The Siomai Make-up Artist

It has been a while since I last posted a blind item about someone from the fashion industry. The truth of the matter is that I worry that some of the people in the stories that I know might not be that well-known to most readers. Anyway, rest assured that I always prioritize a story about the fashion industry every time I do have one.

This make-up artist only wants to eat siomai and nothing else. Prior to the wedding day, he specifically advised his client/bride to make sure that she orders siomai for him. Upon receiving this information, the client relayed it to her wedding coordinator and requested her to take care of this.

On the day of the wedding, the coordinator invited the three assistants of the make-up artist to go to one of the function rooms for lunch where they will be served chicken and pork adobo with rice. The three assistants refused and told the coordinator that they also want siomai for lunch just like their boss. So instead of just buying 4 orders of siomai for the make-up artist, the coordinator now has to buy 16 orders of siomai for the make-artist and his three assistants.

The coordinator went to the mall located across the hotel to buy 16 orders (4 orders x 4 people) of siomai. When she was about to enter the hotel, the security guard stopped her since bringing in of food for wedding suppliers is strictly prohibited by the hotel management. She had to explain to the guard that the food she bought is for the bride and her family members who are waiting for her in the bridal suite. The security guard escorted the coordinator carrying the 16 orders of siomai to the bride's room to make sure that the food is really intended for hotel guests.

A few days after the wedding, the coordinator received a phone call from the client/groom asking her who charged more than 2,000 PhP worth of siomai to his room. The coordinator told him that she does not know anything about this and reassured him that she bought the 16 orders of siomai from the mall and not from the hotel's Chinese restaurant. Minutes later, the client/groom rang her back to tell her that he just found out that it was was the bride's brother who ordered the siomai from the hotel's Chinese restaurant. According to his brother-in-law, make-up artist disliked like the siomai that the coordinator bought from the mall so he decided to order from the hotel's Chinese restaurant instead.

Do you know who this make-up artist is? He has made a name for himself and this is why he feels that he can afford to be this demanding. To the readers who are not very familiar with the fashion industry, I suggest that you give your opinion on the story instead. I cannot wait to read your comments.

  18. Hi! I am a makeup artist and part of the industry. Im pretty sure hindi si J ito, he's super nice and never ko nakita nag demand, and wala siyang 3 assistants, sometimes pa nga wala at all, he does the hair also.

I'm super sure si siomai fez ito na flower ang last name! I worked and know a lot of colleagues, siya lang ang naimagine ko na mag dedemand ng ganito. It's his signature---- Food and too many assistants!

one time i had a client who used him for almost 2 years na, i was suprised bakit ang dami food na prepared for us, then i asked, siya nga ang makeup artist nila! kalerks talaga!

    ReplyDelete
  19. @Anonymous 1:22: you forgot Hen Lin. I love it even if I eat Shang Palace's or Summer Palace's siomai =)

  20. ang alam ko J doesnt do brides cuz of his sked... and i can imagine the makeup artist's disappointment when he saw the siomai from the mall... shempre they were in the hotel... baka naman galing sa HL, MS, SM, CK ang siomai at hindi man lang HC?!?!?! are makeup artists included in the guests at the reception? baka naman kaya niya sinabi bago pa lang ang wedding day para malaman ng bride na imbes na isali sha sa per head ng reception, or other hotel food... dumplings na lang sa kanya para hindi doble gastos. Ok lang si makeup artist, he probably deserves it at masama rin ang nagugutom with a job like his.

BUT THE THREE ASSISTANTS ARE TOO MUCH!!! THEY SHOULD KNOW WHERE THEY STAND!!! YAN ANG DAPAT PAGSABIHAN NI MAKEUP ARTIST!!!

OMG! Possible na si J na may salon, if not si P na flower ang last name

  22. @Xonie: That was for lunch. The wedding reception was held at night.

  23. @ July 22, 2011 12:46 PM...
Masyado ka naman HB. Easy lang... I agree with July 22, 2011 12:25 PM... Nakakapag-charge nga sila ng 30k for one days work tapos food nya na worth 2k sa iba nya pa papabayad. Abuso naman yun. Kaya ang daming nagsisipag-lakihan ang ulo kasi tino-tolerate ang ganitong gawain. Kung masyado pala sya maselan, di dapat nagdala na lang sya ng sarili nyang food in the first place or spinecify nya na kung saan dapat galing yung food nya... not only that ha, pati mga assistant ang kakapal na ng fez! Assts pa lang nagde-demand na din. How disappointing that someone of his level can't even pay for his own food. Yes, he may have expensive taste pero parang PG (dead-hungry) ang mindset. Napaka-inconsiderate!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I wonder who this MUA is... I got curious because of some comments saying that he's worth it and defending him. I'm looking for a MUA right now and if he's really good as some people said, I'll gladly order 2k worth of siomai for him and his staff.

