Do you agree that sketching is one of the basic skills that a fashion designer must possess? A designer's sketches is his/her way of communicating his/her ideas to the clients. Without these sketches, a client will not be able to visualize what is the mind of a designer.
This female fashion designer does not know how to sketch on the spot for her clients. She would always ask one of her friends to prepare the sketches for her before she meets up with her clients. For her ready to wear line, she logs on the internet to browse the styles that she likes. She cuts the sleeves from one design and the silhouette from another and pastes them together. That is how she designs the pieces you see in her boutique.
One way or the other, she knew she had to learn how to sketch so she finally decided to hire an illustrator to tutor her. During their first session, she was very impatient. She instructed her tutor to skip the lessons on how to draw the basic shapes. She wants him to teach her the advanced skills that are beyond her capacity. After the first meeting, she informed him that she was no longer interested to continue with the lessons. It was such a pity that she had an opportunity to better herself but she just gave up too easily.
Do you know who is this female designer? Her boutique recently opened in one of the high end malls. If you see her sketches published with her signature at last you now know that she requested someone to do it for her. I think someone should challenge her to sketch on the spot.
Did she use to have a boutique in P (mall)?
ReplyDeletemaARTE ba to?
ReplyDeleteLOKA LOKA ba owner nito? hahaha
ReplyDeleteYes, she has.
ReplyDeletei think ok lang yan - as long as she does good work
ReplyDeleteThat baluga foreigner hunter designer na pala sha e party animal/snort queen lang sha noon:-)
ReplyDeleteas long as the clothes are good... and originally done... ok na yun! kesa naman mag-cut and paste (read: magtahi) ng ibang label at ilalagay lang sa existing na damit na binili lang sa department store! hahahaha
ReplyDeleteDoes her last name starts with an S?
ReplyDeleteI think it's ok if she can't sketch. It's not ideal, but I once saw a contestant in Project Runway who couldn't sketch. The only disadvantage was that he/she (I can't remember) couldn't really communicate to a client what he/she was visualizing in his/her head. But his/her designs came from him/her.
ReplyDeleteWhat I consider foul here is copying and pasting from other designs online. It's the same as wearing a pair of Marc Jacobs pants and a Prada blouse and calling it "your" design. Just because you copied and pasted together smaller parts doesn't make it any less of a copy.
I think you're talking about M. it think he's the only designer who makes writes his design rather than draws it. It's so hard by the way!
ReplyDeleteCharot!
i'm one of those designers that don't sketch. i scribble but my illustration is super blah. True, it's a liability when you can't communicate your ideas to your clients.. (Most of my clients put their full trust in me because I rarely if at all sketch.) BUT if you have other skills to compensate...sometimes it's even better coz most of my clients end up being pleasantly surprised. I always believe a real live sample draped on the mannequin is a million times better than a sketch.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of being in a best dressed list in a magazine, i've read a twitter conversation between one of the famous twins and one of his friends. The friend said something like " im excited to see who's in the best dressed list this year" and the "bigger" twin replied "our friends of course". Ugh.
ReplyDeleteSi D na naman itey... haay! nakak sira sya sa Fashion Industry... Bakit kya ndi sya i-boycott. ano sa tingin nyo?
