Fashion Designer = Tracing + Retagging?

When this client went to the store of this female designer to have a dress made, she was advised by her to go through the rack and check if there was anything she liked on display. The client found a dress that fitted her perfectly so she gladly purchased it from the designer at a reasonable price.

A few weeks later, the same client went back to the designer to order for another dress. This time around since she could not find anything that suited her taste from the display, she requested for the designer to sketch something for her. Instead of sketching from scratch, the designer brought out a Manila paper filled with different dress designs and began tracing using onion skin paper. When they eventually agreed on the final design and the material to be used, the designer got the 50% down payment from the client and left her with one of the seamstresses to take her measurements.

After a week or two, the client was asked to go back to the store to pick up the dress. She was very disappointed when she fitted it. It did not fit her well so she politely pointed out the problem areas. The designer agreed to make the necessary changes and requested her to just come back for it. Three days later, she was invited back to the store just to be greeted by a dress that was never altered at all. The designer apologized and requested her to give her another week. A week later the dress was still a disaster so the client informed the designer that she will not be paying for the remaining balance. She left the dress with the designer and promised herself never to go back to that store.

When this client got home, she immediately went to her closet to look for the dress that she bought off the rack from the designer. She was wondering why that dress fitted her so perfectly. Upon careful examination, she noticed that there were tiny perforations surrounding the label of the designer. It was only then that she realized that the designer had the original bigger tag removed and replaced it with her tag that was apparently smaller.

  4. this experience hapened to me too. the female designer can't sketch in front of me but brought out pre-drawn sketches for me to choose from. i also went back 2-3x for alterations. also i saw on the rack several similar gowns to my gown for her other clients. i complained saying what if i met someone at the party wearing the same dress?! what is the point of having custom made gowns? D KO magets why her deigns were always being featured in fashion mags like P.

  8. I agree, that's so embarrassing, how can you call yourself a fashion designer when you can't design. She's a fashion retailer that's that.

  10. Is she the one with the store in Greenbelt?

    ReplyDelete
  11. I think the initials of this female designer is the same as the capital of a country.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I don't think this is C from Greenbelt cause she is not there to design for her clients.

  13. Who is this? Actually, a lot of designers do not know how to sketch that's why they have someone to do the job for them.

  15. @ Anonymous 10:03 AM "Ito ba yung same designer with a line of 'designer' stockings/leggings? Na member ng designer guild kuno?"

Nope, I'm a client of the designer you're referring to (K) and she definitely draws everything from scratch. She's done it for me and I've been happy with her work.

  20. Is this D also???

  21. It's not so much an issue of knowing how to sketch though. Yun nga lang, kung hindi ka na lang marunong sa business, production, retailing and keeping your word, bumawi lang man sana sa pagdrowing. Napakadali na nyang course i-take ha, please lang.

Just another Pweh. Itong mga ito, ang lalakas ng loob mag-negosyo, hindi naman pala marunong tumupad sa usapan, hindi marunong magdeliver pero nagoover promise pa. Puro lang mga koneksyon at publicity.

WHY THE HELL DO THEY TOLERATE THESE PEOPLE.

  36. D and K can both sketch. Ive seen them sketch infront of me.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Thanks to FP's tweet I now know who she is. I think it's D.

@May 5, 2011 9:51 AM, just drop the first letter of the acronym since the big country's capital is commonly referred to as just the two last letters of the acronym. So yun. This designer is D who has a very short last name.

    ReplyDelete
  38. D can sketch really. I am one of her client and I've seen her sketch. Her workmanship is also pretty good that's why she has a lot of clients. About the retagging thing, I think she did it when she was starting and yes she also copies because i saw her copy the dress of one of the designer who consigns in her store kasi mabenta. D i think is all about business.

    ReplyDelete
  39. pero copying the designs of other designers is a CRIME. Intellectual property yun.. ndi ba alam ni D yun?