    ReplyDelete
  25. i dont understand why nakakarating issues like these sa FP. i just find kung sino man ang nagkwento, very tacky, baduy..hampas-lupa mindset. mataas ang taste ng make-up artist, so ikasasama na ba nya yun? i am not from showbiz ,neither am i a make-up artist. i just dont like people putting other people down for being tasteful and abundant! ewan ko sa inyo!!! down with crab mentality!!! if you are miserable wag kayong mandamay. hindi namin ginusto yan sa inyo...

    ReplyDelete
  26. I think if they had an agreement naman prior to the event that MUA will only eat siomai then it's not an issue at all. Maybe the client wasn't satisfied with the service that's why 2k is so much of a big deal.

My question is: why siomai? :)

    ReplyDelete

e kung ok lang naman sa bro in law to buy siomai from the hotel, why not. baka naman si bro in law ang nag order when he heard na di type yung siomai from the mall.

Kainis! Laki ng ulo!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Anong klaseng bulaklak! Clue pleasE?

    ReplyDelete
  30. I really dont understand wedding suppliers demanding food from d bride/groom in Pinas! Abroad, its part of the package and they would never demand (as far as my experience and my friends'). You rili cant buy class and breeding!

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  32. meron lang talaga mga tao na picky eaters, so they demand foods their palate desires.

    ReplyDelete
  33. more clues please hahaha

    ReplyDelete
  34. SIOMAI God! Kakalurkey ang mga assistants! Bakit sila din demanding?! Oh well, if i were the bride, i'd also give in to makeup artist' demand, if he's worth it naman, at para stress free beauty ko.

Helller, kailangan pa ba ng special request un.. if he can be paid 30k, he can easily afford his own siomai..!! in short, nagpapaimportante lang tong tao na 'to.. kakairita..

    ReplyDelete
Out of the goodness of the hearts nalang ng hosts or as consideration but not compulsary. So they should come prepared and wag umasa masyado sa hosts. He is professional and his demands are not for him but for the celebrants!!!

    ReplyDelete
  38. This is interesting. I miss your fashion-related items. Nonetheless, I am craving a siomai after this post.

  39. @ Anonymous 1:23PM - i thought of Hen Lin din but i hate siomai talaga na mabibili sa malls..pero teka may Mann Hann, Savory, Hap Chan, Le Ching din pala sa mall...

mag food trip na lang hehe

although masarap ang siomai sa Shang, madugo ang presyo buti na lang i can their siomai for free..thanks to Chef R : )

  42. I dont think this is J. He is not at all demanding! I personally know him and he never demands anything from his clients. And he usually has 1 assistant lang if he's doing the bridal makeup. Baka si flower ito, feeling high and mighty yun!!

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  44. I don't think it's J. Yes he's health conscious pero not to the point na magdedemand cya. He normally makes his own packed lunch etc on weekdays. Weekends he eats ANYTHING.

    Sinech kaya to?

    ReplyDelete
  45. FP, you always PRioritize a story about the fashion industry..

    ReplyDelete
  46. TAMA SI XONIE OK LANG KUNG ANG MAKE UP ARTIST ANG NAG DEMAND IT WOULD NOT COST THAT MUCH, EH ANG KASO THE THREE ASSISTANTS PASAWAY!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Based on your tweet I believe this is P. He did my make-up during my wedding a few years back. He had no such demands on us and his team at that time ate what we offered them. Just saying.... - goosegirl

Ehe, I'm not familiar with makeup artists

    ReplyDelete
  50. the bride should not follow their demands, AGAIN WHO IS THE BOSS???? the boss is the person paying the bill, the person paying the bill has the final say,the final say will be followed right or wrong, the employees/ employed people who do not like do not agree with the final say has to go/ resign , its that simple, STUPID naman ng couple to follow their demands haha

  52. Kung ako ung bride, kung nsa contract un with make-up artist n i have to provide for an expensive lunch/snack whatever for him and the assistants, wla akong mgagawa..Actually mali un kung sino ngsign n charge to room ung siomai.. either yung hotel kung hindi naman authorized signatory ung ngsign or ung actual signatory ng bill.

