Filipino designers love to travel overseas to get artistic inspiration. This is a story about a popular designer who stayed with a friend during his visit to an Asian country. The friend works there as an expatriate.
One day, the designer requested this friend to make a reservation in a posh restaurant because he is hosting dinner for Filipino friends in that city. Dinner went very well, everyone enjoyed the food. When it was time to settle the bill, the designer requested his friend to advance the payment because he does not have any local currency (doesn't he know how to use a credit card?).
The following day when the designer went shopping, the same incident happened. The friend did not mind advancing the payment because he thought that this designer was just be too lazy to have his USD exchanged. He was thinking maybe the designer will just give me the USD equivalent before he leaves.
Unfortunately, nothing like that happened. The designer left without paying. The friend was hoping that the money will be wired to him, but sad to say, he got no word from the designer.
Did the designer experience short term memory loss? Did he swallow a pill that made him forget about the advanced payments? Was he drunk when the advanced payments were made on his behalf? Puzzling!
By the way, this expatriate friend is now living in Manila but he has not receive any payment because he is too shy to bring it up. I wonder why are they still friends? I see them hanging out together.
In my initial draft, I named the city and country but decided not to because it will be a giveaway. The photo of the currency is a clue. I will just give you another clue, he is not a young designer.

I have no idea who this is. More significant clues!! :D
ReplyDeleteFirst you have to find out what's the currency?
ReplyDeleteits yen. its in japan.
ReplyDeleteI get it now! Parang Japanese yung first name, right?? :D
ReplyDeleteDoes this Designer have a Partner? Sikat Both right?

ReplyDeleteHay nako Sir Mike, madami talagang chipanga sa Fashion world, mga feeling sosyal, wala namang pera. I worked with several during an event when I took your class in MMC in DLSU.

I think a lot of designers forgot that being a designer should make beautiful things...and earning is just second...and geezzz they are not even earning they silently extort money
ReplyDeletedrowning in pretentiousness mga designers na ito- mega pretend na affords sila, mega pretend na creative sila, megalubog naman sa utang. they would stiff close friends off their hard earned money, what scammers, tapos makikita mo sa may parade of nations sila ng mga toyboy na alaga
ReplyDeleteOh well what is new. The fashion industry is filled with PA-SOCIALITE PEEPS. They wear borrowed designer clothes... They carry 3rd and 4th hand bags (gives), they travel in style but on a tight tight budget....they eat in pricey restos and yet no cash in their bank accounts. People who carry Birkins are so feeling rich when in fact the Birkin is a business bag in Europe. Women carry this around for their business meeting folders and files. Unlike here in Manila people carry around the Birkin just to show off. Better buy a house of your own and a car of your own first before investing on a hulugan Birkin. The Philippine fashion magazines are also filled with the same losers, pa-sosyal people and rubbermaid peeps. Oh well they can go on living in their own world of FAKE BELIEVE.
ReplyDelete:-(
ReplyDeleteit's the designer who accused the other designer of copying the punit punit design! i knew it!

But that designer is not even famous nor senior. I had to google her.
Is he a fashion designer?
dear anonymous, you got it wrong. I relayed this blind item to a close friend of this freeloading designer, without telling her who this is, her immediate reaction is kapal ni ___.
ReplyDeleteIt's a him, and he is famous. And if you haven't heard about him, you're so out of touch. :)
Nag kakagulo pa kayo...it`s the designer who DID copy the punit punit dress at wala nang iba...matagal na nyang gawain yan. He goes out to dinner with his friends, with the usapan that its dutch, then conveniently needs to go to the men`s room right before the bill arrives at the table. Lalabas nalang pag bayad na lahat and some poor soul already paid for his share...
ReplyDeletesikat na sikat sya as in! now cuz of a collab w/ a popular clothing brand... anyway, as a designer wala rin akong bilib sa kanya. kopya lang talaga ng kopya. he just markets himself well. and i can't even make myself forget one of his collections that i saw.. so horrible! puro tacky, shiny cheap-looking fabrics na parang binalot lang sa models.. yuck!
ReplyDeletemore significant clues plssss
ReplyDeleteR ba ang first name nya?
ReplyDeleteIs he a blogger too? I saw him at an event... medyo feeling!

This is funny FP! I love your blog! :) Wow, i think i know this designer. I was wondering though, why his bridal gowns have fallen busts...hihi.
ReplyDeleteAbout the fashion industry, hindi naman lahat pa-socialite..meron namang iba who dont mind getting soiled at divisoria, or getting varicose from standing all day at the cutting table. :)
kung japan...may konek ba family nya sa mga Japon before? is he Designer R? Who allegedly copied a design from a previous designer? kasi I also heard a similar story na this designer lagi daw may exuse kapag bayaran na sa dinner...
ReplyDeleteOmg the expat is one of the bosses of my department at work!! Yes they are still friends. My question is...who squealed? Was is the expat?
ReplyDeleteAddtl clue, both feel that it is impt to be part of the elite social circles so they make friends with celebs and rich people.
