Sixty-five delegates from across Canada will be in Toronto from May 11th to May 20th and will compete for the title of Miss Universe Canada 2012, awarded on Saturday, May 19th, 2012. ReplyDeletei'm gay and some of my closest friends are transgendered but can we please not turn this into another discrimination issue? the rules say candidates need to be female at birth. sometimes, we just have to respect that rule and not go all "papansin." we want respect, let's learn to respect others too. besides, she didn't declare her case at the very onset. next.
ReplyDeleteI like your take on this, considering as you mentioned that you are also gay. The bottomline is to respect the rules.
DeleteVery very well said.
Deleteexactly! :)
Deletesome people should learn how to follow rules, even simple ones.
Korek! Leave beauty pageants like this to biological females, please!
Deleteand our new Miss Universe Canada is....

very well said.. c:
Rules are rules. No discrimination taken.
DeleteNice one. Yes, rules are rules, after all.
DeleteI love your comment. Kudos to you for having the proper perspective.
DeleteWinner ang sagot mo. It's all about respect. ^_~
Deletewell said coming from a gay like you. may you be a good example for others. there's appropriate place for everyone and have rules that everyone must abide.
Deletei love your comment, and all the gays who posted their comments on this thread. very well said.
Deletekasi sometimes it's difficult to move with some gays kasi mashado silang sensitive that each time something is said or done lagi na lang discrimination ang sigaw nila.
i have cousins who are gay, and a best friend who out-ed himself to me after we graduated law school, so i really do appreciate this conversation :)
salamat salamat :)

pang miss-universe ang sagot! i like!
Deletenice! this exactly what i have in mind.
Deletenice one!
DeleteRules are rules... Why not join a transgender beauty pageant?
ReplyDeleteno descrimination on this case.s/he can join miss gay instead why for exclusive girl contest? tsk -tj
ReplyDeleteI am not anti-gay or anything, but beauty pageants with "Miss" in it, who also clearly states the criteria of of being a born female obviously only wants famale contestants.
ReplyDeleteThere is a reason why transgender(s) are called as such (or gay) because obviously, they are not female. No offense to gay people though.
i'm really just wondering.. pag transgender gay/lesbian, or cross-dressers lang which is marami dito sa atin, how do you address them? Sir or Ma'am? maybe the safest is yung biological gender talaga nila, but i get hesitant. tanong lang po. =)
ReplyDeleteIha, it boils down to respect. Respect their choice, and address them by gender. Meaning how they want to be seen, is often the gender you address them with. If they dress and look like women, then address with 'Ma'am'. Same goes with those who dress and look like men. Do so with simple politeness - never make a joke of it, unless they do so first.
DeleteYung biological SEX natin is private, and if you use that - you imply na 'YOU SHOULD BE MALE/FEMALE!' - which is rude. Try not to assume their SEX, you might be in for a very bad mistake kung babae pala talaga ang inakala mong iba.
ReplyDeleteJen-Jen
edit
Agree...
Deletewell said!!! paaaaaaaak
Deletei dont see any discrimination here. hindi sya nagsabi ng totoo kaya sya nakapasok sa contest. rules are rules, ganun talaga hindi sya qualified to join.
ReplyDeleteI agree, no discrimination here. It's like disallowing married women from joining beauty pageants like Ms Universe for the very obvious reason that they are no longer "Ms". Or women who are overweight or short/do not meet the minimum required height. Contestant was not a natural born woman. End of story. Besides, there are better platforms to further the GLBT advocacy than a beauty pageant.
ReplyDeleteNo discrimination. Let's not make a big deal of it. Besides, contestants of beauty pageants should be all natural (I'm talking about all:Male/Female). No enhancements. Why join in a beauty contest when at first, before you had done something with your face and body, you did not see yourself as a beauty??
ReplyDeleteI agree that there is no discrimination but I don't think walang cosmetic enhancements ang mga contestants.
DeleteAnonymousMar 28, 2012 02:20 PM - - What?
DeleteI think Ms Canada was in the wrong here, kasi unang una, (with all due respect to her), the rules say na "naturally-born females" lang ang pwede sumali.
ReplyDeleteAlso, logic lang. If there's a Miss Transgendered Universe pageant, sa tingin nio ba papayagan sumali dun ang isang tunay na babae? Malamang hinde kasi for Trannies lang yun. Rules are rules.
ReplyDeleteyour authenticated birth certificate will then come into play. =P
Hahaha
ReplyDeletei dont think nagpapapansin itong contestant na to, feeling ko may gusto lang patunayan. gusto magstand out sa lahat ng tunay na babae.
Deletewhen i saw this on tv, the first thing that crossed my mind was that the candidate has filipino blood bec of her surname....how did they discover that he is gay?just kind of thinking...what if they never discovered his gender and he won the pageant?
ReplyDeletethis is not a question of discrimination but of lying and deceiving pageant organizers.....
kaibigan ko po si jenna and there was no intent of lying and deception. hindi po cya gay, she is transgendered. iba po ang pagiging gay from being a transgendered woman. when a transwoman, after counselling and hormone therapy undergoes sex reassignment surgery she transitions to the person that she should be. telling somebody outright that you are transgendered is something very personal, even traumatic for some transwomen. disclosure usually is a at one's personal discretion. im not saying though that what she did was right, im just saying she meant well.