  53. Sino itech? Girlalu or Becky?

    ReplyDelete
  54. im a wedding supplier. im a picky eater too. i inform the coordinator/bride beforehand. but i eat whatever they provide. if i cant eat the food they provided, i buy my own food after the job. no supplier has to right to be demanding. attitude na yan.

    ReplyDelete

  56. I am not in the fashion industry but I also supply specialized services and products lines in different events. My work makes me very hands-on and I often times show up even during ingress and sometimes stay on even till the egress.
I go by the guideline that the Clients paid for my services and should therefore take care of my crew. In other words, I make sure that my staff are provided for with their own meals and snacks depending on the length of the event.
There are clients who are generous enough to provide us with crew meals or instruct my staff to get food from the buffet after they have eaten. There are clients din naman who are deadma about it and don't provide even a glass of water.
At any rate, as a paid supplier, we should not expect our clients to take care of our own food etc. If they offer, then accept but always assume that since they paid you in full and with your asking rate, then, you should be able to take care of your incidental expenses. If ayaw mo bawasan ang TF mo, add these expenses to your package price.
In our company, our staff is NOT allowed to touch any of the party food unless crew meals intended for them are served. We make sure that they have their own food and water available to them so they wouldnt be at the mercy of the client.
Ayokong mukha kaming patay gutom sa events. When I am in the event and the client sees me, they would always offer me food or ask me to get food from the buffet. I oftentimes decline and just have whatever drink they are serving. I eat what my staff eats and eat only when my staff eats.

  57. I don't think making demands is proper no matter how "awesome" you are in whatever field you specialize in. the higher you climb, the humbler you should be. even if your talent got you to where you are, it should not mean you are above everyone else that you can make demands left & right. this sort of prima donna attitude speaks of one's character more than anything else. correct si anon@july 23, 2:13am, the client is still the BOSS, and these people should still do everything in their power to make the client happy & not give problems. that's part of the client service & relations. that's part of proper work ethics, which i think a LOT of these big name whatevers DON'T have, unfortunately.

    ReplyDelete
Majonder n and muk-up artist n parang lumaklak ng glutha max ang atcheng! Im sure and mga bortang assistants nya ang nagmamaganda! Isa lang masasabi ko! Mang uuod sila sa hardin ng bulaklak!

    ReplyDelete
  59. I don't think this is J. I work for a hotel and we had a bridal fair featuring J. He's not demanding when it comes to food. he would even ask our permission if he could have breakfast or lunch in our cafe when in fact, it was already a given since he's checked in the hotel.

He's just particular with the lights of the room where we'll have the model's makeup done.but that's because it's for the job to be done well. very professional i might add.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  61. Well I just have one word. Professionalism. Consider your job as going to office even if it's not a 9 to 5 kind of job. If you work in the office, you don't expect your boss to feed you. With the Filipino pakikisama consider it privilege if your boss or client offers you something like food. As privilege you have no right to be choosy. This is as simple as 1 2 3 and just requires common sense. But some people lack common sense and that's the problem. The world would be less complicated if each one of us doesn't forget common sense, right?

    ReplyDelete
  62. My thoughts: - Meals should be paid for by the client, if the work to be done happens over a meal time - The assistants shouldn't have demanded to have the same meal as their boss, and their boss should have reprimanded them for their behavior. - While I don't think the makeup artist has the right to demand 5-star siomai (whatever that is), I think it's wrong din naman that they just ordered siomai from the mall. Ang cheap naman. Sana man lang from a decent Chinese restaurant. Ang dami-dami naman diyan

    ReplyDelete
  63. the BI's subject is the favorite MUA of a certain actress/socialite. furthermore, the client should provide for the food of the suppliers as our custom/culture dictates. i've helped set up events and it really depends on the client. some clients ask what food you want, some have packed lunch or food delivery, some will give money for you to buy the food you want. kanya-kanyang style lang iyan.

    ReplyDelete
  64. He is indeed filled with thorns because of his demands and julalays who are equally demanding. Be professional and do not act like PG and even to the extent of ordering 2k worth of siomai in a high class resto! So cheap

    ReplyDelete
  65. Anong meron sa siomai?!!!!

