The gist of her comment is true. However, she should have also taken into consideration that NOT all parts of the USA is clean and peaceful. What if a Pinoy went to that part of the US and made the same comment? I'm sure she'd feel the same way most of us are feeling now. Miss Earth United States 2011 Nicole Kelley I know that there has been something maliciously circulated about me and I want everyone to know that I ABSOLUTELY did NOT say anything of the sort I am very sorry about this!!! Someone hacked my account and has been posting comments as me. I was at a community garden tour this morning when it was posted and I am very disappointed in whomever would be so malicious!!!! Cyber- bullying should NEVER be tolerated and as Miss Earth US I won't tolerate it either!!! On a better note I am ABSOLUTELY enjoying my time here in the Philippines, the people are fantastic!! Our hotel at the Oakwood is beautiful and I can't wait till all the other girls arrive!!! Hope to post pictures soon!

Miss Earth USA was just being honest on her wall post. Most of the cities here in our country are filthy. Blame it to ourselves, this is what our country has become.
But generally speaking, it's only Manila that's dirty, touchy and icky. When Filipino look at women, it's sticky and disrespectful. Don't say that the only thing free in the world is to look.

totoo namn yun na madumi at maingay sa Manila pero hindi nmn sa buong Pilipinas. Kasi nmn nagkalat ang maraming basura at mga illegal settlers. Yun mga pinagkatiwalaan kasi na mga lider ng bansa di ginagawa ng maayos ang nakaatang na responsibilidad nila. Sana din gawin din ng mga mamamayan ang kanilang share sa community. as a citizen of the Philippines and a resident of Manila i still agree with her phrase "dirty and noisy". manila is, as everyone can see, dirty and noisy. the minute anyone lands in any airport anywhere in the philippines can say this place is not a very advanced country overall.
however- it is tactless and bad taste to go on about it all over facebook.
in short, there is a fine line between being diplomatic and tactless!

We have to admit that there is some truth to what she said of our country. However, I think she could've said them in a more constructive way that would reflect her good breeding, maturity, and etiquette. Clearly, she has very little.
instead of being upset over her comments, why don't we just prove her wrong by keeping our surroundings clean, and being courteous and respectful to fellow filipinos and visitors alike?

React all you want, but what she said is true. Unfortunately for her, someone conveniently got a screen shot of what she said. I would rather have someone who's honest than a fake beauty queen. oh wait, FAKE beauty queen is kinda overkill... because they really fake their smiles. :p

We can't blame people from commenting negatively about our country. I don't live in Manila, but whenever I go there, I keep wishing that I could go back home. It's true. Manila is dirty and noisy. Every time I get back to my hotel while I was there, I needed to clean up entirely because every pollution will stick on my skin, my clothes.
Just because a non-Filipino commented like that, we'll react badly about it. We'll make it a big deal, say that America is like this and like that, and discriminating Americans are like this and like that.
But look around you before you actually say that Nicole Lynn is a bitch for making that status. Whatever we do or say, Philippines is never half of what America is, right now.

It's basic courtesy not to speak in the vernacular whenever you're around someone who don't speak the local language.
How would you feel kung nasa China ka at biglang yung mga hosts mo, nag Chinese at di mo maintindihan? Diba nakakabastos yun kse for all you know iniinsulto ka na!

that's the prob when u post something negative in facebook. broadcast kasi sa lahat yun kaya ingat lagi. On her comment, everything about the Philippines is true..sad to say. Mas marami talaga yung place na madumi kaysa malinis. That is a fact! Unless we do something about it, it will always be like that.
Side note, i think the reason madumi ang pinas is bec madaming influx of people from province na dumating here na wala talagang matutuluyan kaya they resulted to squatting which eventually blocked drainages etc. Also dinala narin nila yung "probinsyano/naive" attitude na kung saan saan lang magtapon ng basura at kung ano ano pa. I know this may look mean pero one way or another totoo. Di ko nilalahat na basta taga province uncultured. Kasi nung 70's, maayos naman ang Manila based sa mga archive pics.

Im working here in the Middle East and each time I come home for Christmas or during my annual leave, u just cant help but ewww in disgust sa airport pa lang dahil s poor facilities. Tpos pagdating mo s parking, andian ang mga beggars na kahit anong currency daw tatanggapin nila, kaloka! This is just a wake-up call for our government. Di dapat mag-balat sibuyas. Totoo nmn na pag andito ako, mejo nakakatakot magtravel kahit naka-taxi ka kase madidilim ang ibang kalsada and pag na-stuck ka pa s traffic, prang halos gusto ko nang magtago sa ilalim ng seat dahil minsan nakakatakot ung paligid esp. sa N.Domingo, Monumento, etc where some poor peeps live. Hinde nmn po sa nangmamata, pero sana mailagay sila sa lugar na di sila msyadong exposed at maging eyesore. Tama naman ang sinabi nya na Manila is dirty & noisy. Wag maging pikon. Open your eyes. Kitang-kita naman. Mas tama din sya na we have ridiculous variety shows (& nakakabobong TV shows). ReplyDeleteThe gist of her comment is true. However, she should have also taken into consideration that NOT all parts of the USA is clean and peaceful. What if a Pinoy went to that part of the US and made the same comment? I'm sure she'd feel the same way most of us are feeling now. The thing is, since she is considered a celebrity, she should have just observed being tactful in her social network comments/status update. And to us Pinoys, we should take these criticisms constructively. For foreigners not to say such things, we should do something about it.

