Last Saturday, My Thinspiration, Shirley, marched down the aisle in her Pepsi Herrera wedding gown. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Edson and Shirley Tee!
This is how she looks after more than a year of serious work out and strict diet (no treatments or surgery).
She lost more than 200 pounds. Her nephew was her inspiration. She loved him so much she wanted to be able to play and run around with him. So whenever she's on the treadmill, she imagines that she is running after her cute nephew.
Shirley also met her husband, Edson, while working out at the gym.

ReplyDeleteI agree with Anonymous Nov 2, 1249am: kung gusto magreduce ng weight, kaya. Not bec of reasons na Polycystic Ovaries. Ako, I have that condition. Pero discipline lang talaga. I'm 5ft, almost 40y/o, and I fall into my ideal weight (100-105llbs). I eat whatever I like pero all in moderation. No gym for me. My exercise is when I go up&down the stairs.
She's a beautiful and NATURAL testament that one does not need Belo, Calayan, or Marie France. She has DISCIPLINE. Cheers to you, Shirley!

I think I met her before! She's really pretty in person and super nice. Never seen her before photos, but OMG EXAG! Re: excess skin, pansin ko lang her arms nga were kind of saggy but nothing a 3/4 sleeved shirt can't handle. Other than that, you'd NEVER have guess she weighed so much less than a year ago.

I'm sorry to be the only rotten egg here... but I really can't believe she lost all that weight in ten months WITH NOTHING DONE. I've seen a lot of amazing weight loses and there definitely are traces of the damage done due to being extremely obese - like sagging skin (especially in the arms and abdomen)and stretch marks.
ReplyDeleteOf course her weight loss is inspiring... who wouldn't admire that. Kaya lang parang misleading naman masyado ang kwento nya. You don't get to be that big in just a few years - tapos mawawala nalang yung lahat ng fats in a mere 10 months? With discipline and determination? Where was the discipline and determination all these years? Complete change of mindset and lifestyle in 10 months? Tapos nag melt LAHAT ng stubborn fats that accumulated all these years? (As in, walang natira! You can see the bones in her clavicle na...)

ReplyDeletei agree kay Anon 9:39...though i must say that it is possible to lose all the weight in just a matter of months (take biggest loser), but i have to argue about the claim that there was nothing done surgically to remove all the excess skin. even those in biggest loser had their excess skin tucked that's why it took long for the show to be aired and even longer pause after it ended becoz they had to do something about the sagging skin from all the lost weight. in as much as this story is inspiring, and i must admit, i was inspired by her determination to slim down, but i dont think this article is entirely true.

perhaps, she can write about her experience - as in by herself and not some writer from a fitness company to inspire more people. my guess is it's really a drastic cut in food intake, willpower, and discipline. (add depression and the desire to have a better self-image)

Imposibleng walang nag sag na skin kase short period of time sya nag lose ng weight. baka nag papa rf yan. Hindi maaachhieve ng ganyan na agad agad. laylay skin, stretchmarks etc.

Iba naman yung having surgery to remove excess skin from all the weight lost sa surgery to remove all your fat. Inggit lang kayo.

ReplyDeletenakita niya ang panahong malaki pa ako... unti unti kong pagliit, nandyan siya lagi to support me and he has always adjust to the food na kinakain ko, kahit na siya ang hindi busog at palagi siyang gutom tinitiis niya for me para lang I can have the lunch dinner merienda breakfast na baon ko... he has always been very very supportive... hanggang ngayon.. rain or shine he stayed by my side until nakuha ko ang pangarap kong timbang =) now we do diet and cook food together... =) we do our own diet meal eh... =)

some of the the contestants in Biggest Loser lost more than 100lbs in 4 months. 200 lbs in 10months is possible although i am not sure if the rapid weight loss is good for the body.