  70. The MUA is a picky eater? May taste sa pagkain? Saan ba sya galing at ano ba kinalakihan nya? Acquired lang kaya yung taste nyan. Besides, I've seen him eat. As if.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Although I'm not as choosy as him, I totally understand him. I do events, and in my contracts, I specify PACKED MEALS ARE UNACCEPTABLE DURING THE EVENT. And yes, the same goes for my team's meals. So when the day comes and we're given a plastic bag of McDonald's or Jollibee or KFC meals, we don't accept it. And I will complain. I am not asking for the moon and the stars. I just want decent, plated meals. If they can afford me, then they should be able to pay for my meals. That's why I specify it in my contracts, dahlins.

  72. I think that everyone should practice professionalism. No matter who you are. Never expect to ask more. It is a good practice to stick to what you have agreed upon which is usually the PF or salary. That is one of the sickness of most Filipinos, expecting more instead of being grateful that they are getting paid or knowing what they do is good. Some clients or customers can be considerate but there are some who are not, still it is never an excuse to demand things from them even if may cost a peso. So for those readers who think that it was okay for this make-up artist and his entourage of assistants to demand food even if they were provided already by the couple, it is just plain wrong to do so. I don't care how popular or how good this make-up artist is, but if his attitude is like that he will never truly be successful.

Sayang Lang, I don't know this person.

  73. For me if my MUA demands shomai on my wedding day, it`s ok I can give him what he wants, cheap lang naman ang shomai, but he or she should at least informed the bride or the coordinator na pwede isali din ang 3 assistants nya para naman prepared ang coordinator diba?mali yung 3 assistants, sa pagkaalam ko sa BI dun lang sila nag demand on that day, so syempre di prepared.I was a bride myself, though I know i dont have to feed my crew and entourage before the reception but I made sure that food was provided for all of them, kasi ayokong may gutom sa kasal ko. It should be a happy event !

    ReplyDelete
  74. July 22, 2011 12:46 PM HALER! Yun na nga eh! d clients already paid the artist with your said-amount na 30k! eh di mas dapat ata na respetuhin nalang nya kung anu man naka-ready sa reception noh...wala na xang right mag demand kung ganayang nabayaran na xa...the NERVE! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  75. the "flower" MUA did my wedding makeup 8 years ago and i don't remember him being demanding. but then, that was a long time ago and things could've changed. but i'm not sure if he is the one this BI is referring to.

anyway, aren't weddings are for the bride and groom?! everything they want/need should be the ONLY focus for that day. i don't understand why what the wedding suppliers want/prefer to eat should be included in the LONG list of to-do's for the wedding coordinator.

the wedding supplier (i.e. MUA, videographer) should be responsible for the meals of his/her team. They should just tack on this expense to their professional fees or package. the MUA could've just charged the bride 35k for the package (30k + 5k for food) and spared everyone the drama...and they get to pick what brand of siomai they want to eat.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Consider that weddings here run for 10-16 hours and the entire time, these suppliers are with the client. They can't exactly leave the couple to buy their meals. Kahit Jollibee lang, wala namang arte most decent suppliers. Suppliers don't expect meals because they're patay-gutom. Please. Most of them are paid very well. They do because they're there the entire day working their asses off, and it would be nice if they weren't starved to death in the process.

    ReplyDelete
  77. BAKIT BA ANG DAMING NAKAKAOVERLOOK NG ETIQUETTE?

I'm not a fan of divas, but if I were the bride/wedding team, I would have at least asked if the MUA had any brand particular in mind.

PERO DAHIL HINDI AKO YUNG BRIDE, ang masasabi ko lang:

    1) SO KAPAL NG MUK-UP NG ASSISTANTS!
    2) SO KAPAL NG MUK-UP NG MAKEUP TEAM because if they did not like the siomais offered to them initially, THEN DAPAT -- NOTE: DAPAT -- they told the coordinator to buy a new one na lang.

In essence, para silang nag-charge for something completely unnecessary AND DEFINITELY UNAPPROVED.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Excuse me lang ha, i usually do events din pero those people we hire never really demand that we feed them. they are professionals. actually they would decline na i-sama sila sa bilang ng guests kasi as they have pointed out, they are there to work. madalas meron silang packed food na dala. kahit yata drinks nila, bitbit nila.