Someone hacked my account and has been posting comments as me. I was at a community garden tour this morning when it was posted and I am very disappointed in whomever would be so malicious!!!! Cyber- bullying should NEVER be tolerated and as Miss Earth US I won't tolerate it either!!! On a better note I am ABSOLUTELY enjoying my time here in the Philippines, the people are fantastic!! Our hotel at the Oakwood is beautiful and I can't wait till all the other girls arrive!!! Hope to post pictures soon!

Like mapadpad sila sa Megamall, heaven forbid they rub elbows with the masses. Well, totoo naman talaga sinabi nya. Let's open our eyes and acknowledge that the problem exists (madumi at maingay). That's the only way we can actually start working on solving the problem. Wag tyo magbulagbulagan. Kaya di tyo umaasenso kse we can't take the truth!

totoo namn yun na madumi at maingay sa Manila pero hindi nmn sa buong Pilipinas. Kasi nmn nagkalat ang maraming basura at mga illegal settlers. Yun mga pinagkatiwalaan kasi na mga lider ng bansa di ginagawa ng maayos ang nakaatang na responsibilidad nila. Sana din gawin din ng mga mamamayan ang kanilang share sa community. Masakit marinig sa iba pero ganun din nmn ang magiging reaksyon o komento natin kung napunta din tayo sa isang lugar na madumi at magulo.

ReplyDeleteWe have to admit that there is some truth to what she said of our country. However, I think she could've said them in a more constructive way that would reflect her good breeding, maturity, and etiquette. Clearly, she has very little.

ReplyDeleteWe can't blame people from commenting negatively about our country. I don't live in Manila, but whenever I go there, I keep wishing that I could go back home. It's true. Manila is dirty and noisy. Every time I get back to my hotel while I was there, I needed to clean up entirely because every pollution will stick on my skin, my clothes.

But look around you before you actually say that Nicole Lynn is a bitch for making that status. Whatever we do or say, Philippines is never half of what America is, right now.

It's basic courtesy not to speak in the vernacular whenever you're around someone who don't speak the local language.
How would you feel kung nasa China ka at biglang yung mga hosts mo, nag Chinese at di mo maintindihan? Diba nakakabastos yun kse for all you know iniinsulto ka na!

ReplyDeleteSide note, i think the reason madumi ang pinas is bec madaming influx of people from province na dumating here na wala talagang matutuluyan kaya they resulted to squatting which eventually blocked drainages etc. Also dinala narin nila yung "probinsyano/naive" attitude na kung saan saan lang magtapon ng basura at kung ano ano pa. I know this may look mean pero one way or another totoo. Di ko nilalahat na basta taga province uncultured. Kasi nung 70's, maayos naman ang Manila based sa mga archive pics.
Back to her comment, medyo off lang yung sinabi nya na there's no competition. you only say that to people u are close with and as a joke!

Nicole is just comparing her country to ours, nothing wrong with it. It's her right naman dba? There are nice places in Manila naman sana dun sya dinala hahaha but the pollution is really horrible, when i came to visit a few months ago i had to take 3 showers a day BUT I STILL LOVE MANILA :) no place like home :)

I thought racism was a major blunder to commit. Yes, some of those lines stung us but she should have been classy enough and kept herself from being rude. Back in your place you have ghettos and slums too. Small girls out there will be watching for pre and post pageant updates, idolizing these beauty queens. Right now these little girls, they'll be thinking it's okay to be rude, it's okay to chastise another country and their culture in public, and an environment advocate can be as tactless as she pleases.

Maybe we should stop fawning people and exhausting them with those fancy activities....We should all help in cleaning and making a better Philippines. That's what we should do. Criticisms are golden opportunities to improve - they reveal things that we fail to see in ourselves in our overly righteous and misplaced sense of being. Just saying. I love the Philippines and am doing my very best to make it better.

let's admit, what she just said is true. yes, the truth hurts. but instead of attacking her, why not see this as a challenge to every Filipino to improve our nation. the more we deny ourselves about this reality we are becoming hypocrites of our own selves.

Im working here in the Middle East and each time I come home for Christmas or during my annual leave, u just cant help but ewww in disgust sa airport pa lang dahil s poor facilities. Tpos pagdating mo s parking, andian ang mga beggars na kahit anong currency daw tatanggapin nila, kaloka! This is just a wake-up call for our government. Di dapat mag-balat sibuyas. Totoo nmn na pag andito ako, mejo nakakatakot magtravel kahit naka-taxi ka kase madidilim ang ibang kalsada and pag na-stuck ka pa s traffic, prang halos gusto ko nang magtago sa ilalim ng seat dahil minsan nakakatakot ung paligid esp. sa N.Domingo, Monumento, etc where some poor peeps live. Hinde nmn po sa nangmamata, pero sana mailagay sila sa lugar na di sila msyadong exposed at maging eyesore. Sometimes I wish nga na mabili ng Ayala's lahat ng lugar sa Manila para mapaganda nila ung vicinity. Di ba ang gaganda ng landscaping sa Greenbelt, Trinoma at Nuvali?
