Letter from a Reader: The Missing Hermes Herbag

Photo of RDV that appeared on Look Magazine
carrying the missing Hermes Herbag

Dear Fashion PULIS,

This unfortunate incident took place more than a year ago but I was waiting for this fashion stylist and host of a lifestyle show, RDV, to settle amicably before spreading this story. Since I see that he shows no effort to settle, I have decided to share the blow by blow account of what he did to me with your many avid readers.

RDV was introduced to me and my friends three years ago by a friend of mine, RC, who was his officemate at that time. RDV started hanging out with us since then we liked him instantly because of his wit and humor. He told us many cool stories about him and his family which we later found out to be all lies.

Sometime in mid 2009, he told me that he was interested to buy my used Louis Vuitton Keepall that I was selling at that time. Since we have been friends for quite some time, I sold the LV bag to him on a 6 month installment basis. There were times that the payments were delayed but never the less, he was able to finish the payments.

In early 2010, he fell in love with this Hermes Herbag that I was selling for 75,000 Php. Since he has once shared with us that he was earning 120,000 Php a month, I told myself that I will not have any problem with this guy for sure. Months passed and I have not received any payments. All I got from him were apologies and excuses for his inability to pay. Wanting to save our friendship, I patiently waited but his excuses became more and more illogical each time. It was also around that time, when me my friends and I began to discovered his web of lies. His friends in Facebook were also witnesses to his lies. We thought that more than an Hermes Herbag, what he needed was professional psychological help.

Months later in September 2010, I asked him nicely if he could just return the bag to me if he could not pay for it. He told me to give him a few days to look for it because they were moving houses during that time. After a few days later, I was shocked to receive a message from him informing me that he misplaced the bag. I asked myself “How the hell could he have lost such a huge bag?” I told him to just pay for it since he lost it. He asked for more time but when I got no word from him, I decided to request my lawyer to take care of it.

It is now June 2011 and I have not been able to collect the 75,000 PhP he owes me. My question is “Isn't RDV supposed to pay for the item because he lost it while it was in his possession?” If he were a dignified person with good morals as he claims, he should have at least showed his willingness to pay for it even if it will take some time.

Thank you very much Fashion PULIS for posting my story. I hope he reads this story and gets in touch with me. More power to your blog.

Yours truly,
Denis Robles

P.S. Fashion PULIS has agreed to post the initials of the person involved in the story because the letter sender has allowed his real name to be published. Calling on Mr. RDV, Fashion PULIS will be waiting for your side of the story. Please send it to through michaelsylim@gmail.com.

  2. OMG!

  5. i wonder why he denies his past i.e. he went to olops but claims he studied in de la salle zobel and went to college in dlsu-taft and hello!! les roches of switzerland!!! he needs money for his future medication

  8. this RdV is very controversial these days huh; there's an article on PEP.ph that says there's a hearing set on June 9th for a case filed by RdV and another person towards brothers Richard and Rocky Guttierrez for serious physical injuries and malicious mischief....this article kinda questions his credibility...

  13. Question kay denis- was there any receipt/acknowledgment/note tha RDV got the bag from you? Did he sign anything that says that he is buying the bag from you on credit? That would surely help your case. And yes, even if he "lost" the bag, he is still obliged to pay you since it was already in his possession. There was already a delivery made of a personal property. Kumbaga, the sale was already perfected.

I see him on tv and I find him really pretentious. Along with his other co-hosts.

  14. He has a FASHion-related show di ba? How sad, right? Hindi kasi uso ang pupunta ka sa isang therapist dito sa country natin for psychological problems like that. for that, i dub him PSYCHE, dahil meron siyang mental illness! hahaha

    ReplyDelete

  16. If there's a lesson that the readers should learn from all the blind items FP posts here, it's that you shouldn't be fooled by appearances as looks can obviously be deceiving. We have actors na mukhang ang bango-bango, may halitosis pala. Models na mukhang mayaman, napapalayas pala ng landlord nila... and now this. RDV is such a disgrace to the homosexual community. Can we declare him baklita non grata?

  18. to the letter sender- 1st- is he gay ? if so, then you made the first mistake , 2nd- was there a written contract? if yes, me habol ka, kung wala kang contract, WALA KANG habol, its a he said/she said thing, he can claim yu gave it to him, in court you have no standing

eh sister naman, bakit ka naman pumapayag ng installments, MY UNSOLICITED opinion- ang tao kung me pera dapat fully paid agad, the corollary is , kung siya eh me pera, why will he buy a second hand LV or hermes, syempre brand new dapat ang bilhin nya

what happened to your hermes? it was not missing , it was sold para sa BF nya

"to the letter sender- 1st- is he gay ? if so, then you made the first mistake"

What are you implying? That gay people cannot be trusted? Bakit? Marami din namang heterosexual (or do you even know what hetero is... straight, bobito/a) people na estafador at estafadora ha? Napaka-hasty generalization naman nito. I'm gay, I can be trusted, and I sure as hell can afford to buy that Hermes Herbag from an actual store. Ikaw, can you?

