I would like to share my frustration with this certain hospital. My 6 month old daughter has been vomiting for 2 days and upon the advice of her pediatrician, we brought her to the emergency room of certain hospital for blood test.
Our problem started the moment we stepped in emergency room. We waited for more than an hour for a blood test procedure that could have been over in a few minutes. I approached the staff from time to time to follow up if someone was already available to do the procedure but everyone was just too busy.
When I asked the nurses as to why it is taking them so long, they repeatedly told me that there was only one medical technician on duty. I understand that it was a Sunday, but there were more than 50 patients in the pedia section alone. How could they afford to have only one person taking blood from all these patients?
After waiting for more than an hour, we eventually got fed up and demanded to be released from this hospital. When we arrived in this newly built hospital in the neighboring city, the staff immediately attended to my daughter and gave her all the necessary tests.
Fashion PULIS, I am writing to you so that you readers will know better not to go to the first hospital that we went to in case of emergency. If they do so, they will have to wait in line before they get the proper medical attention.

ReplyDeleteAng hospital ba na ito eh sa Pembo, Makati? - dito talaga, kahit sabihing government, mamamatay ka ata sa sobrang kupad ng ER. Uncontrolled hypertension ng mom ko, naghintay kami ng 4d minutes sa ER. Emergency case kaya yun. Kainis. Napabalita na ito dati na maraming neonatal deaths eh.
Bakit naman yan agad ang sagot mo?

ReplyDeleteganyan din dito sa US. minsan nga 4hrs. pa! buti nga 1hr ka lang nag antay No! kaya ako nag papa appt. na lang ako dahil 20 mins lang ang pinaka matagal na hihintayin mo. :)

ReplyDeletei think i know this hospital. i broke my arm few years back and we went to this hospital where i had xray and all other tests but after after more than an hour we were still waiting for an actual doctor. we just decided to leave the hospital

hindi lang naman sa Pinas may ganyan. i live in Canada po pero ganyan din ang situation sa emergency ng mga hospitals. children's man sya or nde. mabilis na yung maghintay ka ng 3hrs sa totoo lang... kahit po sa pedia,hangga't nde life threatening ang case mo nde ka talaga aasikasuhin agad.

ReplyDeleteThere is such a thing as triage. In big hospitals, they usually categorize patients according to the gravity of their case. They usually prioritize the most toxic ones over the cases that are not life threatening. The letter did nt mention if the 2nd hospital was as busy & packed as the 1st one.

Possible lang kasi the hospital might opt to ignore the post. FP is playing safe and yes, the reader is venting too. It's a blog so if FP deems the letter post worthy wala kayo magagawa. If you're annoyed then don't read. Kaya nga blind item, the names are never revealed. First line pa lang, lam mo na letter.

ReplyDeleteER's screen their patients by order of urgency. While you may have felt your daughter's case was top priority, maybe there were other patients who needed immediate attention or maybe there were many who got there ahead of you. Tama lang na you transferred to another hospital nalang. Pero petty naman to be stressing over it so much, sa blind item pa. What you should do is write the hospital mismo and raise your concerns. Take constructive action!

Naku matagal talaga service ng ER dyan! Inabot din ako ng ilang oras kaka intay. Pangit sistema nila dyan, nasa ER ka na nga, WAITING ka naman. Depende daw sa severity ng nararandaman mo. Worst thing is mali ang naging diagnosis sa akin!