ReplyDeletesana po mabasa nyo po ung article with the link above. im a filipino transgendered woman based in toronto. siguro po mahirap intindihin para sa inyo kung bakit the transgenders all over the world are saying its discrimination kasi po there are many transgenders who identify as women (doctors call this condition as GID or gender identity disorder), kaya nga po we undergo counselling, hormone therapy and sex reassignment surgery. Sex reassignment surgery is not a cosmetic surgery po, we don't undergo this para gumanda, but to become the woman that we believe we are. hindi rin po ganon kadali ung operation, it is dangerous and very painful. After all the effort to become who we are now, siyempre po masakit para sa amin for one organization to tell us that we are lesser women. Hindi po kami nagpapapansin, we are simply asserting ourselves and our rights. Dito po sa canada, legal ang name change as well as sex change on paper. After your operation, lahat ng legal documents mo will be changed din. ano pa po ba ang dahilan ng legal change na yun kung hindi naman rerespetuin ng mga organizations dito. hindi po ako nagpapacontroversial and i absolutely am not lookin for a debate, im simply giving a transgedered womans point of view kase masakit din para sa amin ang mabasa ang comments when in reality hindi po ninyo naiintindihan ang mga saloobin ng mga transgenders.
teh, i'm with the fight against discrimination, pero in fernez sa ating mga sisterettes na tunay na girl, ibigay na natin sa kanila yan. good luck na lang po.
Delete.....but rules are rules...ginusto nyo gawin yan dba at syempre lahat naman may exemption.
ReplyDeleteanybody thought kung ano ba talaga ang tunay na characteristic to be a real woman? if you think na in spirit and in looks, then pasok siya? anatomical? i think not.
ReplyDeletethe essence of being a women is to give birth thats why hinde sya qualified
Deletewhat is the essence of being a women ? to give birth may obaryo ba sya oo bi ako pero nakakahiya naman kase na lahat nalang may discrimination na dahilan sa sususnod n panahon mga trans gender na ang magiging miss universe.... sana naman magkaroon tayo ng maayus na pananaw sa buhay wag mo isiksik sarili mo kung d talaga dapat.... at papaano naman ang mga totoong babae wala na silang karapatan.... nakakabastos kase at d katangap tangap na sumali sya.... meron naman mis gay diba ano ba gusto nya patunayan sa sarili nya.... diba biological dapat at walang gamit ng technology para masabing babae ka.... buti sana kung ipinanganak ka na dalawa ari mo siguro yun matatangap pa at may obaryo ka malamang pasok ka sa banga.... nasisira lang ang imahi ng mga beuty queen kung.... sana lahat ng mga miss univerce candidate e boikot ang pagent sana d na sila sumali kase nakakainsulto yung pagsali niya.... wag na sana sumali ang tunay na babae sa pagent ibigay nyo nalang s kanya crown.... kahihiyan sa babae ang pagsali ng transgender sa contest.... sa susunod maskuladong trans gender na mukhang lalaki na ang sasali sa miss univerce kung pwede pala ang trandgender ehhh ...... respeto nyo naman ang babae kahit dito lang... wala namang discrimination ehhhh.... its about the essence of being a women nalang dapat who can give birth ... yun lang :)