My dear ANON JUNE 7, 2011 8:36AM... Pwe!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Super dami talagang show off sa fashion world wala namang pera..just saying..had really bad experience also...laging hindi nagbabayad pero pag nakita mo magpaparty bonggang bongga! parang ang dami nilang pera all show lang...

    ReplyDelete
  50. The show he co-hosts is annoying. I hate it. It's not FASHionable at all.

And, again, as was previously mentioned in a post where a designer didn't deliver for a bride, a written contract isn't necessary. May habol pa rin siya, even if the agreement was made verbally. The buyer's liability to pay even when the item was lost isn't affected by whether or not the sale is in writing. He has taken possession of the item already and used it as his own and therefore he should bear the risk of it's loss.

There's no shame in buying second-hand. In fact, it's actually quite smart, given that most designer hand bags depreciate so quickly. But if you can't even pay for secondhand items in full, then maybe you shouldn't be buying luxury goods in the first place.

  55. To Dennis,

Please send RDV a letter and demand payment for the bag. Give him a deadline within which to pay for the bag or return it within the same number of days plus damages, if you will.

You can still go after RDV even without the note/receipt/acknowledgment, but it will be a tough battle. Text messages will also suffice. That is, after all, a memorialization of your agreement.

    Georj

    ReplyDelete
  56. Hello Denis, good for you! The truth, no matter what happens, is hard to beat. Do not get disheartened if you don't have a contract with him and it appears to be a he-said/she-said situation. There are a lot of ways to prove there was such a transaction between you two like text messages to each other, emails, messages on FB, DMs, etc.

I admire people who fight based on principle (even when my former boss told me it was the most useless battle to wage) despite the monumental effort of proving allegations. In a perfect society, one's word should be enough. People and circumstances being far from perfect is not an excuse for us not to try to set things right. Again, kudos to you! :)

  69. I don't believe dennis robles was paid by annabelle rama. Regardless of the timing, the fact remains that rdv owes him p75,000.00 for the bag. 80. Buying second hand is always a smart move given the economic circumstances today.

Hahaha iba pala. Boycottin ang napaka-TH na show na yan!

It's true naman, there's no shame in that. As long as it's in good condition, wasn't stolen by the person selling it to you and is FULLY paid, why would you be ashamed of buying anything secondhand? Some first owners even sell their handbags UNUSED, so the prices are only minimally reduced from the retail price.

But since you asked, only one of my bags (a vintage Chanel classic flap from the early 90s) is secondhand. It's very rare as the quilting is vertical, versus the usual diamond quilting. So it's actually worth more than a brand new classic flap.

  82. Arg. We enjoy reading just the stories, comments on the story, and the wonderful clues (which everyone so wittily crafts, yay).

Mike, thank you for this great blog. Is there any chance you will agree to not publish grammar correction comments? It does not add value to the discussions, anyway... This is not a grammar or English language blog. Or maybe ask readers if they agree to this?

Hellur, if you failed to notice, people here go as far as using becki talk or made up words so I doubt they care about grammar. Unless nalang sobrang incomprehensible yung sinabi, just leave it.

    Re: second hand bags
The people I know who come from extremely wealthy families (the type who have to stay low-key cause they're THAT RICH) LOVE buying stuff from ukay-ukay and second-hand shops (most of them are in their 20's). They were taught how to save and that's why their families stay rich. Some specifically look for vintage or 2nd-hand items (in good condition, of course) because to them, these are worth way more than the new ones being sold today. It's known that the craftsmanship of the clothes and bags back in the day, especially for the older designer houses, were far superior than they are now.

my very same thought dear--people think that the expensive bag you are toting shows one's social standing in life, and that you are "made". if one can buy the bag without having to pay it in gives, or give up months of their salary for its purchase, then you have truly "arrived". if not, then it is just pretentious & spells big fat LOSER.

  92. Re FP's question: “Isn't RDV supposed to pay for the item because he lost it while it was in his possession?”

No. The general rule is owner bears the risk of loss. Res perit domino. (Except if there is a stipulation to the contrary)

There should have been a contract or a memorandum in order for it to be governed by the Statute of Frauds because it was a sale of personal property at a price of P500 up.

Hence, i believe Mr. Robles should anchor his claim on the articles on Human Relations of the CC if he decides to sue. They are part of the cause of action which is also known as "abuse of rights". :D