ReplyDeleteI think one of the best hospitals in the Philippines would be the Asian Hospital in Alabang. I have been to their ER, it's very clean and they have separate rooms for each of the patients. They have the best service, not to mention doctors and nurses too! I just hope you mention the name of the hospital..what for pa if you won't it? Who knows?
ReplyDeleteIn any emergency room naman of any proper hospital, having that much patients inside the emergency room at one time and you having a non-life-threatening case would always mean you would wait for a long time. Lalo na't fifty yan, as you've said.
ReplyDeleteIn triage, as long as your case could handle it, you will be asked to wait. Maybe what happened was that while the urgent cases were being attended to, more urgent cases came up so you were bumped and bumped further along the waiting list. Remember that lives of people are at stake in the emergency room and that the people working there are doing their best in catering to the people in the most effective way as possible. Iba't iba lang ng level ng emergency yan, at sorry ka nalang kung hindi ka priority dahil di naman nakamamatay yang case mo. Hindi kaya laging ganyan kadami ang toxic cases sa ER para magrequire ng 50 blood tests at a time.
People should be more understanding and think of other people besides themselves.
Hi i was the one who wrote the letter. I did mention the name of the hospital but i guess FP is just being careful about any legal action they can take against him. I am complaining because if i don't who will do so for my 6 month old daughter? She's the one who was in an emergency and her pedia was concerned enough with her condition to warrant a trip to an emergency room. If this hospital was really busy, wouldn't adding at least 1 more person to take blood samples make their job much easier and more efficient?

I get it that this is FP's blog, and I even follow him on Twitter. FP is warning his followers on Twitter not to go to this hospital, but which hospital is it? So really what's the use of this post kung ung pinakaimportanteng information is not mentioned.

ReplyDeleteSa akin nga mas malala. pinaghintay ako for 8 hours. puro resident doctors ang nag attend sa akin. nag brain storming sila sa sakit ko. kung ano ano ng test ginawa sa akin. Imbyerna talaga. lumabas na lang ako sa hospital ng hindi man lang ako nireresetahan ng gamot. ang sabi hula daw nila sa stones. after a week pumunta ako M, at dun ang bilis. Uti pala at nabigyan ako agad ng antibiotics. after that incident, hindi na talaga ako bumalik sa S near moa. from the start dun pa naman hospital namin, pero after that incident, ayoko na talaga bumalik!

ReplyDeletei think you are talking about M & S sa fort, ganito na nga sa makati med eversince nag-renovate sila, nawalan na sila ng sistema, deadma na sila sa pila kung sino nauna (I'm talking after ma-segregate na anu ung gravity ng case), for example, dun ka naclassify sa pinaka-mababaw, uupo ka na lang dun at deadma ka na nila, dati kc matagal talaga pero makikita mo sunod-sunod naman, siguro mga around 7 lang lagi ang patients na nagaantay kc tuloy-tuloy naman ang pag-aasikaso, pero ngayon mga lagpas 20 patients na at wala sila ginagawa, as in deadma, kung sino lang mangulit o magtanung un ang aasikasuhin, nawalan na sila ng sistema

Same goes for all who have complained or plan to complain about dep stores, supermarkets, salons, etc.--name names instead of subjecting everyone to a guessing game that's a total waste of time.

I assume these hospitals are private since it's stupid to expect much from Gov't hospitals. The second hospital being newly-built is a giveaway but the first hospital, the problematic one, is vague. It is grossly UNFAIR to the innocent hospitals because there are other hospitals "in the next city" that may be blamed for something they didn't do. This looks like a PR demolition job, shotgun style.
ReplyDeleteBased on the clues, I think this is the hospital where I always go. I was in the ER, life and death situation ako, so nauna ako. What gets me is, the cardio assigned to me wanted to give me a pacemaker. Oorder na daw siya sa Singapore. After getting a second opinion...I didn't need one after all. 1M din yun. Punyeta siya. I transferred to a less "sexy" hospital, but the doctors are more experienced and not trigger happy as that stupid stupid man.
ReplyDeleteI went to the ER in the US twice - first when I fell off by bike and injured my foot, the second, when I accompanied my cousin who slipped in the bathtub. Matagal din maghintay.