I started my own goal of losing 10 lbs in 1 month just last Oct 31. After my 3rd day walking on the treadmill, I still feel motivated that I could achieve my desired weight. ReplyDeleteshirley lam, did you do the Cohen Diet? I lost 89 lbs in 7 months. Maintaining for 2.5 mos. already. Doable, pero dapat conscious lagi sa carb and sugar intake. I also have loose skin pero it is shrinking little by little na. Sabi 1 to 2 years daw aantayin ko and no need for surgery.

Self discipline really works! Ung asawa ko mataba din before nung 3rd year hs kmi, then after summer vacay, nagulat kming lahat sa laki ng ipinayat niya, kala nga namin new student kasi nag-iba itsura.

ReplyDeletenung una po 6 times a day po ako sa gym.. kumuha actually ako ng trainer dahil ayaw nga akong tanggapin na mag isa coz i'm too big and di ko talaga kaya... tapos po karamihan ng workout ko is circuit kasi po kailangan kong pawisan nd mapagod.. lose weight program talaga ang workout routine ko... with reards sa food grabe!!!! ito ang madugo... haha madami dami tayo dapat iwasan... like yung food na high in fat and mga chips po no.! po yan kung makataba...

Assuming this is an ingenious marketing ploy from a certain fitness center, it should not negate the results of Shirley. She worked hard for it. The gym helped but Shirley can claim credit for the bulk of the hard work. She inspires me to lose weight but I know better than to come running to this gym since I'm familiar with the various atrocities it continues to commit - and I'm pretty sure most of the readers are aware of these atrocities as well. Let's not deprive Shirley of the joy of enjoying her achievement. So the gym wants to capitalize on it, that makes the gym the "villain" but this shouldn't take away the fact that Shirley deserves a big pat on the back. For the one who posted about diets not making anyone lose weight permanently, tell us something we don't know. We ask Shirley to share her journey because it's inspiring, not because we'll take whatever she says as the biblical truth on weight loss. Madaming nega talaga.

Shirley, potato chips and chichiria are also my weakness, as in super, super weakness. What kind of snacks did you have to replace them? Or what healthy snacks would you recommend for those "afternoon munchies" or cravings?? (naku please don't say raw carrots...) Also, did you cut down on rice too?

Meron nga rin po palang ibang way ng pag diet pag hindi kaya ng oras niyo ang maging meals and plan ahead, meron po yung 75% diet na tinatawg nila.. French women does this po effective din po to... Edible portion ng meal then remove or share niyo po yung 25% sa kasama niyo para 75% lang ang makakain niyo... although mas mabagal po ang result nito =)
actually po yung mga diet softdrinks and mga zero calories na softdrinks wala nga po siyang calories pero po kasi ang nangyayari make u crave more po.. dahil meron pa rin po silang caffeine, kaya sometimes notice niyo kung yung isang restaurant walang offer na coke zero, diet coke, of coke light eh ang tendency you order for regular coke dahil po you can't stand the crave dahil natitikman niyo pa rin yung lasa ng caffeince ng softdrinks.. ako po kasi completely po tinigil ko na po siya para di ko siya hahanap hanapin... sa awa naman po ni Lord eh isang taon na higit hindi ko na po siya naiisip inumin... coffee po ang i-replace niyo if you have cravings na hindi niyo kayang labanan.. mapa-cake, ice cream pa mana yang kine-crave niyo coffee po ang katapat to subside the cravings... since coffee is zero calories...
ReplyDeleteadik po ako sa v-cut at potato chips noon, lalo na ang lays ruffles and mga cheetos hehehe... lahat po yan nakakataba.. pwede ko rin po kayong turuan magbasa ng label kung gusto niyo po... hehehe notice po ang lays po is approximately 1 big pack nasa 700- 1000 calories siya... ako po kasi when enjoy ako sa palabas kain po ako ng kain, minsan nakakaya kong siyang maubos ng isang upuan lang po... kung nakain at naubos ko po siya meaning kalahating araw ng pagkain na pwede ko lang kainin nakain ko na... isang malaking pack ng lays po katumbas ng 6 cups of rice po.. hindi pa po counted doon ang mga fats na nakin niyo hehehe pwede ko rin po kayong turuan mag read... kukuha po ako ng sample some other day haha...

