Comment from SM's AVP-Operations on Beware of the Price Tags Post

Sale Price (Yellow Tag): 169.75 PhP
Regular Price (White Tag): 89.75 Php

Sale Price (Yellow Tag): 170 PhP
Before Price (According to Yellow Tag): 339.75 PhP
Regular Price (White Tag): 249.75 PhP

Despite the fact that I never mentioned the company name, the Senior Assistant Vice President for Operations of SM Department Store left a comment under the A Letter from a Reader: Beware of the Price Tags post. Allow me to share his comment with all of you.

Dear FashionPulis.com

We are happy to let you know that since the time emails were circulated regarding our pricing, we have implemented storewide measures to improve our services even better.

We have been constantly updating our price signs to assure that these are aligned with that of the cash register. We have also been doing regular checking, and monitoring of the display alignment, completeness, and correctness of the shelf tags.

Our store personnel have also been well trained to handle inquiries and situations that may arise in relation to this, and in the rare occasions that this may happen, the lower price will prevail.

It is our company’s business direction to give the best service and value to our customers with integrity, and under no circumstances do we intend to deviate from this.

Should you have other concerns, you may email our Customer Service at SMCustomerSite@sm-shoemart.com or call us at 810-7777.

We will also be glad to accompany you in your next visit to our store, and hear more about feedback on our services.

Thank you very much.

Sincerely,
Mark Andrew Scher

  11. Thank you to SM for confronting the issue. I'm sure the price discrepancies weren't intentional. They happen everywhere even abroad and whenever there is a question of discrepancy, the customer always pays the lower price since it's the store's fault for not updating the tags.

    ReplyDelete

  13. I beg to disagree. Their supermarket chain continue to have contrasting prices on the shelf vs the cash registers. I was the one who complained about the condensed milk prices in a previous post 9this happened 3 wks ago). A few days ago, I rushed to the same supermarket and the same branch for some emergency shopping. Same scenario, same lame excuse but this time on another item, which happened to be Baker's Best Butter. The tag on the open shelf was 31.50 (which is the going rate) and at check-out time, the price scanned was 34.50.
I just totally gave up and decided to just leave all the items behind. Hay naku, wala na akong kadala-dala with this company!
And if I may add ha, they are NOT the supermarket who offer the best prices ha, despite them positioning themselves as pang-masa. Most of their items are higher than the going rate. Imagine, 34.50 for Baker's Best vs the going rate of 31.25 to 31.50 and Alaska Condensed Milk at 48.50 vs 47.25 in other major competitors.
With higher prices, bad opertaions (except for that hourly palakpak that they do)and now this outright brazen cheating of their customer's hard earned money, there's really no reason for me to continue patronizing them. i'd rather bring my money elsewhere.

  15. I still hope the victims still file a complaint with the DTI. It is still the company's responsibility to reflect true and accurate price tags. They should be accountable for this. And put a stop in deceiving the public with this kind of bad marketing strategy.

  16. ay naku FP hinde lang sa mga sale tags sila ganyan this week lang on my home napadaan ako sa branch nila in Mandaluyong particularly yung sa ground floor yung food corner don na puro chocolates and chip nakita ko don sa price tag patong patong tapos syempre pakialamera ako tinignan ko yung nasa ilalim na tag ... gasino na yung tanggalin nila yung old price eh hinde eh siguro naka 3 patong na. sobra silang magtaas ng price almost 15+ ah.

  18. i think mr. scher is man enough or professional enough to accept criticisms and complaints. he claims the store is implementing positive steps to correct the issue. im not a fan of the store but i think its a good move on his part. sana maging effective ang corrective measures nila.
    congrats to FP.

  19. well, to begin with it is a MUST that all prices are accurate, hindi yung they are making sure that everything is accurate until mahuli

also, what does she mean by WELL TRAINED personnel? paaano naging well trained eh, 6 months sila papalit palit ng employee, by the time kabisado na ng employee ang job nila , end of contract na

SM should show their love kuno to this 3rd world country and show social responsibility by practicing fair labor practices, di yung puro contractual , but that is another story

  20. Contrary to popular belief that SM has better prices than its competitor, the truth is mas mahal sa kanila, image lang yung pangmasa.

SM=Sobrang Magulang, Sana Maluge!