This practice is turning me off.
Ang hula ko dito yung hospital na may hospital rin kung nasaan si GMA ngayon. Pero for me lang, kung hindi ka mattendan sa ER, andami namang laboratories outside this hospital. Why not have the blood test taken there instead? Then show the results to their doctor na lang afterwards. Credible din naman sila kase most doctors from this hospital dun pinapagawa yung mga tests na ganyan kung nagmamadali pasyente and mas cheaper. Mapapamahal ka pa sa ER mismo nung hospital. Kesa naman maglagi ka sa ER na walang nag aasikaso sayo. I mean maraming patients ahead of you na need din attendan.

ReplyDeletebut i do agree that this post is not worth posting at all. if not an urgent case, you can't be entertained that fast. and the letter sender already stated the reason why.. "but everyone was just too busy" and there were 50 more patients. they were in the hospital for a blood test and not for an imminent death situation that would call for an immediate attention.

ER personnels usually identify the presented case into which of the 3 categories: life-threatening, needs immediate attention, tsaka not life-threatening. experienced medical workers usually know how assess a patient if his case really needs immediate attention, or they can attend to those who are between life and death first. vomitting infant vs. patient who presented with 0 pulse, 0 heart rate, sino ang mas uunahin mo? first come, first served basis just won't work in the ER with too many patients. it will cost life.

ive worked as a med technologist in a certain hospital before and i kinda relate and feel sorry for the MT on duty , madalas talaga esp pag weekends puno ang ER bec clinic are closed and you will receive a lot ofblood extraction requests ,and since its ER first come first serve doesnt follow kung isa ka lang na nageextract ng blood , you have to prioritize the most severe cases (critical cases) minsan nasa pedia ka na ipapage ka or susunduin ng nurse bec u are badly needed in critical area,i understand na u r worried for ur own patient pero sana be compassionate/understanding din naman for other patients .If u have some concern im sure you can write a complain and give it to their patients relation office/personnel .

ReplyDeleteif you have a problem with the hospital, then write the hospital admin and/or the department of health. if you have a problem with the doctor/nurses, write the philippine regulation commission and the philippine medical/nurses association.

Being at A Hospital for a few ER cases we had, it seems we didn't encounter any of these experiences. We are duly accomodated within the first 10 mins we arrive at the ER, regardless of the severity of the case. Sometimes when you come in in a wheelchair, a triage nurse will meet you immediately.. During these ER visits, it didn't matter if there are many people in the ER or not, their turnaround time for response remains the same. There were times that during the observation period in the ER took a while that coincided when there are toxic cases in the ER, but at least initial diagnosis and treatment have already been given to the patient. Asian Hosp so far has given an excellent service to patients.

I would just like to share a memorable experience I had around a year ago, when I met an accident, and broke my left arm, and had a deep cut right above my left eye. I was brought to St. Luke's Hospital in E.Rodriguez QC, and I was attended to right away, probably due to the obvious reason that I was bleeding furiously. Yes, it's absolutely true that emergency rooms do give priority to urgent cases which need to be attended to right away. There were several other patients waiting that time when I was rushed in the E.R., but they were not bleeding or anything like that. So, it's not really a first come-first serve basis. The E.R. is not a fastfood chain or a restaurant where the first in line gets served first. I would like to personally commend St. Luke's, both in QC and in Global City...very efficient and very sanitary. And mind you, it's worth every cent.

Ilang beses na rin ako nadala dito, wala naman akong choice because taga-dun lang ako sa condo malapit, hindi naman ako puwede sa Ospital ng Makati. Kung hindi niyo alam anong hospital to, obviously, hindi kayo taga-Makati. Kaming mga taga-Makati kasi alam na panget service dun!