ReplyDeleteGood call on the diet soda, shirley! Totoo yun. I stopped drinking soda and I didn't gain any more weight. This is not to say I'm payat na now, but thing is, steady na weight ko. When I was drinking softdrinks pa, even the diet ones, you really want to eat pa, thus I gained all this weight. But now I'm steady. Konting disiplina na lang and I'll lose it. Salamat, shirley!

I love you Shirley. This inspires people. I love Mr. Chips that has 170 calories per 100G pack. I don't eat it everyday. I only eat one big pack during my off. It's hard for me to lose weight.
ReplyDeleteI hate it coz I can't find time to go to the gym coz of a busy schedule. My body-clock is reversed. I work in a call center, so for approximately 8 hours, I sit--and it's air-conditioned in the office so i really don't get to sweat. After lunch break, I sit again.
So the only thing I can do to diet is to watch I eat and the amount of what I eat.
So please, if you can give us advice when it comes to what we should and shouldn't eat that'd be a big help. :)

Okay... I totally understand that about the Lays coz I'm exactly like that too!! I can finish one big bag in one sitting. The problem is, finding low fat snacks to replace the chips. Parang wala masyadong healthy alternatives in the grocery eh. (pag healthy options super mahal naman.) Super hirap kasi when you have cravings for something to munch on, especially when may PMS ka.

Ms. Shirley, concerned lang po. Taking stimulants such as drinks with caffeine makes you prone to more acidity, GERD and ulcer.
ReplyDeleteI suggest drinking water instead. Especially before a meal and replacing meals with lean protein. Tamang carbs is ok for cardio, of course.
I had GERD kasi months ago. I was drinking coffee, coke zero mga ganon favorite ko.
Ms shirley, I always see you sa posters in the gym. Ang galing mo po! I hope I could be like you, it's really hard to cut off those junkies. How'dya do it? I am really fat right now (obese 3). I maybe fat but I can do real intense workout. Can you give me some tips?

ReplyDeletecongratulations Shirley! This is truly an inspiring story. I got into healthy living as well about a year ago and I'm very much enjoying the benefits of it! Although I was not really on the big side when I started, my main goal was to really be lean, improve my body composition and overall health (I guess this should be more of a priority than just losing weight).
ReplyDeleteI went to the gym 6 times a week, 3 for cardio (30-60 minutes) and 3 for weight training (full body). In two months, I lost 20 lbs and achieved my goal (now just maintaining it). I know it's not much but as most people trying to lose weght would say, it's the last few pounds that are most difficult to get rid of and my experience just disproved this myth.
Here are some of the things I learned reading through health materials and talking to experts:
1. Incorporate lean protein in your diet. Protein takes more calories to burn meaning kahit nakarest lang ang body mo nagbeburn na siya ng calories just trying to burn the protein.
2. Weight training does not necessarily make you muscular and big. In fact, weight
training is the best way to gain lean muscles for the abs and toned arms that you are aiming for. Being big also depends on what you eat.
3. Fat and muscle are two different things so your fat does not really turn to muscle. What happens is that muscles are more "high maintenance" that it burns off your fats kaya mukhang nagiging muscles ung fat.
4. Try not to weigh yourself daily. When you do chances are sobrang magiguilty ka when you gain one pound and then you'll eat less. Eating less and less will jsut screw up your metabolism and long term mas tataba ka.
5. Eat 5-6 small meals a day. This will pump up your metabolism.
6. Jot down what you eat and do. This will help you see your calorie/protein/carbs intake vs. what you're burning.
7. Switch to brown rice and wheat bread. Acquired taste lang yang mga yan. White rice/white bread or anything process takes less time to break down in the system thus burning less calories.

