

OnT: the tweets were a bit insensitive but she apologized already.Medyo naging parang know-it-all nga lang vibe nya sa kin with all the christianity reference. I'm a christian but i hate it when people force feed bible phrases down other people's throat.

      Delete
    4. Correct, that's English 101. Basic meaning of 'truth'. And not the bigger, more abstract meaning of the word (which is also part of the language, though not '101'). Sorry, I thought the statement was less shallow than what you intended it to be.

      My mistake :-)

    5. It is pure hatred and bigotry from her...

Hatred is hatred even you veil it with "good intentions". If her belief is based on the bible. If she is really a bible believer as she claims...then she should also tweet about the evils of working on Sundays, eating "unclean" animals and should encouraging polygamy AS THE OLD TESTAMENT DICTATES.

By the way I do remember her eating pork in one of the segments of extra challenge so shall i throw a rock at her narrow minded head?

and if she is really reading the bible she should know about 1 Timothy 2:12

I do not let women teach men or have authority over them. Let them listen quietly.

    1. Obviously majority didn't like what she said or specifically, HOW SHE USED SUCH WORDS to express herself. But I don't think making derogatory remarks against her and her religion will earn the respect LGBT members or supporters deserve.

She has resorted to narrow-mindedness but I don't think being condescending will help. It will actually prove her shallow point.

  11. I watch the bottomline at anc and she is really feeling righteous...mga tao sila at hindi mistake...am not lesbian or gay...But i support their rights and understand their feelings. Parepareho lang naman tayong humihinga at kumakain...so what makes her think she is better person or above all of us...kakainis at nakakahighblood!!!

  12. And then there are these self-righteous people who claim to know a lot about God and religion who exclaims righteousness on God's behalf and tell everyone what is evil and what is not. 13. It is not a sin to be born homosexual. But to tamper with your body in such a way as to make a male body have female attributes is not right. It is also not right to consider a male who underwent sex change as a female.

I think Miriam's rants still stemmed from that Miss Universe issue about accepting transgenders in the contest.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. tampering? eh paano na yung mga nagpaparetoke for vanity, mali din ba yun? the way i see it its your body and its your decision. isa pa, you should google yung process bago na approve ang sex re-assignment procedures, there are really people who were born in the "wrong" bodies, kaya nga transgenders. and kung yun ang magpapasaya sa kanila, then nobody has the right to prevent them

  21. i think she tweeted this after she guested sa show ni A on GMA News TV. forgot the name of the show.

sinabi kasi don ng guest na transgender that para sa kanya, since bata pa daw sya alam nya ng girl sya and that being born a boy is just a simple mistake made by God. and mukhang shocked si A, so he asked 'nagkamali sino?', the transgender merely answered 'ang Diyos'. guest din don si Miriam, and being a devoted Christian, mukhang na offend sya with what she heard.

i dont blame her. kasi kahit ako who loves LGBT community was offended. its okay being Gay, Lesbian, Transexual, Bi or even Straight, but blaming your sexuality to God is the most appalling conviction I've ever heard.

    5. "Anonymous Apr 29, 2012 10:25 AM" <-- eh ikaw, pwede? Si Miriam, pwede? Let's face it, everything that is said about religion is filtered through the lens of human experience.

As for "Anonymous Apr 29, 2012 07:43 PM"
Actually, I would ask YOU to follow your own advice. From what I know, a true follower of God is someone who LIVES his words, not just reads or memorizes them.

A lot of people say they're Christians -- they're duly baptized, they go to church regularly, they pray regularly, they can quote Bible phrases -- but they treat the people around them like crap. They don't treat their househelp well, they refuse to associate with non-Christians, instead of treating everyone like 'brothers' they see non-Christians as second class citizens and judge and criticize them. I know of some hardcore Christians who, back in college, were remiss in their duties as students -- they showed up to class late (if at all), didn't do their homework, slacked off, and were inconsiderate towards the people around them.

On the other hand, you have atheists -- maybe they were former Christians. Or maybe they just grew up in an environment where they weren't exposed to religion. But they're nice people. Really nice people. In fact, I'd rather be friends with THEM than the so-called Christians.