ReplyDelete1st we have to consider what type of hospital you went to, kung public eh goodluck matagal talaga. kung private matagal din but hindi ganun ka severe compared sa public/govt.
2nd triage. it depends on the severity of the situation. kung may nag aarest, sino uunahin mo? yung mamamatay na kadadating lang or yung nagsusuka na may 1 hr na nakapila?
3rd number of patients. the more patients siyempre mas matagal. baka kaya mas mabilis yung sa 2nd kasi oonti lang patients.
4th number of doctors. i myself am a doctor, mejo kulang talaga ang number ng doctors. ive experienced before na mag 1 lang akong duty at 145 ata pasyente ko. kindly understand na iisa lang ang katawan ng doctor at di namin mapapagsabay sabay yan. ganun kasi talaga ang situation, 5-6 lang kaming 36 hours duty. at 100-150 ang pasyente na nakaadmit, pwera pa ang nasa er nun. kung gusto niyo ng mas mabilis na service dun kayo sa madami na hinahire na doctor/staff. sana maintindihan niyo na nakakapagod ang 36-40 hours kang gising every 3 days tapos underpaid pa. hahaha
yun lang naman :) i dont mean to have an arguement with the letter sender, i just want to defend my collegues and profession.
hayyyy.... ano nalang kaya kung sa PGH ka pumunta!

AGREED AKO JAN TEH... PANGET KASI ANG MEDICARE SA PINAS LALO NA SA PUBLIC HOSPITAL. KAWAWA NAMAN TAYONG MGA TAX PAYER AN NDI NATIN NAUSUSLIT NAG BENIFITS NA DAPAT AY SA ATIN. YUNG MAG IABNG BANSA ANG AGAGNDA NG MEDICARE, MAGANDA NAG TREATMENT KHIT GOVT HOSPITAL. D2 SA ATIN EH, SA PRIVATE HOSPITAL LNG ANG MAGANDA ANG CARE.. NOT ALL, PERO KARAMIHAN NG PRIVATE OK NAMAN ANG TREATMENT S PATIENT.
C LETTER SENDER DAPT SA HOSPITAL NAG REKLAMO, AT HINDI ANAMN EMERGENCY CASE UN ANAK NYA, KC NGA BLOODTEST, SANA SA LABORATORY SYA PUMUNTA, MALI ANG NAPUNTAHAN NYA, EMERGENCY KSI, KUNG MAMAMTAY NA, O NAAKSIDENTE NA KAILANAGN ISALBA ANG BUHAY, HINDI YUN PWEPWEDE PANG MAG-INTAY.
I've been dealing with this case most of the time. Relatives get angry most of the time. Explaining to them about the TRIAGING SYSTEM will be lengthy and a waste of time. If you are going to explain it to them in Layman's term they get offended.
ReplyDeleteMy dear people try to understand that we are doing our best to cater everyone. We understand that you think that your case is an EMERGENCY. But we should PRIORITIZE other patients as well. Its not always a FIRST COME FIRST SERVE BASIS.
Another problem of not naming or giving even some clues of the hospital or the department store or fast food or food brands etc. Pwedeng mamali or maapektuhan yung mga inosenteng establishments... If legality is the problem, better not post it rather than create confusion or chaos.

If you're letting us be aware of your frustrations or warning us, you should give the name of the hospital, otherwise, this is useless.
ReplyDeleteLahat naman ng maysakit feeling nila priority sila. E.R has the thing called triage. Isip isip muna letter sender bago ka makipag warla at mang badmouth ng mga hospital.

ReplyDeleteSo I guess the Pediatrician at that time had no option but to cater to the mother's erring, overrated complain/channeled symptomatology from her daughter.... which I guess was valid since baby pa nga...
But mind you 2 days of vomiting? Bakit ngayon ka lang nag-worry?
While most parents, especially kung may vomiting yung infant/baby would exaggerate and go to the ER few moments from the start of the symptoms.
If your infant/baby is really having signs of DEHYDRATION, the first thing that should have been done should be oral/IV hydration depending on the severity..... and not wait for a Blood extraction/blood tests to be done.
ReplyDeleteMy Guess here why the Pedia opted for admission: O.A. and demanding parents-----the doctor just wanted to avoid litigation or mukha lang din siyang PERA and the doctor needs PF.