eat small portion meal pero at least 5 times a day ang kain niyo and never skip a meal para bumilis po ang metabolism niyo... someone mention about the metabolism earlier but the truth is eating 5 to 6 times increases your metabolism by 20% po meaning mas marami po kayong nasusunog by eating maraming beses...
skipping meals can lead to obesity dahil you tend to eat more on your next meal.
it pays to check the label po.
avoid fried food... avoid eating too much red meat.. go for white meat more kaysa sa red meat... pero kailangan pa ri niyo kumain ng red meat pero instead na daily make it twice or trice a week lang...
eat lots of fruits and veggies kasi po it will help detoxify your body and help you feel fuller faster
eat food that are high in fiber, kasi po it will help you guys feel fuller longer.
protein meal can be increase po later on na kapag nag to-toning ang shaping na kayo... me kasi now is in the stage of toning ang shaping na eh...
cardio cardio cardio... believe it or not I do my cardio 1 hour prior before workout then 1 hour workout with trainer then 30 mins more cardio after...
hydrate always do remember to hydrate kasi important siya eh para di kayo mag mukhang tuyo... and still glowing ang itsura niyo...
1 more thing chewing gum... it will make your mouth busy and mas bumababa ang chance niyo to crave for food more... =)
ReplyDeletediet doesn't have to be costly po... yung kahit po yung mga ordinary nuts can be part of your diet.. since nuts contain good and healthy fats and oil.. yung mga pagkain na pwede niyo pa ring mabili sa palengke like tofu is protein chicken etc. marami na rin pong mga wheat and high fiber product na tinapay sa supermarket na nagkalat di po kailangan ng mga tipong healthy options brand etc. salad po is costly lalo kung daily siya kakainin pwede kayong mag go into watercress na gulay okra etc. since veggies are known for rich in vitamins and low in calories po... =)

Wow! ang laki mu ah! di ka nababagay dito, doon... doon ka bagay (pointing at the tv that time was commercial ng pinoy biggest looser audition ata yun eh) walang lugar dito sa gym ang mga kasing laki mu" yan po ang sinabi sa kin lahat ng tao nakatingin mangiyak ngiyak ako nun pero bumalik pa rin ako nung third day, forth day, fifth day and so on... Kelan lang nasalubong ko ang lalaking nanlait sa kin noon sa gym and he actually apologize and admit that he was rude and wrong... SARAP SOBRA NG FEELING! dahil naitaas ko ang bandera ng mga katulad nating may weight problem! =)

Riza yung sagging skin ko meron pa rin po... notice all my clothes are with sleeves dahil shy po akong ipakita ang excess skin ko although lumiit na siya it will still took me mga 6 to 10 more months pa bago siya bumalik sa dati niyang porma... stretch marks po yung sa kin nawala eh kasi hindi ko siya kinakamot noon pang malaki ako kaya hindi talaga siya na-develop ng pareho sa mga nabuntis na may marka... yun po!
ReplyDeleteyung sagging skin po pala kailangan niyo madalas i-workout (buhat po talaga kayo ng mabigat) then eat po kayo ng protein para mag heal yung mga napunit na muscle since nagbuhat kayo ng mabigat. Workout niyo po yung area na gusto niyong matanggal ex. po tricep problem ko 4 times a week akong mag tricep workout... Pinaka scary sa kin na mag sag eh abs, kaya mula nung malaki ako abs workout ko daily talaga... kaya flat po at wala pong dila ang tummy ko (until not po daily ang abs eworkout ko walang tigil)
pwede ko po pala kayong bigyan ng workout routine ng pang lose weight po, problem is hindi po kasi ako marunong ng mga computer thing and stuff masyado kaya limited lang ang kaya kong i-share wish I could show u all how I do my workout para mas makatulong pa ako....