So who do you think is the better person? If you're saying that the Christian is still the better person, then maybe you should rethink your ideas of what makes a good person. Nasa line na nga e, kind atheist vs. hateful Christian. Kind vs hateful, tapos Christian pa din choice mo? The atheist is "Christian" in his actions, and the Christian is not... It's actions, and not labels, that count.

      Delete
  31. i may not agree with her but let's just respect her opinion, as she should respect others'.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Oo nga naman, tama si Anonymous 4/29/12 04:42 am. Kasi naman itong mga born again, kaya nga nag-born again e dahil nakapagdesisyon sila na magbago at ibigay na sa Diyos ang buhay nila. Naturalmente, to follow God is to know Him and have a relationship with Him. paano nga naman nila magagawa yon kung hindi nila basahin at i-internalize yung nababasa nila sa Bibliya. At kung may revelation sila from the Bible, para sa kanila, it would be a sin not to share it. Homosexuality kasi is mentioned sa Bible. If she doesn't care for the homosexuals or for those struggling with it, she will just shut up. It takes courage to speak those things, lalo na pa't socially acceptable na ngayon ang homosexual relationship. So I can't blame her.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes i also can't blame her. I likewise feel it took much courage to write what she did, esp. this was a former beauty queen, meaning well-versed in PR and keeping quiet when needs be. BUT i also get that being born gay, may be a lot similar to a woman being forced to live like a man or a man being forced to live like a woman. I disagree that it's a choice. People just are. Although I also agree that the controversy regarding Miss Canada shows our world is worsening. Lines are being blurred like never before and morality is on the decline.

However, assuming that it IS the truth, why would I follow a book that demeans women and supports other atrocities? Or did you just read the fairytale-ish parts of the bible? :)

      Delete
    5. You actually mean there are references in the bible showing women being treated badly. However, it was never Jesus who did those atrocities nor justified them. You will find that Jesus gave much importance to women throughout.

Please understand the teachings of Jesus in the Bible. Don't take the atrocities you're taking about out of context.

      Delete
    2. HAHA recognizing the natural beauty of every individual?
Um, no. Ms. Universe is a money-making beauty contest run by Donald Trump.

Have you actually watched Ms. Universe? Most of the girls there are chosen based on their physical appearance. I'm willing to bet 99.99% of the female population does NOT look like them. It's not about "the natural beauty of every individual." It only celebrates women who are slim, sexy, and conventionally pretty. If it really celebrated the "natural beauty of every individual" we would be seeing women of all ages, shapes and sizes, and not the same model-like, statuesque women over and over again.

And for celebrating "natural" beauty, they sure do employ a large number of stylists and makeup artists...

    5. I hate Christians who, when asked to explain something, revert to:

"Read the Bible and you'll find out"
      or
"You'll never know because you've never experienced having an intimate relationship with God."

I understand that some things cannot be fully explained. But sometimes, ask some basic questions that require a LITTLE bit of explanation or logic and these "Christians" clam up and revert to a holier-than-thou attitude.

Not all of us are asking questions to argue. Some of us genuinely want to know. It just annoys me when, as someone who used to be super-religious but is now struggling with her faith, I ask a supposedly religious friend of mine about something and she gives me some run of the mill answer. I'm not looking for answers that are parroted from the Bible or religion class or a priest. I'm trying to get a deeper understanding, but apparently a number of "Christians" can't go that far.

  54. Everyone is entitled to their opinions. I mean if this is how she feels about the LGBT community, it's a free country she does have the right to voice it out. Just like the LGBT have the right to be who they are and be their own self in the society. BUT, unfortunately, the LGBT is still seen as not the "norm" in society and unfortunately, still not accepted by so many. As for me, I love the LGBT community, I think they should not be judged by anyone for that matter because like us, they too, are humans. I am sure when you die and you are gay, God will not say, "I'm sending you to hell because you're gay." God is a Loving God and Im sure he will not judge us according to our sexual orientation but to what we did to our fellowmen. So, yeah as much as we have our own opinions, we should not be judging people but instead try to understand, reach out to them, and best of all HAVE FUN with them! Ang saya kaya kung may mga friends kang bading! Love u FP!

i'll share this article to all atheists. if you still don't believe in god, i hope He'll enlighten your mind one day..