  21. At the particular supermarket branch I regularly go, walang problema sa pricing nila. I often see in one check out lane that's closed, carts and carts of items are lined and an employee doesn't do anything except scan those items in the carts, checking the prices if they've been updated. In my opinion, this mall branch where I regularly go to has superb service standards. It looks like they're always improving where they think they should improve. I don't know what makes them to be always on their toes - maybe good management or tough competition or maybe the market they cater to are very mareklamo and demand for high quality customer service. Whatever it is, the consumers are the ones who are happy.

  22. hayz... nothings change. bumili ako ng bag ng anak ko worth PhP950.00 and it said that the original price is PhP1,399.75, but then nung tinanggal ko yellow sticker, PhP1,199.75 ang original price... tsk tsk tsk

    There's Robinson's and there's Puregold.
But masarap pa rin talagang mamili sa SM.
Saka ang hirap din talagang tignan kasi napupunit yung white price tag pag pinilit mong alisin yung yellow tag!

  25. This mall is notorious for having bad customer service,is it bec. their employees are over work and under paid too? Even my friend who frequent their supermarket were shocked on how high their prices are compared to other "pang-masa" supermarket. They even got the heart station's jejemon queen M to be their endorser noong una, for what? para ma isip ng masa na mura sa kanila? Na-co-confuse pa ako sa pricing, style ba nila yun? na wala mismo ang price sa product. kasi if ever mag mark up di mo rin masyado mapapansin eh.

    ReplyDelete
  26. SM..well trained employees? Yeah right?!?!
    Who are they kidding!!
Eh, every time you look for something they always say "No stock" or they ask you to go to another person na hindi alam..or they just say they dont have it.

  27. Prices at SM supermarkets are updated at midnight via transmission from an SAP server to their POS servers. All price updates incl discounts and price increases are updated immediately. Hence, every morning, I would surmise that they would be changing price tags asap since their registers are updated as soon as they open shop.

  28. Good job on getting SM's attention with regard to this matter! Sadly, the letter they sent sounds as if it started out as a Template (minimally modified to fit the circumstances).

They must promise and deliver concrete results. I hope they can furnish you with a Timetable of Corrective Action, so their improvements (if any) will be measurable.

    ReplyDelete
  30. sabi nga ng pamangkin kong 10 years old, tita, hindi naman pala sila "save more" kundi "spend more"! o di ba???

  35. what irritates me also about this mall conglomerate is that they require their food tenants even just the food carts, to only sell their SM bottled water brand. No absolut, summit, nor evian allowed. Prob is the plastic of their bottle is so cheap, it's too "soft", and requires a lot of skill just to open the cap while squeezing the plastic itself

  36. Obviously, their employees have not been doing their jobs correctly. At the same time, their managers also have not been monitoring their staff well. Time for the owners to micro manage their stores again. Owners can't rely on their managers since it looks like they haven't done what they're supposed to do.

  37. My sis recently went to buy from a newly opened Save More branch, price tag on the shelf was P70, and when it was scanned in the counter, it's P105! Save More or Spend More? They'll never change. They'll keep on ripping off their customers, so it's best to not buy from their supermarkets ever again.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  39. Well, I guess they deserve credit for being brave enough to admit that it was their store that was being referred to. But as horribly cliche as it sounds, actions speak louder than words. As long are these discrepancies keep occurring, I won't shop at their store if I can help it and I'll be watching that cash register like a hawk when I do.

And, tama 'yung isang commenter. I hope that people who do experience this complains to DTI and not just to the store. If enough people complain, maybe DTI will be forced to act. Also, they should publicize it on Twitter, Facebook or online forums as much as possible, so that people can be warned and learn to be careful when shopping in SM.

  40. in case maka-encounter kayo ng wrong pricing next time, take a picture of the shelf where the price of the items are displayed and a close-up shot of the price tag ng item .... (be sure may "date" and "time" ang picture...
then, pag mali ang presyo sa resibo at ito pa rin ang siningil sa inyo (yung mataas na halaga), keep the receipt (better yet, photocopy it kasi nabubura agad ang ink sa thermal paper)...

that's it, may ebidensya na! lagot sila!

  43. Hello!

I have a friend who was working at this store like 2 years ago. She told me not to shop kapag they go on "Sale". kapag ang isang item ay on sale/discounted for like 20% off, ang ginagawa daw dun, tinataas yung price nung item na yun by 20% then yun ang ibebenta for 20% off.. o diba, akala mo naka-discount ka.. yun pala na-loko ka lang nila.. tsk! tsk! >:(
