Letter from a Reader: Failed Second Chance

Dear Fashion PULIS,

For the past few weeks, some relatives of mine have been distressing over a fashion crisis. I want to make it clear though that in the past, they had no problems when they had dresses made by this retail store.

These relatives of mine are from New York City. They come to the Philippines once a year for vacation. Last June, my aunt went to this retail store to look for the designer who used to make their dresses because they needed to order some dresses for her youngest daughter’s wedding.

Since the designer whom my aunt used to work with was unavailable, she agreed to work with this other designer that the retail store was suggesting. Days after handing the Chantilly lace that my aunt bought from Paris to the designer, she discovered from some friends that this designer was recently involved in a fashion controversy. My aunt believed that this designer deserves a second chances and she also wanted to help him so she was not bothered at all with what she heard.

Fast forward to the first week of August, my aunt scheduled flight back to New York was fast approaching and the dresses still needed a lot of work even after three fittings. Much to her surprise, the designer did not even use the Chantilly lace that my aunt turned over to him. She asked him repeatedly where her fabrics are but he never gave any reply.

Apart from the missing fabric, my aunt was also very disappointed with the designer's lack of courtesy and decorum. He does not show up for scheduled fittings, and arrives late when he finally decides to show up. One time, when my aunt invited him for snacks after one of the fittings, the designer after asking for wifi connection from the server just sat there and played with his ipad, ignoring the presence of my aunt.

My 72 year old aunt was so depressed during those times when she was worry about the final outcome of the dresses. She was also concerned if the dresses will be ready in time for the wedding.

Thankfully, the owner of the retail store finally interfered and he was able to help us save four dresses. After our meeting with him, he immediately instructed his people to focus on our problems.

At present, my aunt is back in New York and she was able to bring the dresses with her thanks to the owner of the retail store. Until now, my aunt is still very upset with the traumatic experience she had with this delinquent designer.

Thank you FP for posting my letter. I hope whenever one of your readers is thinking of giving this designer a second chance, he/she should remember the sad story of my aunt.

Yours Truly,
Tedrick Yao

  2. the way i understood it, your aunt already acquired the services of the designer AFTER which she learned about his bad reputation , correct ? then , your aunt and family members SHOULD HAVE withdrawn upon learning about it and chose another designer, you dont give second chances why ?? the designer is gay right ? also you are in pinas, so that is why, pls, i meant no sarcasm there, but that is the answer, sad but true, so the anxiety / emotional upset your aunt experience is partly her fault-- you should have seen the red flag - 3 fittings and not yet fixed?? late in meetings??

  10. I have no idea who this is but just to comment on this story
I feel sad for the auntie since the sender mentioned she was already 72 and for an elderly to ask a young person out for a snack is more than for camaraderie's sake maybe the aunt was looking for a way to somehow bond with him and get to know the guy.
I wish this guy's identity would be revealed soon for the public to know. second chances don't come often and should be taken with gratitude
    I LOVE OLD PEOPLE <3

  20. I googled Tedrick's blog as suggested by one of the comments and out na out ung delinquent designer dun. the retail store was also named. according to the post, the designer has been FIRED since the incident! may justice pa naman pala sa mundo. sayang ung chantilly lace from Paris! I suggest people to read Tedrick's blog for this incident for more details and resolution of the problem ;)

  21. Try Tedrick's blog to know who the designer is but most probably your first guess is correct. The designer recently had a magazine feature pa naman with the theme "reset" meaning second chances. The thing is you can only have too many "second chances." i hope people learn and wala nang maawa / mabiktima next time.

  22. Can someone post the link to Tedrick Yao's blog? Para naman alam na natin who the designer is. Because if this is indeed Pwe, then we need to spread the word. There was an article about him in a local fashion magazine and if people are tempted to give him a second chance based on that article, they need to know about this.

  23. Found it! Google name of designer + Tedrick

What a way to repay people who are willing to give you a second chance. Haaaaaaaaay.

  24. To those who dont know who this designer is, my guess is this designer was featured in the Retagging Scandal BI. Look for it in FP's old BIs. A female broadcaster (ex VP's kid) raised the alarm.

  26. Bakit nakiki-BI si Tedrick Yao?

Si FP, for entertainment value ang mga BI nya. So it's understandable that he doesn't name the characters involved. Nakiki-chismis lang sya, ganun. Tapos tayong nanghuhula, enjoy-enjoy lang kasi wala namang effect sa buhay natin.

But if this Tedrick guy is writing to warn us, he should name na the designer. Hindi naman chismis yung nangyari sa kanya, diba? So legitimate ang complaints nya. So what kung magalit yung designer, kebs! Bakit sya nangloloko ng tao? Lola pa ang kinatalo...

So Tedrick, wag ka nang mag dramang BI. You're not FP. Kainis.

  27. FYI Anonymous August 13th 2011 1130pm Any email FP gets he also edits he mentioned this and seeing this is his blog he treats any emails like he would with his articles .... Now if you had any brains you would know that if you mention any one's name in an article with no circumstantial evidence to go with the article than you can warranted for SLANDER OR CHARACTER DEFAMATION DUH !!

Your all talk but you don't read properly !! I will write this in tagalog so you will understand .... Basahin mo ma - igi mga articles na nka post dito kahit sa comments nka request that only the 1st letter of the name of the person talked about can be mentioned and thats it !!

If FP mentions the names or the people who write to FP mention names than they will have court cases filed like any thing ...

Tedrick already named the designer on his own blog. He also posted an official statement issued by the CEO of the brand. The designer is no longer connected with the brand because, "his lack of dedication prompted us [the brand] to reconsider our affiliations with him." The CEO allowed the statement to be posted on Tedrick's blog.

Just check Tedrick's blog, dontaskmetosmile already posted how to find his blog on google. Am not sure if FP allows blogs to get posted here.

  32. @Anonymous August 13, 2011 11:30 PM

Pwedeng wag kang sasagot sagot kung mali naman assumptions mo? Napaka-arrogant mo e everyone who reads this can see that you're the one na puro angas lang pero mali naman. Were you not informed?? :))

Tedrick DID name the designer, and the brand he was fired from. Period. You shut up.

  33. Napaka shady talaga ng personality ng designer na ito. Bukod sa lagi sya late or hindi pumupunta pag fitting, mabilis sya maningil or magpapakita lang pag magbabayad na ng down payment. Dami nya katwiran pag malalate or gusto mo na makita kase kesyo nasa new york pa daw ang gown. ano? Pano napunta dun? Tapos nakakapagtaka bakit wala pa din syang kotse?

    ReplyDelete
  34. no wonder tedrick yao posted everything in his blog, he wasn't doing a BI, it happened to close family friends of his. it's a good thing he detailed everything complete with the name of the designer (whom we all guessed anyway) and the store.
what's with this gay designer anyway? and bloggers all over are currently promoting this glossy magazine with an article of this designer 'fessing up and whatever makabagbag damdamin stuff he kunwari said after his numerous scandals?? and then THIS HAPPENS?? i seriously think the fashion & design industry should do some sort of intervention with this gay. he is too much already...and doesn't seem to have learned from his past MAJOR mistakes. dapat di na binibigyan ng chance pa ang mga ganito. i-boycott na dapat ang ganyang klaseng walang modo. and these things are supposed to be humbling experiences...and instead of humility, he still exhibits smugness and an "i am above you" attitude. fashion doesn't need his sort.