Thanks for answering all my questions especially about the chips and diet soda... Gosh I had no idea about the diet sodas. I'm surprised that rice is not part of your 7 fatty foods, but as a reader pointed out above, I'll be more conscious now of switching to whole grain and wholewheat bread. Yung sa nuts, I tried to replace chips wih those too before when I went on the South Beach, and I did lose weight. The problem is after a while parang magsasawa ka and hahanapin mo uli yung mga Lays na yan. Hehehe. Anyway, we can't achieve anything without sacrifice. (Huhuhu). I was so touched by your story about the guy who embarassed you in front of everyone... Wow you are really super duper strong and one admirable person. Kung ako yan I would probably have never gone back... Ang galing mo, wala along masabi.

From a scientific point of view, our skin tends to stretch given it occupies space such as fat. And when that melts, na stretch na ang skin so it is really impossible na the skin from her body was not "tucked". Not saying na she did something to lose the weight but she did something to smoothen out the flabs left from the skin. :-)

You may wanna try looking at greek yogurt - low fat and carb pero almost double the protein ng regular yogurt. Don't be fooled by the flavored one kasi maraming sugar rin minsan. Always read the label of what you're buying and if possible kuha kayo ng anything na less than 4g of sugar lang.
Tama si Shirley na always always read the label kasi minsan akala natin ok ung binibili natin pero hindi pala. Example ang century tuna akala ko ok siya na part ng high protein diet ko pero when I read the label, mas mataas ung carb content compared sa protein. E tuna na nga un di ba? Later on I found out na ung premium line nila pala dapat ung bilhin ko kasi un ung walang extenders.
After ninyo magworkout, importante rin na you eat something to help you recover. Para mas less ung time na masakit ung katawan ninyo at makaworkout rin kagad. From the time you end your workout til 1 hour after dapat kumain kayo ng something na balanced ang fat, protein and carbs to help you recover faster. What I usually drink is a low fat chocolate drink.

ReplyDeletesomeone mention sa taas about tuna in can, try niyo po maghanap ng tuna na water base lang then check the total cards (kung di niyo trip ang carbs) meron kasi less than 1g or totally wala talaga... forgot the brand eh, pero meron eh... local brand siya eh nasa 29.00 ata siya eh tapos good for 3 serving na.. check ko sa supermarket pag nag drop by ulit ako.. =)

ReplyDeleteyung yogurt po.. actually po meron ng offer ang market na 0% fat yung carbs niya is a bit high but then required kasi ng body natin to have at least 2 glasse of milk daily or if not we can replace it with 3 servings of yogurt milk... tama yung isang nag comment sa taas standard kasi ang 4g na protein sa bawat yogurt milk (if conscious kayo or important sa inyo ang protein) go for low fat milk nalang po kayo instead of yogurt... kung protein ang habol niyo ah... kasi yogurt (hi carbs bec of sugar content, then low protein 4g lang) LOW FAT MIlk (mas lower in carbs, higher protien grams content)
Those who posted about sagging skin dint lose weight thru proper diet and exercise. I've lost weight too, about 72 lbs in 8 months only and the only skin left sagging are in my triceps and belly area, not a good tricep workout and abs workout can't handle. Thank you for sharing Miss Shirley! Will definitely try to lose the last 30lbs! (AND will do the abs workout daily, the tricep workouts 4x a week!) Currently stuck right now in 125lbs for about 6 months already. Ang hirap kasi with diet, if there's good tasting food, I still eat, the exercise kasi really became part of my life (a sort of habit and passion since I really really look forward to it every single morning). But you inspired me. I will read the labels again, and try to eliminate all the sugary stuff (as well as the sodium) in my diet.

Galing galing! Reading success stories about weight loss through diet an exercise makes me really happy. I know the hard work and discipline one takes to finally reach one's ideal weight.
ReplyDeleteI've read comments saying this is impossible w/o diet pills. No, it's not. Though Shirley was heavier than I was, I also did it the natural way - proper diet and regular exercise. I lost like 45-48 pounds in about 9-10 months. Be consistent with these two things and you'll see your metabolism will improve as well as your stamina.