An atheist professor of Philosophy was speaking to his class on the problem Science has with GOD. He asked one of his new Christian Students to stand and...

Professor : You are a Christian, aren't you, son?

      Student : Yes, sir.

Professor: So, you believe in GOD?

      Student : Absolutely, sir.

      Professor : Is GOD good?

      Student : Sure.

      Professor: Is GOD all powerful?

      Student : Yes.

Professor: My brother died of cancer even though he prayed to GOD to heal him. Most of us would attempt to help others who are ill. But GOD didn't. How is this GOD good then? Hmm?

      (Student was silent.)

Professor: You can't answer, can you ? Let's start again, young fella. Is GOD good?

      Student : Yes.

      Professor: Is satan good?

      Student : No.

Professor: Where does satan come from?

      Student : From...GOD...

Professor: That's right. Tell me son, is there evil in this world?

      Student : Yes.

Professor: Evil is everywhere, isn't it ? And GOD did make everything. Correct?

      Student : Yes.

      Professor: So who created evil?

      (Student did not answer)

Professor: Is there sickness? Immorality? Hatred? Ugliness? All these terrible things exist in the world, don't they?

      Student : Yes, sir.

      Professor: So, who created them?

      (Student had no answer.)

Professor: Science says you have 5 Senses you use to identify and observe the world around you. Tell me, son, have you ever seen GOD?

      Student : No, sir.

Professor: Tell us if you have ever heard your GOD?

      Student : No , sir.

Professor: Have you ever felt your GOD, tasted your GOD, smelt your GOD? Have you ever had any sensory perception of GOD for that matter?

      Student : No, sir. I'm afraid I haven't.

Professor: Yet you still believe in Him?

      Student : Yes.

Professor : According to Empirical, Testable, Demonstrable Protocol, Science says your GOD doesn't exist. What do you say to that, son?

Student : Nothing. I only have my faith.

Professor: Yes, faith. And that is the problem Science has.

    5. cont'.:

Student : Professor, is there such a thing as heat?

      Professor: Yes.

Student : And is there such a thing as cold?

      Professor: Yes.

Student : No, sir. There isn't.

(The lecture theatre became very quiet with this turn of events.)

Student : Sir, you can have lots of heat, even more heat, superheat, mega heat, white heat, a little heat or no heat. But we don't have anything called cold. We can hit 458 degrees below zero which is no heat, but we can't go any further after that. There is no such thing as cold. Cold is only a word we use to describe the absence of heat. We cannot measure cold. Heat is energy. Cold is not the opposite of heat, sir, just the absence of it.

(There was pin-drop silence in the lecture theater.)

Student : What about darkness, Professor? Is there such a thing as darkness?

Professor: Yes. What is night if there isn't darkness?

Student : You're wrong again, sir. Darkness is the absence of something. You can have low light, normal light, bright light, flashing light. But if you have no light constantly, you have nothing and its called darkness, isn't it? In reality, darkness isn't. If it is, were you would be able to make darkness darker, wouldn't you?

Professor: So what is the point you are making, young man?

Student : Sir, my point is your philosophical premise is flawed.

Professor: Flawed ? Can you explain how?

Student : Sir, you are working on the premise of duality. You argue there is life and then there is death, a good GOD and a bad GOD. You are viewing the concept of GOD as something finite, something we can measure. Sir, Science can't even explain a thought. It uses electricity and magnetism, but has never seen, much less fully understood either one. To view death as the opposite of life is to be ignorant of the fact that death cannot exist as a substantive thing.

Death is not the opposite of life: just the absence of it. Now tell me, Professor, do you teach your students that they evolved from a monkey?

Professor: If you are referring to the natural evolutionary process, yes, of course, I do.

Student : Have you ever observed evolution with your own eyes, sir?

(The Professor shook his head with a smile, beginning to realize where the argument was going.)

Student : Since no one has ever observed the process of evolution at work and cannot even prove that this process is an on-going endeavor. Are you not teaching your opinion, sir? Are you not a scientist but a preacher?

      (The class was in uproar.)

Student : Is there anyone in the class who has ever seen the Professor's brain?

(The class broke out into laughter)

Student : Is there anyone here who has ever heard the Professor's brain, felt it, touched or smelt it? No one appears to have done so. So, according to the established Rules of Empirical, Stable, Demonstrable Protocol, Science says that you have no brain, sir. With all due respect, sir, how do we then trust your lectures, sir?

(The room was silent. The Professor stared at the student, his face unfathomable.)

Professor: I guess you'll have to take them on faith, son.

Student : That is it sir . . . Exactly ! The link between man and GOD is FAITH.That is all that keeps things alive and moving.

      P.S.

I believe you have enjoyed the conversation. And if so, you'll probably want your friends / colleagues to enjoy the same, won't you?

Share this this to increase their knowledge ... or FAITH.

By the way, that student was ALBERT EINSTEIN.

  71. First, these tweets probably came as a reaction to the whole transgendered women in Miss Universe issue. Let's discuss that. The premise to being a transgendered woman is that you believe that you are a woman, except for what your anatomy shows you (The anatomy, it is argued, only defines your SEX, but not GENDER). Unless one is willing to accept this premise, one can never reach the understanding of why transgendered women should be allowed to enter the competition.

As to whether it should be acceptable to claim that transgendered women are indeed women, that can be left for an entirely separate discussion.

Now, as to Miriam's claims of homosexuality being 'a lie from the devil', that is probably what her religion tells her. Bible verses can be quoted 'justifying' the hostility against homosexuals. Afterall, Leviticus says 'If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them.' However, it is important to note that Leviticus also tells us that eating shellfish, some birds and some insects, are also an abomination. So, shall we just take what's convenient for us in The Bible and follow those? Why are we being selective in our beliefs? If The Bible should be quoted on what's evil and what's not, then kitakits na lang sa impyerno. We are all going to burn in hell.

Which brings us to another point. Why is your God so hateful?

Also, how does a Christian bring his/ her point across to a non-Christian? How do you tell a non-Christian that he is going to burn in hell if he does not believe in hell? How do you tell a non-Christian that he will not go to heaven if he prefers to go to hell if there is one, if going to heaven means hanging out with insufferable self-righteous Christians?

As for me, at the end of the day, a person's life is going to be celebrated on what he has done to others, what he has turned himself to be, what his spirit has allowed him to become and to achieve -- and that should be true for homosexuals and heterosexuals alike.

Everyone is entitled to his own opinion, but not every opinion is as well-informed, well-inspected as others'.

  81. Whether who/what you are, there will always be someone who will discriminate against you. Even as simple as having gap toothed may not get you the job you applied for just bec the HR person is shallow and puts a lot of emphasis on outward appearance rather than skills.

I am a gay guy and there will always be people who will not be accepting of who you are. BUT if you are stripped of basic rights like right to vote bec you are LGBT then that's a diff story. With Miriam's opinion, that is simply her opinion/belief and i really do not think it's below the belt offensive. She in fact stated that God loves the gays and it is not a sin..and that says a lot already. It is so unnecessary for the LGBT group to ask her to publicly apologize..i mean she did not say that LGBT should all die and shouldn't be given any rights at all.

On the Jenna Talackove/Ms. U case, it really is out of line to allow transgenders to join..not because i am against them but it just does not meet with the criteria. Even women born female who are above/below the age/height requirement or had given birth are disqualified. Not accepting transgenders in the said competition does not mean the general public hates them. So will they now allow women born female to join Miss Gay??

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I totally agree with everything that you wrote. I am not against homosexuals, not at all, but I disagree that they should be allowed to join MISS whatever pageants. As you stated, there are rules, and rules should be followed. They may be female in mind, and now, even in body, but if not BORN female, they shouldn't be allowed to join. I don't understand why that should even be debated on, it's COMMON SENSE. Gays/homosexuals/transgenders have their own pageants, they can shine there. Plus, I sincerely doubt they would allow a genetically born female to enter their own beauty contests.

Personally, I expected Miriam Q's comments to be much more offensive than they really are. I found them to be quite tame. She is probably surprised herself that they caused quite a stir. But then again, I am a heterosexual, so I can't really comment.

Is it wrong to be happy? It may not be right for some people. For example, homosexual men (different from transsexuals) are happy with their gender, they just prefer men as partners. Transsexuals need the procedures as a medical treatment. It's a medical fact confirmed by the DSM handbook.
